Dear Students, Staff, Parents, and Community Members,
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you how excited I am to begin working with each of
you for the betterment of our district. It is evident that Anaconda is a town rich in tradition, many
of which carry through into our school district. It is my hope that we can build a collaborative
relationship between families, the school district, and the community in such a way that we are
able to prepare our students for a globally competitive work force. I know we have a dedicated
school board, a strong staff, and the best students in the state. It is time that we work together and
focus our energies on student achievement.
In order to obtain this goal, the district will be holding a series of meetings throughout the year
in order to gather input from its stakeholders. These meetings will be in the form of budgetary
meetings, question and answer sessions, board meetings, and facility meetings. Please check
the school website as it will be changing soon and will have important dates as to when these
meetings are throughout the school year. It is my sincerest hope that we can gather as much
input as possible in order to make the most informed decisions for our children and students. As
Benjamin Franklin put it “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”
I am looking forward to meeting each and every one of you. Please do not hesitate to come
and say hello whenever you might have the time. My door is always open. Collaboration,
communication, and a focus on what is best for our students are all going to amount to a great
school year
Yours in Education,
Justin Barnes

John MuirExpedition Yellowstone provides an opportunity for Fred Moodry 6th Grade students the opportunity to experience
learningoutoftheusualclassroomroutine.Takingonestepatatimeoutoftheircomfortzone, theyrealizetheyhavetheability to make a dramatic change in their ideals as a student. Working as a team they build lifelong skills to succeed by
cooperation and respecting different perspectives, individuals and the environment.
Collecting and comparingdata in the field encourages exploration andquestioning of surroundings that can’t beequalled in the four walls of a classroom.
The educators at Expedition Yellowstone provide many platforms for students to experience how they have a direct
affect on their environment. Geology, Biology, Botany and Chemistry are all integrated in every aspect of student interactions.
Students become the scientist not only in classrooms, they also are provided the opportunity to test hot spring waters which few
professionals ever get to experience in their lifetime.
This three day trip has changed the lives of many of our students. They arrive
being dependent on adults to meet their basic needs in an unknown environment.
Through encouragement and modeling they leave knowing how to cook, clean up
after themselves, and to help one another. Limitations in their own mind are now met
with the possibility of accomplishment no matter who they are, what socioeconomic
background they come from, or what their current abilities may be. They came and
they conquered any self doubts that they have a direct effect on their environment.
They leave with a better understanding of why educating oneself about environments
can help them be better stewards of our beautiful Earth.

Graduation Matters Anaconda began in 2011 with the statewidemovement toward increasing graduation rates and decreasing dropout
rates. Since that time, GMA has worked to unify our efforts as a district
to help our students graduate from high school successfully ready to
conquer life beyond high school. Our three tiered program focuses on
College and Career Awareness in the elementary grades, College and
Career Exploration at the junior high level, and College and Career
Readiness at the high school. Elementary students have fun expressing
their love of careers through Career Days and guest speakers in their
classrooms. Teachers are encouraged to display their favorite colleges
intheirclassroomstosparkconversationswiththeirstudentsaboutpost-secondary education. Junior high students explore careers through brown
bag lunchesofferedweeklybasedon the16nationalCareerClusters.Students are also paired up with an advisor to help them through their
junior high years. At the high school, students are exposed to various
careersandpost-secondaryoptionsthroughtheannualCareerFairandconversations with all teachers about careers in their specific fields.
High school students follow a 4-year track toward graduation whichallows students a path of classes to follow that prepares them for their
chosen path beyond high school. Graduation Matters Anaconda has given
students in our schools the opportunity to dream big and find support to
fulfill those dreams.
