Lean EDI: Supporting the Business Dynamic at Lower Cost

John JAMES, EDI/IT Manager, AGC Glass Europe

Wilson MENEZES, Product Director, Sintel

The constant pressure for cost reduction in a fast moving environment is forcing automotive companies to rethink

their EDI competence. What other cost-effective actions can be taken to improve EDI efficiency?

AGC Glass Europe has adopted an innovative EDI model with Sintel's EDI Services, increasing responsiveness to

business requirements and reducing operational issues whilst improving the TCO.

This session will demonstrate how it is possible to:

Reduce EDI costs and improve the SLA at the same time

Improve relations between business areas and IT

Bring a new perspective to EDI governance

Dynamic Product Identification enables Build to Order in Asia

Helena ERIKSSON, E2E Business Process Developer, Volvo Group Trucks Operation

Lars CEDERHOLM, Senior Business Analyst, EDI & B2B, Volvo Group Trucks Operation

The highly flexible truck specification system at Volvo enables a customer to order a truck with a specification that has

never been previously built. Such a unique truck requires a preassembled complex module without a pre-defined

identity.

The Volvo Supply Chain solution to manage this flexibility was, however, not designed to meet the legal demands of

several countries in Asia. Helena Eriksson and Lars Cederholm will explain how EDI came to the rescue.

Odette2017: Transforming the Digital Supply Chain

Monday 15 May 16.30 – 17.30 Breakout: Packaging Management

Ballroom 2 Innovative Automotive Supply Chain Solutions in Turkey

Recai ISIKTAS, Logistics Manager, Ford Otosan

In order to compete in a cost and resource-efficiency-seeking automotive OEM environment, Ford Otosan reshaped its supply chain business standards. The main aim is to catch the emerging trends and comply with an Industry 4.0 philosophy. Within the transition, RFID and cloud solutions are intensively implemented. While transforming its procedures, Ford Otosan also aimed to create a new revenue stream through its Packaging Test Center.

conclude with a panel discussion on preventing and managing risk in the supply chain with leading global OEMs and

tier 1 suppliers.

The significance of MMOG/LE to IATF16949 certification

Mike DICKINSON, General Manager – Automotive, SMMT IF

Recent development and the release of the IATF16949 standard have increased the focus on risk management.

IATF16949 also places additional requirements in the areas of supplier performance monitoring and development

activities.

How does MMOG/LE support these requirements and what are the implications of MMOG/LE being included in Annex

B of the IATF16949 standard?

Monday 15 May

17.35 – 18.05 Breakout

Building an IT infrastructure for RFID Ballroom 2

John F. REIMERS, Senior Project Manager, Robert Bosch

Robert Bosch uses ID technologies in many business sectors to track & trace objects within processes. Striving for continuous improvement in the areas of quality, delivery, cost and lead time, it has become necessary to know the status and exact locations of various objects, e.g. inside the production or logistics processes. The Bosch AUTO-ID infrastructure is built to support track & trace and near real-time bookings, e.g. raw material consumption using RFID.

This session will provide answers to questions such as:

What options are available to integrate RFID-Readers in a company's IT-Infrastructure? How can large enterprises overcome the challenges of individual process support and standardization for

RFID-Hardware and process integration? What benefits can be achieved from a centralized and standardized AUTO-ID-Infrastructure?

eInvoicing: An Obligation not a Choice Ballroom 1

Jean-Luc FAYE, IS Functional Manager, B2B & EDI Expert, Michelin

The European Commission and the various National Governments have been busy legislating for the adoption of eInvoicing with many public authorities having plans to make the practice mandatory during the next few years, some as early as 2017. This means that businesses and organisations must take action now to move away from traditional invoicing.

Although this may involve some pain for those who have clung to the old ways, eInvoicing can only prove to be beneficial for businesses in terms of operational efficiency and significant cost savings. For example, electronic invoices reach the customer more quickly, they are easier to process and they can be stored securely for many years at very low cost.

