Prayer Pointers Theme Verse for 2017: “In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen” (Matthew 6:9-13 NKJV). The focal point of the Prayer Ministry is the Friday Prayer Meeting – the designated corporate prayer meeting of BKC. The purpose of the prayer ministry in 2017 is to unite the body of Christ at BKC to pray for God’s kingdom to come and His will be done in BKC. The crux is to come together in prayer as the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of truth (I Timothy 3:15). Our Lord Jesus said "It is written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer,' (Matthew 21:13a). Let us come together and offer ourselves and our prayers as incense at the appointed time (7.45 pm to 9.1.5pm, Friday) and as a sacrifice to the Lord (Psalm 141:2). Conduct of the Friday Prayer Meetings 1. First Friday Meeting: This meeting will focus on praying for Church

Council, leadership, church missionaries, church staff, church-wide issues such as church redevelopment, BBC and church-supported missions (eg Kalagan Ministry and Kabankalan / Hinigaran / ASCO, Siliguri). We seek commitment by Council Members as leaders to give themselves continually to prayer and the ministry of the word, and set apart Friday nights to be found in God’s house of prayer. “but we (the Twelve) will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word" (Acts 6:4).

2. Corporate Prayer Day / Concert of Prayer: The focus of the concert of prayer is corporate worship, praise, thanksgiving and intercession led by the elders. Corporate Prayer Day for the first half of 2017 is 6 January 2017. There is a call to a whole day of synchronized prayer (based on a guide)

10

followed by corporate prayer, where church members meet together in church to pray.

3. Second Friday Meeting: The second Friday (and third Friday) of the month

is to set aside to pray for the various ministries in BKC. We request Ministry leaders to send us prayer points for their ministries one month before their scheduled time slot at the Friday Prayer Meeting. These prayer pointers will be incorporated in the Monthly Prayer Guide the following month. Ministry Leaders are also to encourage their members to set aside time to attend the scheduled Friday prayer meeting.

4. Third, Fourth and Fifth Friday Meetings: The aim is to provide prayer

support and pastoral care for Members (Care Groups). This meeting will be chaired and attended by Care Groups. Care Group Leaders are to encourage their care group members to commit to attend their scheduled Friday Prayer meeting.

Prayer Meeting Format 5. The Friday Prayer Meeting will start at 7.45 and end at 9.15pm. The format

is as follows:

7.45 pm Worship 8.00 pm Devotion/ Exhortation to prayer from the Word 8.15 pm Sharing of Prayer Needs, testimonies of thanksgiving, etc. 8.30 pm Break into small groups to pray/intercede 9.15 pm Close of Prayer Meeting

6. Changes to schedule: If a Care Group / Ministry wishes to change their

allotted slot, please contact the Church office (Susan Chan) to swop or make arrangements. This is especially so if the changes are made after the prayer programme has been circulated in church. The weekly Sunday bulletins can be updated and revised accordingly.

7. Devotions or exhortation to prayer from the Word: The purpose of the devotions is to build faith in God to Whom we offer our worship, present petitions and supplications. In 2017, we will focus on the Name of God. Those who know His will put their trust in Him (Psalm 9:10a). At the same

11

time, we will pray according to the model taught by our Lord Jesus in Matt 6:9-13. There will be a short sharing on corporate prayer on each first Friday prayer meeting of the month. As the primary aim of the Friday Prayer Meeting is corporate intercession, those sharing devotions are kindly requested to keep their devotions to 10 to 15 minutes. We would also encourage the sharing of personal testimonies.

8. Monthly Prayer Guide: The Monthly prayer guide provides current prayer

points for personal intercession for the church as well as corporate intercession at the Friday Prayer Meeting. Council members and Ministry Leaders are requested to provide timely updates and prayer points for publication in the Monthly Prayer Guide, a month before their appointed time at the Friday Prayer Meetings.
