September 2019 Dearest Partners in Sculpting Success, We are writing to share our 2018-2019 Success and express our sincere graditude for all your support, guidance and invaluable assistance in ensuring our Upward Bound Participants and their families are paving a strong and reliable path to their academic and personal success. We know that we are but a small part of all that emcompasses the students’ experience on their journey to their future. Thank you for welcoming us at your campus and motivating us to work side by side with you to increase our students opportunities! The following pages will provide details about Upward Bound population, activities & attendance trends, student accomplishments and special highlights. We have also included our proposed calendar, comments from our Program Families and our participant listings. We hope that you enjoy learning about our program outcomes and invite you to provide us your most candid recommendations for improvements. Enrichment Excursions

9th 10th 11th 12th Leadership Retreat – NEWKS
This retreat is designed to introduce the freshman class to
senior participants & program staff while participating in a
series of low/high rope activities at Newks Tennis Ranch.
Students will develop/enhance the following skills; critical
thinking, independence, time management, communication,
self-efficacy, and team building as well as take leadership
roles in their groups. Additionally, students will have the
opportunity to visit Texas State University in San Marcos.

Junior Excursion-
Houston/Huntsville Texas
This excursion is designed to expose participants to three
distinct Universities – Sam Houston State University, University of
Houston and Rice University. This exposure will allow students
to compare and contrast the different type of universities as
well and determine if these campuses meet their academic
goals/plans. We would also like to implement a patience,
persistence and perseverance activity on at the Galleria Ice
Rink.

Sophomore Excursion-
Waco/Austin/Corpus Christi Texas
This excursion is designed to expose participants to Baylor
University, UT Austin and Texas A & M University Corpus Christi.
This exposure will allow students to compare and contrast the
different type of universities as well and determine if these
campuses meet their academic goals/plan. We would also
like to implement a science activity along with conquering
your fears at IFly.

Special Highlights:
15 Students from Rivera High School participated in a STEM internship as a way to
prepare students for success in higher education. This STEM Internship gave the
students an oppportunity to develop their skills in Mobile App and Forensic Cyber
Security. Students attened the internship for a total of 3 months and mastered these
courses.
