FILM FAM FEST will become the location for the Cine Sol Festival featuring filmmaking workshops and industry panels. Festival attendees can expect to view films and documentaries from around the world with a unique perspective from award-winning filmmakers. FEATURED ARTISTS FAM FEST will showcase state and national painters, sculptors jewelry makers and multimedia artist booths with art for sale. LIVE MUSIC Enjoy music from an eclectic array of local and Texas bands including local Island favorites located in the Entertainment District. FOOD & DRINK South Padre Island restaurants and food trucks will provide food and beverages for the event. ARTIST IN RESIDENCE 2018 FAM FEST REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL Applications for the 2018 FAM FEST ARTIST IN RESIDENCE will be accepted May 31, 2018 through midnight CST, July 31, 2018. The Artist in Residence Program is available to all visual and mixed media artists in any medium. Applicants may be emerging or established artists on a regional, national or international level. FAM FEST organizers will provide an honorarium up to $1,000.00 USD.** In exchange, the artist will create a site-specific sculpture or project or exhibition, with at least one mutually agreed upon work of art left to the Festival’s permanant collection. There is also some form of public engagement required such as a lecture, workshop, demonstration or participation in FAM FEST festivities and special events. The artist selected is encouraged to use this residency to further investigate, experiment, and explore avenues in their work. This program enhances the visitor experience through interaction with art and artists. FAM FEST organizers will provide comfortable housing from November 9 -19, 2018. The selected artist will be given access to the Festival’s sponsored art studio and some limited support by FAM FEST staff, if required. Material support, transportation and meals is not available. **This honorarium is to help offset travel expenses for the artist visiting from afar. The recipient of the FAM FEST Artist in Residence can expect to receive a minimum of $1000 honorarium. Regional artists include those currently living in the Rio Grande Valley. Duration: 1 week. Awarded artists will work the week leading to FAM FEST weekend (November 9 - 19, 2018) Cost: There are no residency or application fees, but the artist is responsible for all travel and other living expenses while in residence.
