Six NCAA Tournament Teams Highlight 2016 Schedule Six NCAA Tournament teams from the 2015 season highlight the 2016 Tulsa men’s soccer schedule, as announced by Head Coach Tom McIntosh. The Golden Hurricane schedule features eight teams that posted double-digit wins and four teams that con-cluded the season ranked in the NSCAA top-25 poll a year ago. The six NCAA Tournament teams include Akron, Santa Clara, SMU, UConn, USF and Creighton (in order of meeting).

Hurricane Ranked Among Nation’s Best The Golden Hurricane’s highest rank-ing came in 2010, when TU was ranked at No. 2 in the NSCAA, Soccer Times and Top Drawer Soccer polls. Tulsa has been ranked as high as No. 3 in the College Soccer News and Soccer America polls, and No. 4 in the BennettRank (now the HeroSports) poll.

A name synonymous with Tulsa men’s soccer, Tom McIntosh is in his 22nd season as the head coach of the Golden Hurricane. He is only the fourth coach in the 35-year history of the program and is the school’s all-time winningest soccer coach. McIntosh accepted the interim position in July of 1995 and was named head coach at his alma mater a year later.

McIntosh is truly the epitome of Tulsa men’s soccer. Since he first walked on campus as a student-athlete in 1986, McIntosh has been a part of 298 of TU’s 385 victories either as a player (1986-88), an assistant coach (1989-91) or as the head coach.

Since his first season as head coach, McIntosh has built Tulsa into a confer-ence powerhouse, through four seasons in the Western Athletic Conference (1996-1999), six seasons in the Missouri Valley Conference (1995, 2000-04),

nine seasons in Conference USA (2005-13) and now two seasons in the American Athletic Conference (2014-present). He has led TU to nine conference championships, including six tournament and three regular season titles. McIntosh has also put the Hurricane into the national spotlight, as Tulsa has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in nine of the last 13 seasons, including national quarterfinal ap-pearances in 2004 and 2009, while posting an 9-8-2 NCAA Tournament mark during that same time.

McIntosh’s tenure is the longest in the history of the TU men’s soccer program. He has an overall record of 228-151-42 and has notched a conference mark of 91-64-22 as a member of four conferences. The Golden Hurricane went undefeated in 21-straight regular-season league games from October 2006 to October 2009, and went undefeated in 22 regu-lar-season road contests, not including neutral site games, from October 2006 to October 2010.

Under McIntosh, the Hurricane has 13 seasons with 10-plus wins, including a school-best 16 victories in 2008, while six of his players (Kyle Brown, Chris Clements, Cristian Mata, Ashley Mc-Innes, Austin Neil and Ryan Pore) have achieved All-America status. Tulsa student-athletes have also excelled in the classroom as 148 players have received conference academic honors, 32 have earned Academic All-District accolades and nine have received Aca-demic All-America recognition.
