2019 Curator in Residence Program Outline Aim: To provide an early career curator or curatorial collective with the time, space and support to explore and develop their practice over a 12 month period as Curator in Residence at Carclew. The Residency The 2019 Curator in Residence will curate and install 6+ exhibitions over the year. Primarily utilising the Carclew Foyer Gallery space, and with a focus on the display of young South Australian early career artists, this is a practical opportunity to develop experience and networks for an early-career curator. The 2019 Curator in Residence will be supported by Carclew staff in the planning, marketing and installation of the negotiated series of exhibitions, as well as receiving structured mentorship to develop their professional capacities more broadly. Expectations The 2019 Curator in Residence will:

Be aged between 18 and 26 on January 1, 2019.

Be a current resident of South Australia.

Enter a formal contract agreement with Carclew for the period of the residency.

Attain at their own cost, a Working With Children Clearance.

Negotiate with artists and Carclew staff to curate 6+ exhibitions in the Carclew Foyer Gallery throughout 2019, with priority placed on highlighting South Australia’s young and emerging visual artists. (See Proposed 2019 Exhibition Schedule)

Curate an exhibition or installation in the Carclew Ballroom Gallery as part of South Australian Living Artists Festival (SALA) in August 2019, featuring the work of Carclew’s 2019 Artists in Residence.

Meet regularly with Carclew staff, and provide written and verbal updates and feedback regarding the progress of their residency.

Contribute content to Carclew’s website and social media presence.

Participate in curatorial presentations during Carclew functions, subject to availability and with reasonable notice.

Benefits Carclew can negotiate a range of benefits including:

Free access to exhibition spaces: Foyer and Ballroom Galleries (see floorplans included for further detail).

Free access to GigCity wireless internet, meeting rooms and office space (via Carclew’s booking system).

Promotion, networking and mentorship support directly from Carclew’s Arts Programs, Funding and Marketing teams.

Opportunity to take part in any and all staff training/development for Carclew employees.

The 2018 Curator in Residence Program entered into a successful partnership with the City of Adelaide through their Emerging Curators Program. As such, we anticipate Carclew will be able to offer the 2019 Curator/s the opportunity as part of their residency, providing greater exposure, structured professional mentoring and experience.

The term of residence will begin in January, 2019 as negotiated with Carclew staff.
