     Wednesday

    Thursday

    Monday

    Tuesday

    Bible Reading: Mark 8:1-13; 1 Corinthians 13; Psalm 89:19-52; Judges 17-18

Have you considered the spiritual discipline of fasting? Thiswould be the act of abstaining from any legitimate good thingfor a predetermined time in order to sharpen your desire forGod. Jesus did not teach what to do “if you fast.” He taughtbelievers what to do “when you fast” (Mt 6:16-18). Jesus did

not say that his followers “might fast,” he said “they will fast”(Mt 9:14-15).

Just a few of the biblical reasons for you to fast are tostrengthen your prayer (Ezra 8:23, Joel 2:13, Acts 13:3), to ex-press repentance (1 Sam 7:6, Jonah 3:5-8), to humble yourselfbefore God (1 Kings 21:27-29, Ps 35:13), to express concern forthe work of God (Neh 1:3-4, Dan 9:3), to overcome temptation(Matt 4:1-11), and most of all, to express love and worship toGod (Luke 2:37).

To read more on fasting as a weighty part of your walk withChrist, pick up a copy of one of these books: Habits of Grace

(David Mathis), Spiritual Disciplines (Donald Whitney), or Hun-ger for God (John Piper).

    Bible Reading: Mark 8:14-21; 1 Corinthians 14:1-25; Psalm 90; Judges 19

Eph 5:4 says “Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk norcrude joking, which are out of place, but instead let therebe thanksgiving.”

You would not bring the toilet brush into the kitchenwhile preparing a meal. The kitchen is not a site for suchfilth. It is out of place. No more should you bring the jokesand humor of the world into the life of someone meantto live as salt and light in this world. Too often amongChristians, you will find the same crude jokes as amongnon-Christians. It ought not to be this way. Laden with sex-ual innuendos, course language, or perverted overtones, these things are out of place among believers. Leavethe tools of the bathroom behind the toilet and keep thekitchen pure and clean — and leave the language and the

jokes of the world in the world. You are not of the world.Instead, look to Christ with a heart of gratitude — “thanks-giving” — for all He has done. The heart that is grateful

leaves the old man behind and strives for purity in both lifeand speech.

    Bible Reading: Mark 7:1-23; 1 Corinthians 12:1-13; Psalm 88; Judges 13-15

Take time, each day this week, to pray over your answers tothe application questions from Sunday’s sermon. Pray and askthe Lord to grow you in all areas of your life:

Application: Are there examples to follow? Commands to

obey? Errors to avoid? Sins to forsake? Promises to claim?Thoughts about God? Principles to live by?

    Bible Reading: Mark 7:24-37; 1 Corinthians 12:14-31; Psalm 89:1-18; Judges 16

In today’s passage, from 1 Corinthians, the Apostle Paul is illus-trating how every part of the the human body is an essentialpart of that body and has an essential function. In this Paul isshowing that unity is an essential need in the church. In theunity of the church there is also a divine diversity in that everybeliever has been given different gifts to use within the bodyof Christ. Spiritual gifts are to be used for the building up ofthe body of Christ in love (read Ephesians 4:1-16).

Pray over this and seek out where you might be able to useyour gifts for the unity and the building up of the body ofChrist.