Mr Faye has extensive first-hand experience in deploying eInvoicing and you will learn:

How to embrace the move to 100% eInvoicing The likely impacts on internal processes Which strategies are available to use The does and don’ts of an eInvoicing project

NOTES

Tuesday 16 May

11.15 – 12.45 Breakout: Digital Connections Ballroom 2

How Connected Technology will give rise to more efficient Supply Chains

Michael MARTIN, VP Strategic Development Global Automotive, DHL

The future is all about technology. Where is technology needed? What solutions are out there? Today, some 15

billion devices are connected to the internet worldwide. In the year 2020, it will probably be 50 billion. Our world is

changing and fantastic possibilities are opening up. Whether driver assistance technologies or networked appliances,

new technologies are making our supply chain operations easier. Advances in automation and robotics will have a

massive impact on operational processes.

While machines can take on many tasks, they certainly can’t replace people completely. In many cases, work will take

on the form of close collaboration between human and machine. Both humans and machines have their strengths. It

is up to us to combine them harmoniously and, in so doing, make our world simpler and more flexible.

Digital Transformation – from Vehicle Manufacturer to Digital Solution Provider

Joachim WALLENSTEIN, Director Marketing & Communication, MAN Truck and Bus

Encouraged by the enormous speed of technological change and the advance of digitization, SmartFactory and

SmartLogistics become increasingly intelligent. It is time to take a closer look at the practical use of innovative

technologies. What motivations lie behind the properties of these techniques, whether totally new or initially used in

other industries?

Making Decisions with a Digital Twin

Dr. Christian SCHWEDE, Head of Department, Fraunhofer IML

Thomas REPPAHN, Senior Vice President, Logistics Product and Process Management, Schenker

With logistics systems getting ever more complex, flexible and connected, decision makers need to be supported by

smart IT solution in order to implement the correct action in ever shorter time-scales. Many IT solutions still only

address specific and isolated problem domains whereas new data is becoming available faster and faster in all manner

of logistics processes. The digital twin is an architectural approach that allows for a comprehensive scalable step-by-

step description of the physical world integrating all data needed for logistic decision making.

Services such as online-simulation are directly connected to the twin allowing the evaluation of decision scenarios in

real-time. This session introduces the concept of the digital twin and illustrates its application for personnel and time-

window planning for a logistic service provider.

This session describes how the world-leading agricultural machinery manufacturer, CLAAS, faced up to the complex

challenge of implementing a secure and user-friendly file based CAD data exchange with its external business partners

with the capability to cope with every different method of exchange.

Thomas Grawe will provide an insight into:

The challenges CLAAS had to overcome in terms of data exchange with business partners

How they faced up to a lack of transparency in data exchange processes

Udo THIENELT, Information Competence Centre Manager, Hella

Joerg WALTHER, Programme Manager EDI, eBusiness, VDA

ISDN has already been phased out in several European countries and network operators in Germany have confirmed

that the service will be completely closed by 2018. The transition to IP-based services is well under way in different

parts of the country and companies that do not yet use the internet to exchange their business data need to act now.

Major OEMs and Tier1s will explain how they are managing, or intend to manage, the migration of their supply base

to the internet-enabled Odette File Transfer Protocol (OFTP2).

This session will cover:

Organising an OEM OFTP2 migration project for a large number of suppliers Experiences from a successful OEM migration campaign. Lessons learnt The challenges of migrating your supply chain as a Tier1 Getting started with OFTP2 The support available from Odette

The tracking of items in transit and the control of their means of transport is an indispensable feature of the VW logistics process. With reference to current projects and the various tools available, VW and their project partners will show how they are achieving their objectives and the benefits that will be realized.

Management of Returnable Packaging Returnable Packaging is a valuable asset. Processes are therefore needed to support transparency in the flow of packaging between customer, supplier and 3rd party service providers. Based on VDA and Odette recommendations VOLKWAGEN GROUP has launched an implementation project for the tracking and tracing of Returnable Packaging in a multi provider logistics environment.

The goal is to support the processes according to a management by exception concept which ensures that the right packaging is at the right place at the right time.

Transport Order Management using EDI In this project, VW (customer) Hella (supplier) and Duvenbeck (transporter) have worked to optimise transport logistics by collaborating on an automated material pick-up procedure. The partners in this project will share their experiences.

The role of the Global Transport Label Thomas Sieck will show how VW are using the Global Transport Label to control consignments throughout the transport process.
