Teachers/Counselors work together to make recommendations.
General Information for Staff:
Absences (student)
When a child is absent, the site leader will make a phone call home to verify the absence. Once a child is
absent five days in a row, the child will be removed from your class list.
Appearance
It is summer…dress comfortable, but appropriate, safe, and professional.
Arrival (student)
When students arrive to the site, they will be asked to remain outdoors until the bell rings. Students will
line up according to the grade and room assignment. If it is a rainy day, students will sit in the halls or
gym by their classrooms.
Assessment
The focus of Target Services Summer School – Packer in Training is to maintain skills and assist in school
readiness for September. Pre-Assessments and Post-Assessments are used with Packer in Training-
however those indicators will look different than for those teaching in the 1st-8th grade program.
It is required for Targeted Services Summer School that each teacher use the Spring data from MONDO
assessment s to determine the guided reading level of each student. The data can be found in Infinite
Campus. For those students (or grades) that MONDO is not utilized-please refer to SCANTRON scores of
that student for the previous school year (i.e. Fall/Winter/Spring 2015-16).
Attendance
Please take daily attendance on Infinite Campus by 8:20am.
Behavior (student)
Students will be held to a high expectation for their behavior.
The expectation for students will be that they: 1) Contribute positively in class and 2) Respect yourself,
others, and property.
If a student is demonstrating poor behavior, please call on the phone and the site leader will immediately
come and escort the student to the office. Students will have time to draw or write a reflection of their
behavior before talking with the site leader. Teachers need to provide a description of the incident, orally
or written, so communication is consistent with the student and with the families.
For more serious behavior, student consequences will follow the Students’ Rights and Responsibilities
Book.
Chain of Command
If a problem or concern arises, the first contact will be the site lead. If the problem or concern remains, a
building principal will be contacted by the site lead.
Class Lists
Classes will be created based on similar needs and abilities of students. Teachers will have the
opportunity to provide input about which ability level they are most confident in teaching.
Confidentiality
Protect the child…and yourself! Do not discuss a child’s academic or social progress with anyone who is
not the child’s parents or other teachers who work directly with the child.
Communication
Communication with families is very important to the academic and social success of each child. Feel free
to contact parents regarding positive or negative behavior or academic concerns. Newsletters or
suggestions for activities at home are encouraged, but not required.
Curriculum
Curriculum will be provided for teachers and focused in math and reading (and Science in the
Intermediate/Middle Grades). The focus is to help students maintain their reading and math skills
through enjoyable activities, plays, thematic units, centers, and games while focusing on strengthening
academic language.
Dismissal (student)
When students are dismissed, teachers will walk their class out to the bus loading area. Please help your
students find their correct bus to ensure safety. Parent drop off/pick up will be at a designated location
at the site.
Students are not allowed to change their dismissal plan without parent communication to either the site
leader or the teacher.
Duties (Before, During, and After Summer School)
Each teacher is asked to help monitor/supervise student safety before and after school. In the mornings,
teachers help students off the buses and supervise playground behavior. After school, teachers make
sure students are on the buses and students are picked up by parents.
During school, the teacher is responsible for supervising their class during any breaks, recess, or meals.
Emergencies
In case of a fire or tornado – follow the path to safety on the map located on the classroom door. In case
of a Code Red, turn off the lights, lock the door, close the blinds, and gather the students in the corner
furthest away from doors and windows.
First Day
All Hands-On Deck! On the first day, all staff members are asked to be outside helping students off and on
the buses and supervising the playground. In the morning, each teacher will have a master list of each
student to assist teachers in helping students find the right class.
Food – Lunch and Breakfast
“Grab and Go” Breakfast will be eaten in the classroom and/or site cafeteria.
As classes are entering the building, some grades will pick up their breakfast immediately, and then go to
the classrooms to take attendance. The rest will go to their rooms, take attendance, and then pick up
their breakfasts. Schedules for this will be provided by site leads prior to start of Sumer Session.
Free lunch will be available for all summer school students.
Health of Students
Your site leader is the site nurse for small incidents, checking temperatures, bruises, etc. First Aid
materials are available for small scratches and cuts. A school nurse is on call for major problems.
If a student takes medication, please send them to the office. All student medication will be administered
by the site coordinator.

Visitors need to check-in in the office when entering the building. The site coordinator will call the
classroom for either a child to be sent to the office or that the parent is coming to your room. If a visitor
appears at your room, please ask them to check- in at the office first.
Walkthroughs
Site Leads and Building Principals/Jessica Cabeen will be conducting walkthroughs throughout the
month of summer school. This is done this for several reasons – safety, support, and supervision.
Safety – by walking through rooms and hallways, students know that Site Leads/Principals can be
anywhere in the building.
Support – if/when a parent or administrator asks about what is going on in the classroom
academically or behaviorally, they can honestly say what they have seen in the classroom to
support you.
Supervision – by being in the room, they can learn from the experts! They will be able to see the
interventions in practice to determine the effectiveness of them.
