The INTERNATIONAL MUSIC CAMP, held each summer at the International Peace Garden, is recognized as one of the leading Summer Schools of Fine Arts in North America. This unique international cultural center includes instruction, performances, and exhibitions in all areas of the fine arts for both students and adults. A staff of 150 internationally noted artist-teachers, guest conductors, and specialists provide the instruction and supervision of the camp programs. Over 2,000 students from various parts of North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East take part in the annual summer fine arts programs.

The 2017 sponsors for the Festival of the Arts Series are: Sunrise Credit Union-Boissevain, Greater Rugby Area Convention

and Visitors Bureau, Rolla Chamber of Commerce, Dunseith Community Betterment, First National Bank & Trust of Bottineau, Starion Financial of Dunseith and Dacotah Bank of Rolla.

The International Music Camp presents the IMC JAZZ FACULTY BIG BAND. This 20-piece big band is comprised of some of the finest artist-teachers and clinicians in North

America. The band will entertain you with an evening of easy listening from the big band era through the modern jazz of today.

The FINALE SHOWCASE CONCERTS—featuring World Percussion, Community Bands, Choir, Orchestras, Barbershop Choirs, Harp, Brass Band, and Handbells—will close out the 62nd season of the International Music Camp. You won’t want to skip this evening of fun and entertainment with our adult musicians! Concerts begin at 4:30 and 7:00 p.m. in the Burdick Center for the Performing Arts.

The INTERNATIONAL BRASS QUINTET, IMC’s in-residence quintet will perform a variety of repertoire from Baroque through Jazz. The quintet members carry a busy teaching schedule at the camp, as well as presenting concerts in the region. The group is made up of Scott Guidry, Bemidji State University and Mark Nelson, South Dakota Symphony, trumpets; Arlene Shiplett, Saskatoon Symphony, french horn; Dr. Joel Pugh, University of North Dakota, trombone; and Jacob Grewe, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, tuba.

HANNAH CHRISTIANSON is an award-winning, Boston-based indie singer-songwriter who holds her own among artists like Regina Spektor and Ingrid Michaelson. She’s been a finalist in several international songwriting festivals including the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and Great American Song Contest, and has opened for a selection of well-respected artists including Couer De Pirate, Jen Chapin, and Raining Jane. She recently released her latest album, “Grow the World You’re Dreaming Of,” to a sold-out show at The Burren Backroom in Somerville, MA. As a traveling soul on a journey of self-discovery through music, her writing encompasses the human condition with honesty, charisma, and hope. With extensive studies in music therapy, songwriting, and as a certified yoga teacher, Hannah blends her experience and knowledge with her intuitive musicianship and creativity to bring worlds of emotion and color, through sound, to life. She weaves her own personal journey of self-healing into the music she creates, as she also tunes into the environment around her and what others might be feeling, bridging it all together into the expressions she shares.

Arizona native TAYLOR MORRIS enjoys blurring the line between violin and fiddle. After studying classical violin at Arizona State University with Dr. Katie McLin, he spent four years touring the world as one of five fiddlers with Barrage, a world-music violin troupe based out of Canada. His travels, both with Barrage and personally, have led to performances in 48 states and 13 countries with musicians from a multitude of backgrounds. Strongly believing we can learn more about the world through collaboration with others, Taylor actively pursues musical projects in different genres. Currently, he is part of Tricia & Taylor, a genre-bending violin/fiddle duo with concert violinist Tricia Park, and a member of The Sound Accord, a string sextet that creates vibrant arrangements of folk music. Off of the stage, Taylor obtained a master’s in education from Harvard University and is a passionate advocate for arts education. Since 2000, Taylor’s teaching has taken him into classrooms around the country, with activities ranging from creating music-inspired art with kindergartners to leading workshops. As a kid, Taylor loved going to summer camps; as an adult, Taylor still loves going to summer camps. In addition to having taught at camps in Arizona, Florida, Illinois, New Hampshire, North Dakota, and South Carolina, he also directs StringPlay, his own camp for young musicians in the Phoenix area. Through his teaching, Taylor is ultimately on a serious mission to keep music as fun as possible, working with students and educators to explore the incredible variety of ways to make music with string instruments.

The 2017 FRIDAY NIGHT SPECTACULAR will feature Michael Audette. The concert is $10 USD or free to Old Time Fiddle Workshop participants. Michael Audette, 23, got his first fiddle at the age of 4 years old and has since gone on to develop his skills and become one of Manitoba’s most popular young ”Métis fiddlers.” Michael is a 3 time Manitoba fiddle champion and has performed at various events across Canada in an effort to promote old time fiddle music. The love of the fiddle was passed down to him from his grandfather Alex Carriere. Michael has added his passion for Country music to his fiddling which has taken his talents as far as Shanghai, China.

A tribute to the funky-swingin’ jazz music of the 1960’s, THE KEITH PRICE QUARTET features Greg Gatien on Saxophone, Keith Price on Guitar, John Baron on Bass, and Eric Platz on Drums. Beginning on his grandfather’s old guitar, Keith Price was first influenced by pop

music, punk rock, and heavy metal before discovering jazz at age fifteen. Price began his formal studies at The Conservatory of Amsterdam and upon returning to Winnipeg, turned down a scholarship from The New School in New York City and instead, opted to study with local jazz guitar guru Larry Roy as part of Steve Kirby’s newly established jazz program at The University of Manitoba. Price is now enjoying an inspiring period of musical growth while studying at Brandon University with internationally recognized pianist and composer Michael Cain.
