OPENING DAY UNDER KRIKORIANFlorida State is 16-5-1 all-time on opening day, including a mark of 10-1-1 when opening the season at home. The Noles are 11-1-0 on opening day under head coach Mark Krikorian, including a mark of 6-0-0 at the Seminole Soccer Complex. FSU has won nine straight season openers, outscoring the opposition 23-3.

MILLER: NCAA ALL-TIME GREATCassie Miller posted an impressive 2016 campaign as the FSU goalkeeper, ending the season ranked in the top 20 in the nation in four different categories - goals against average (0.398 - fourth), shutouts (13 - fifth), save percentage (0.866 - 16th) and minutes played (2032:51 - 20th).

It was just one part of an amazing career for Miller as she set the NCAA record for shutouts with 19 in 2014 and finished that season with a 0.34 goals against average.

The redshirt junior now has 40 career shutouts, which ranks in a tie for 12th in NCAA history. Her career goals against average of 0.45 would rank sixth all-time, but trails only Katelyn Rowland of UCLA (0.40) among goalkeepers that have over 6,000 minutes played.

She enters the 2017 season as the NCAA’s active career leader in shutouts and goals against average.

ACC PRESEASON POLLFlorida State was chosen as the favorite to win the ACC in 2017, earning 186 points and eight of the 14 first place votes from the league’s coaches prior to the season. The Seminoles secured the ACC Tournament championship in 2016, earning FSU’s fourth consecutive league title and fifth overall.

The Noles also placed a league-high four student-athletes on the 2017 Preseason All-ACC Team - redshirt senior Cassie Miller, juniors Natalia Kuikka and Megan Connolly, along with sophomore Deyna Castellanos.

MAC HERMANN TROPHYA trio of Seminole student-athletes earned a spot on the preseason watch list for the 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy. Redshirt senior Cassie Miller, junior Natalia Kuikka and sophomore Deyna Castellanos were among the 30 players recognized.

Florida State led the nation with three honorees and was one of just four schools – along with Penn State, South Carolina and Stanford – to have multiple players on the list.

It is the 14th straight season that the Seminoles have had a student-athlete named to the preseason Watch List and FSU has had at least two players selected 10 times in the last 12 seasons.

In 2007, Mami Yamaguchi won the MAC Hermann Trophy, the first and only player in school history to win the award. Yamaguchi led the country in points that season with 66, while finishing second in goals (24) and assists (18).

TDS PRESEASON BEST XITopDrawerSoccer released its 2017 Preseason Best XI teams, and Florida State had four members among the four different teams.

Redshirt senior Cassie Miller, junior Megan Connolly and sophomore Deyna Castellanos each received a spot on the Bext XI Second Team, while newcomer Gloriana Villalobos was named to the Best XI Freshman Team.

It is the second year in a row that Connolly has been chosen to the preseason Second Team, while Miller started 2016 on the Third Team.

DEFENDING ACC CHAMPSFlorida State open the 2017 season as the defending ACC champion for the fifth time in school history and the fourth year in a row. The Seminoles are the only school other than North Carolina to win back-to-back ACC titles.

The Noles earned their fifth conference title in 2016 and now own five of the nine ACC championships not earned by UNC.

FSU VERSUS THE ACCThe Seminoles closed out the 2016 regular season with an all-time ACC record of 106-67-22.

Florida State is 85-22-16 in league play under head coach Mark Krikorian as more than three-quarters of FSU’s all-time wins in the ACC have come with Krikorian at the helm. Under Krikorian, FSU is 52-5-5 against league opponents at home and 33-17-11 on the road.

FSU has finished no lower than second place (including ties) in the ACC 10 times (2005-10, 2012-15) over the last 12 years, claiming three regular season titles (2009, 2012 and 2014).

FSU VS. UNC GREENSBOROThe Seminoles are 1-1-0 all-time against the Spartans, most recently earning a 6-0 victory on the road in Greensboro, N.C. in 2015.

Florida State is 13-2 all-time against schools currently in the Southern Conference, with both losses coming on the road in 1997 - a 2-1 defeat at Furman and a 3-2 loss at UNC Greensboro.

FSU will also play SoCon member Samford on the road on August 24.

FSU VS. SOUTH ALABAMAThe Noles and Jaguars will play each other for the 10th time in series history and for the fifth season in a row.

Florida State had won the first eight games in the matchup, including three wins in NCAA Tournament play, before South Alabama earned a 1-0 upset in 2016.

The Seminoles are 13-2-1 against current Sun Belt members, with losses to South Alabama (2016) and Geaorgia Southern (1995) and a draw with Georgia State in 1998.

AUGUST SUCCESSThe Seminoles look to continue their early season success with four games in the month of August. FSU owns an all-time record of 40-7-1 and has won 33 of its last 35 matches played during the month of August. The Noles are 31-2-0 in August under head coach Mark Krikorian and have outscored their opponents 118-37 all-time in August with 26 shutouts.

RARE HOME LOSSESThe Noles currently hold a 33-match home unbeaten streak and were 8-0-1 at the Seminole Soccer Complex in 2016. It is so rare to lose at home that only four of the 27 players on the 2017 roster have ever lost a game at the Seminole Soccer Complex, a 2-1 defeat against Florida on September 5, 2014.

That is the only loss any active FSU player has surrendered at home as the next home loss was on Oct. 13, 2011. HOME SWEET HOMEFlorida State is 135-9-6 at home since 2005 when Mark Krikorian became head coach at Florida State.

The Noles are 67-1-3 in their last 71 matches played at home, dating back to 2011. FSU has 25 wins over ranked opponents over that time and the only loss during that span was a 2-1 defeat to Florida on September 5, 2014.

FSU has allowed just five goals at home over the last 2455:05 of game time – a goal in the 22’ against No. 3 Texas A&M on September 4, 2015, an own goal versus No. 7 Clemson on September 24, 2015, two goals vs. Boston College on Nov. 1, 2015 and a goal versus No. 2 Virginia on September 25, 2016.

ROAD SWEET ROADThe Seminoles are also impressive away from the friendly confines of the Seminole Soccer Complex, posting a true road record of 20-6-7 since 2013, as well as a neutral site mark of 10-3-2.

FSU has lost just five times in its last 26 road games - all one-goal matches - a 3-2 defeat at No. 14 UF on August 30, 2015, a 1-0 loss at No. 2 UVA on October 25, 2015, a 1-0 defeat at South Alabama on September 5, 2016, a 2-1 loss at Boston College on October 6, 2016 and a 1-0 defeat at No. 16 North Carolina on October 27, 2016.

FRESH FACESThe Seminoles welcome 11 newcomers to the squad in 2017, including 10 freshman and a sophomore transfer.

Five freshmen - Claire Griffiths (Wake Forest, N.C.), Angeline Daly (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.), Madisyn Pezzino (Grand Island, N.Y.), Emily Madril (Navarre, Fla.) and Gloriana Villalobos (San Jose, Costa Rica) all enrolled at Florida State for the Spring 2017 semester, joining the team in January and training with the Seminoles throughout the spring.

Five other freshmen arrived for the fall, with three Americans and two international players. Adrienne Richardson (Oakdale, Minn.), Bella Dorosy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Brooke Bollinger (Melbourne, Fla.) represent the new freshmen from the United States.
