A popular tradition during Family Weekend – the Centre choral and instrumental ensembles will perform under the direction of the music faculty. You won’t want to miss hearing our talented students as they perform a variety of challenging and entertaining musical pieces. No charge.

5:00 p.m. stUDeNt perFOrmANCes. An Evening of Ives. Directed by Hannah Johnson (’20), Rachel Woellner (’20), and Olivia Wilkinson (’21). Do you ever wonder what monkeys, May flies, and miniature golf have in common? Do you crave stories about love, language, and Leon Trotsky? Or most importantly, do you like to laugh? Then you should join us for a wild and weird evening of six short comedies by playwright David Ives!

FRIDAY | SEptEmbER 279:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.stepHeN rOLFe pOWeLL exHIbIt (’74) A retrOspeCtIVe This exhibit will showcase artwork spanning the long career of beloved Centre professor and renowned glassmaker Stephen Rolfe Powell (1951-2019).    Featuring work made during his time as a student at Centre College and as a masters student at Louisiana State University as well as the glasswork he became known for, this exhibit will highlight little known early works as well as more familiar forms. 

9:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. CeNtre bOOkstOre. No trip to Centre is complete without a visit to our bookstore, located downtown in the former Hub building – at the corner of Main and Third Streets. Enjoy coffee and snacks in the Hub Café which is located right next door.

10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.WILDerNess trAIL DIstILLery. 4095 Lebanon Road, Danville, KY 40422. Take a tour of the Wilderness Trail Distillery and learn about the science behind spirit making through the use of local grains and signature sweet mash fermentation processes. Tours begin in the visitors center and start on the hour with the last tour being at 4:00 p.m. and are only $10 + tax per person (pay at the distillery). Note: Closed for lunch 12:00 – 1:00pm.

10:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.mCDOWeLL HOUse mUseUm. 125 S. Second Street, across from Constitution Square State Park. Come visit the former home and office of Dr. Ephraim McDowell. Here on Christmas morning 1809, Dr. McDowell performed surgery on Jane Todd Crawford for the removal of an ovarian tumor. This was the first successful removal of an ovarian tumor in the world. The museum is furnished and features a wonderful collection of antiques, including early medical equipment.  Centre Families receive 50% off Adult Admission. Note: Closed for lunch 12:00 – 1:00pm.

11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.Art CeNter OF tHe bLUeGrAss. 401 W. Main (corner of 4th and Main in the old Federal building). All Centre Families are welcome to explore the Arts Center featuring artists from across the country.  Enjoy learning about the history of the Federal Building through our new Building Tour and browse for something special in the Gift Gallery.  No Charge. 

11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.GreAt AmerICAN DOLLHOUse mUseUm. Free admission. Located at 344 Swope Drive (just behind campus off of Lexington Avenue). The museum is offering free admission for Centre Families. The Great American Dollhouse Museum is a unique educational facility that exhibits American history in miniature. The 6,000 square foot museum contains over 200 dollhouses and thousands of related miniatures, presented in remarkable detail. The Kentucky Tourism Cabinet honored The Great American Dollhouse Museum by designating it one of Kentucky’s 50 “Only Ones,” meaning that it is an attraction which is globally unique. The gift shop features a large selection of miniatures. (Several Centre faculty, staff, and Centre spouses are the creators of the museum).

In celebration of The Beatles’ 50th Anniversary of the White Album, Flower Power Concerts, Inc presents Todd Rundgren, Christopher Cross, Micky Dolenz (The Monkees), Jason Scheff (Chicago), and Joey Molland (Badfinger) performing their greatest hits along with songs from The Beatles’ White Album.

GeNerAL INFOrmAtION No guest parking passes are required for Family Weekend. Parents may park in all student and faculty/staff lots. (Additional parking is also available in the Danville city parking garage, located on the corner of Walnut and Third Streets.) Also, please get a revised Family Weekend schedule when you check in at the Registration table because some events may be added for the weekend. We encourage casual, comfortable dress for the weekend!

Old Carnegie Conference Room.  Join us for a presentation by Joy Asher, Director of the Center for Career & Professional Development, for advice to Centre parents about students’ Senior year.  Learn practical tips to help your student prepare for the job search, explore graduate schools, refine their resume and prepare for interviews, and get to know resources available to them through the CCPD.  A crash course in things Seniors need to do to successfully launch into life after Centre!   

10:15 - 11:00 a.m.PREPARE YOUR FIRST-YEAR FOR SUCCESS! Old Carnegie, Conference Room.  Join Kirk Knott, Associate Director of the Center for Career & Professional Development, for information and advice on what your first-year student can be doing right now to put themselves on a path to career success.

BON JOUR, 你好 , BUENOS DIAS!Campus Center, Room 201. Led by the director of study abroad, Dr. Lori Hartman,  this panel discussion will also include several students who have studied abroad.
