The Service Excellence Council (SEC) took part in a post audit teleconference with Michael Bayer on July 16th to review what Custom Learning Systems has planned for CMH in Year III. As you recall, Year I focused on the patient and what we can do to help meet their expectations. Year II continued with the patient experience as well as how do we as individuals and an organization hold ourselves account- able. CMH TEAM BRAGGING VIDEO CMH has never submitted a video to annual conference for the Team Bragging Video Awards. We would really like to do so this year. The video would showcase our hospital and in- corporate the conference theme. The videos have certain elements chosen by CLS which need to appear in the video. The hospital creates its own sto- ryline around that theme and chooses its own music. This year’s elements are – PERSON: Implementation Specialist; SYMBOL: Seashell; WORD: Culture; BONUS ITEM: Waves. The videos are shown during the opening night of conference and attendees vote on their favorite. Winners are announced at a conference awards ceremony. Anyone who would like to help out with what can be a fun project should come to the Board Room on Tues- day, July 31st, at 2 PM. We will view some of last year’s videos to get an idea of past submissions and begin brainstorming ideas for our own video concept. Once we have our plan in place, we hope to work with the school videography class to shoot the on-site video and include as many CMH staff as possible in it. ALL-STAFF TRANSFORMATION MINI EDUCATION SERIES On Thursday, August 9th, Michael Bayer will be conducting several 20-30 minute mini sessions for staff. This is something new CLS is trying as they have received feedback from a lot of sites regarding the lag between when the Implementation Specialist delivers the DO IT training and when they are back to start the next year’s training. Like CMH, a lot of other facilities note momentum and enthusiasm seem to plummet during this time and CLS hopes these mini sessions via Skype/ ZOOM will alleviate some of that. Four to six sessions will run throughout the day in the Board Room. Staff only need to attend one session. Times will be announced as soon as they are finalized. CMH is wrapping up Year II of our Service Excellence Initiative and gearing up for Year III. The Service Excellence Council (SEC) took part in a post audit teleconference with Michael Bayer on July 16th to review what Custom Learning Systems has planned for CMH in Year III. As you recall, Year I focused on the patient and what we can do to help meet their expectations. to annual conference for the Team Bragging Video Awards. We would really like to do so this year. The video would showcase our hospital and in-corporate the conference theme. This year’s elements are – PERSON: Implementation Specialist; SYMBOL: Seashell; WORD: Culture; BONUS ITEM: Waves. than September 15th to allow time for SEC approval and online

submission to CLS. The packet has a list of eligible nominees for each category. Please note, for all indi-vidual award categories, the employee must still be employed with CMH at the time of submission. We have had some ambassadors, SEAs, and managers leave our facility since the start of Year II and that is why you don’t see their names as eligible nominees. They can be included with team nominations, just not with individual nominations. If anyone has any questions about how to complete a nomination form or the process in general, please contact Pam Harrison. Last year we had four individuals make the award finals and one brought home the award. Let’s see if we can get even more to the finals this year!!

Scott Keller, director of Information Technology, is pictured in the Marysville Advocate’s special County Fair section, published July 12, 2018.

Keller is featured in an article about his band, Rewind, headlining entertainment at the county fair for Saturday night, July 21. Keller sings lead vocals and plays rhythm guitar in the band.

SERVICE EXCELLENCECONTINUED FROM PG. 1

When a big event comes to Marshall County, CMH staff members step up in a big way. That’s what they did on a hot day in 2015 when the Topeka Symphony Orchestra played an outdoor concert at Alcove Spring Historic Park. And that’s what will happen again on Sept. 22, 2018, as Marshall County welcomes the rock band “KANSAS” to perform at the natural amphitheater.

Mary Lyhane, RN, is part of the trauma team from CMH who will be on-site the day of the concert. CMH team mem-bers have been planning with county emergency management, EMS person-nel, and concert planners to ensure the event is safe for all with proper proce-dures and equipment in place.

Lyhane said the team from CMH is comprised of 8-9 members of the trau-ma team staff and Dr. John Ryan. They will offer triage for injuries, simple first aid, and rehydration in a first aid tent at the

event, and an air conditioned trailer.“We feel it’s important to be available

for any medical situations that may arise,” Lyhane said, “like heat exhaus-tion, cardiac arrest, elements of nature, and falls, for example.”

Lyhane and those participating are do-nating their time to plan this community service, as well as staffing the tent at the concert. “Early treatment by medical professionals results in lives saved,” she said.

CMH staff will be volunteering in other ways. Monica Iles, pharmacy, will be checking IDs at a beer tent. Ashley Kracht, marketing, is coordinating the donor tent. Dr. Duensing and his wife, Zita, are event coordinators.

Volunteers are still needed, and get to hear the concert free of charge. Those interested in volunteering or purchasing concert tickets can visit the event web-site, https://mcactickets.com/.
