1TAFE SA | 2017 INTERNATIONAL COURSE GUIDE
A PATHWAY TO UNIVERSITYTAFE SA offers more than 50 University Pathway programs which provide you with guaranteed entry to a degree at a South Australian university. On completion of your TAFE SA qualification, generous credit arrangements mean that you can start your degree in the second or third year, so you will finish your degree sooner. With a University Pathway program you will gain a career‑competitive mix of practical, professional skills and theoretical knowledge.
Many of TAFE SA’s qualifications can be used to apply for university entry at universities in Australia. Qualifications at a certificate IV, diploma, advanced diploma and associate degree level can also be used as credit towards your university degree.
How does credit transfer work?
TAFE SA has formal credit transfer agreements with South Australian universities, which gives you automatic status or credit in some part of a course or program. This means you can complete your university qualification more quickly and cheaply.
A diploma from TAFE SA usually provides up to a year of credit towards university study. An advanced diploma usually counts for a year and a half, and an associate degree up to two years. There are no fees to apply for recognition through credit transfer.*
*Application fees may be charged by your chosen education provider.

Many of our courses include industry work placements as part of the course program. These work placements give you first‑hand experience of the workplace, allowing you to test your skills and make valuable industry contacts.
At TAFE SA, our lecturers are accessible and supportive, and our classes are mostly between 15 and 20 students. These small class sizes mean more personal assistance and attention, and a more rewarding studyexperience.
TAFE SA gives you choice and flexibility. You can choose from more than 100 courses, and follow pathways within our own areas of study, as well as to university. It is your practical pathway to the career you want.

The flat terrain makes walking and cycling easy, and you can drive if you have an international driver’s licence. A public transport system of buses, trains and trams covers the city and suburbs – there is even a free ‘city loop’ bus and tram around the city centre. ACCOMMODATION TYPESStudent housing
Student housing in Adelaide includes individual studio apartments, shared apartments, or dormitory accommodation. Most student housing is in the city centre, or near TAFE SA campuses, which reduces transport costs. One advantage of student accommodation is that it often includes internet access, utilities, furnished apartments, and sometimes other services such as meals and laundry.
One example of affordable student housing is Regency International House at TAFE SA’s Regency Campus. The rental fee includes meals, utilities, weekly cleaning, and access to shared recreation facilities. See tafesa.edu.au/international/int‑support‑services/int‑accommodation for more information.
Homestay
Homestay is living with an Australian host family. It is a great way to experience Australian life and practice your English in a welcoming environment. As a homestay student, you will have a bedroom with linen and a place to study, and you will share a bathroom, kitchen and other facilities with your host family. Most homestay hosts provide meals, or you may need to provide and prepare your own food.
Your homestay hosts may be a family with children, a couple, or a single person. Many Australian homes have pets, including dogs. You will be part of the household, so you will have to look after your own needs, such as keeping your room tidy and doing your laundry.
Visit homestaynetwork.org, studentliving.com.au or unilodge.com.au/Adelaide for more information.
Private rental
You can rent a house or apartment anywhere you like. On top of your weekly rent you will need to pay for utilities such as electricity, gas, water and telephone. You may need to sign a lease agreement with your landlord and pay a refundable bond in advance. Go to cbs.sa.gov.au/renting‑and‑letting/ for more information about your legal rights and obligations as a tenant.
Students often share a house, having a bedroom each, sharing the rest of the house and splitting expenses. If you rent a room in a share house, you might pay more if the room is furnished, or if utilities are included in your weekly rent. Sharing can be a cheap option, but it is important to clearly agree on how chores and bills will be divided.
You can search realestate.com.au or domain.com.au to find properties for rent.
ACCOMMODATIONWhere to live is an important decision when you move to a new city. For most people, rental and transport costs are important, along with finding somewhere close to your campus, workplace and other facilities. Most TAFE SA international students choose between purpose-built student housing, homestay and private rental.
