He defeated Colorado Springs, 3-0, on July 29 with 7 shutout innings and allowed four hits and struck out eight. 35 SEASONS IN THE SILVER STATE - The 51s concluded their 35th Pacific Coast League season in the Silver State (1983-2017)…the Las Vegas 51s have the proud distinction of being the longest enduring franchise in the history of professional sports in the state of Nevada…Las Vegas Triple-A baseball was born on April 10, 1983 before a crowd of 10,622 at Cashman Field (Las Vegas defeated Salt Lake City, 11-8). LAS VEGAS 80-WIN SEASONS – The Las Vegas franchise has won 80 or more games in a season five times: 85 (2002, franchise best 85-59 record (.590); 83 (1983 inaugural season, 83-60 (.580); 81 (81-63, .563 in 2013); 81 (81-63, .563 in 2014); 80 (1986 PCL champions with an 80-62 mark (.563)…Las Vegas recorded back-to-back 80-win seasons for the first time in franchise history (2013 & 2014). NEW YORK METS NICKNAME: The “METS” Nickname: The name Mets was judged by club owner Mrs. Joan Payson as the one that best met five basic criteria: 1. It met public and press acceptance; 2. It was closely related to the team’s corporate name (Metropolitan Baseball Club, Inc.); 3. It was descriptive of the Metropolitan area; 4. It had a brevity that delighted copy readers everywhere; 5. Langer completed his 18th season behind the mike…he is a 10-time recipient of the Nevada Sportscaster of the Year award (2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015) presented by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association…also worked a total of 30 Montreal Expos games during the 2003 and 2004 seasons…in 2006, Langer was hired for additional major league duty by the Baltimore Orioles and broadcast 10 games on a fill-in basis during the course of the season…has also broadcast selected Los Angeles Dodgers Spring Training games in March of 2006 and in Arizona in March of 2008 and with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2009 and 2010 and Chicago White Sox in 2012-17...also broadcast the action for the 2016 Triple-A All-Star Game Radio Network from Charlotte, North Carolina…in 2016, Langer also completed his fifth season as the radio “play-by-play voice” for the UNLV Football team on the UNLV/IMG Sports Network. Blum Broadcast Booth” prior to the 2013 season to honor the 51s Special Assistant to the General Manager…“The Blummer” passed away on July 22, 2012 at the age of 91...also served as the play-by-play voice for Stars/51s baseball in selected seasons from 1985-2005 & 2008-10…his company, Robert J. Blum Productions, also produced Las Vegas Triple-A professional baseball games broadcast on radio and television for several seasons.

51s Manager Pedro Lopez: He was named the 23rd manager (December 5, 2016) in the history of the Las Vegas franchise (1983 - present, 34 seasons). Career Summary: Completed his first season as manager on the Triple-A level and his 10th season with the Mets organization (2008-17)…career minor league managerial record in 16 seasons is 865-826 (.512)…spent the previous five seasons as manager of Double-A Binghamton of the Eastern League (2012-16)…compiled a five-year regular season record of 377-329 (.534)…Lopez was inducted into the Binghamton Baseball Shrine on September 6, 2015 after becoming the all-time winningest manager in team history with then-320 (regular season and postseason) victories as skipper of the BMets (now the Rumble Ponies)…became the first active manager or player to be inducted into Binghamton’s Baseball Shrine…was named the 2013 Eastern League Manager of the Year after leading Binghamton to a franchise record 86-55 record (.610) and a trip to the postseason…then spent the final three weeks of September serving as coach for the Mets…in 2014, he guided Binghamton to an 83-59 record (.585) and the BMets captured the EL Championship with a three-game sweep of Richmond…guided Binghamton to three straight EL playoff appearances (2013-15) for the first time in franchise history. Professional Playing Career: He was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 21st round of the 1988 Major League Baseball Draft out of Arizona Western College in Yuma, Arizona…played in a total of 13 seasons in the minor leagues, six of those seasons in the Padres organization as a catcher and was a member of the Triple-A Las Vegas Stars in 1994…won a Texas League championship under manager and former Stars player Bruce Bochy with Double-A Wichita in 1992…then joined the Milwaukee organization as a minor league free agent in 1995, spending parts of two seasons at Triple-A before eventually ending his playing career with Houston (Triple-A New Orleans) in 2000…appeared in 909 career games and batted .247 (690-for-2,796) with 134 doubles, 16 triples, 49 home runs and 338 RBI. 51s Coaching Staff: Jack Voigt completed his 12th season overall in the Mets organization and his third season as the hitting instructor for Triple-A Las Vegas…named to the PCL coaching staff (on June 14) for the 2017 Triple-A All-Star Game…in 2016, Las Vegas boasted the TOP 3 hitters in the PCL for the second time in the 34-year franchise history (1983-2016): T.J. Rivera (.353, batting champion), Brandon Nimmo (.352), Gavin Cecchini (.325)…he served four seasons as the organization's outfield and baserunning coordinator (2011-14). Minor League Coaching Career: Spent four seasons as the Mets organization's outfield and baserunning coordinator (2011-14)…served as hitting coach for Triple-A Buffalo of the International League in 2010 and served in the same role for Single-A Brooklyn of the New York-Penn League in 2009…in 2004, he was a minor league roving baserunning and bunting coach in the Atlanta organization and served as baserunning and outfield coordinator for Baltimore in 2003…also managed Baltimore's Single-A Frederick affiliate of the Carolina League in 2002 and was the hitting coach for Frederick in 2001…began his coaching career in 2000 as a player/coach with Triple-A Oklahoma City of the Pacific Coast League…served as hitting coach for Magallanes of the Venezuelan Winter League for two seasons (2012-13) and the team captured the championship and advanced to the Caribbean World Series. Frank Viola completed his fourth season as the pitching coach at Triple-A Las Vegas and his seventh season overall with the Mets organization. In 2014, the 51s pitching staff established a franchise record with 1,172 strikeouts. Minor League Coaching Career: Spent two seasons as the pitching coach at Single-A Savannah of the South Atlantic League (2012-13)…in 2013, the Sand Gnats compiled an overall record of 77-61 (.558) and defeated Hagerstown (3-games-to-1) to capture the SAL Championship…began his coaching career in 2011 with the Mets as the pitching coach with Single-A Brooklyn of the New York-Penn League. Major League Playing Career: Enjoyed an outstanding 15-year Major League career with Minnesota (1982-89), New York Mets (1989-91), Boston (1992-94), Cincinnati (1995) and Toronto (1996)…the left-hander appeared in 421 career games and posted a 176-150 record with a 3.73 ERA…struck out 1,844 batters in 2,836.1 innings pitched…the three-time All-Star went 20-12 with a 2.67 ERA in 249.2 innings pitched for the Mets in 1990…was a member of the 1987 World Series Champion Minnesota Twins and the World Series MVP that same season (2-1, 3.72 ERA vs. St. Louis)…won the Cy Young Award in 1988 with a career-best 24-7 record and a 2.64 ERA in 255.1 innings pitched…also posted 18 wins in a season twice in 1984 (18-12) and 1985 (18-14)…was selected by Minnesota in the second round of the 1981 Major League Baseball Draft…attended St. John’s University…was inducted into the 2015 National College Baseball Hall of Fame, eight-man Class, on June 29.
