WHAT’S NEW THIS YEAR?

A workshop will be held on August 8 with Jeff Rogers from the MN Bartender’s Guild. He will

share a wealth of useful information and tips to wow the judges during the cocktail competition.

Cocktail judging on event day will take place with the five main judges prior to the beginning of

etc. You will be provided with a donation acknowledgement letter for your tax purposes.

Cash Bar: 10% of profits donated to Hiawatha Homes Foundation. (Normally, this payment is

made to the Rochester Downtown Alliance, but they will waive this fee for this reason.)

Tips: In addition to your personal tip jar, each bar will have a designated tip jar to collect

donations for the “Most Congenial Mixologist” award.

MIXOLOGIST PROVIDES

An original custom cocktail recipe created to fit the flavors of the holidays as it will be served at

the Festival of Trees in November. You will be judged on creativity, presentation, and taste.

Cocktails must also be suitable for large batches and be created such that the maximum price is

$10 each if placed on a menu.

Cocktail and or/Mocktail ingredients (including liquor), garnishes, ice, and glassware for the

judges’ cocktails.

o Mix, pour, garnish and serve full-size cocktails to each of the six judges.

o Sample size tastings (2 oz max) of a cocktail to event guests (400 max).

If a sponsor is secured to assist with the cost of ingredients, please contact HHF to

discuss the specifics

o Sample size Mocktails (2oz max for 400 guests) in addition to the cocktail (optional).

Certificate of Liability Insurance and a copy of company Liquor License.

High-resolution logo (.jpg or .gif) for event marketing purposes.

Assistance spreading the word about the event via Social Media, company website, word-of-

mouth, etc.

Table décor – No tents, please.

Cash bar setup and signage (optional).

Tip jar for non-donated tips.

Remove all garbage in excess of what will fit in provided receptacles.

HIAWATHA HOMES FOUNDATION PROVIDES

Promotional posters and postcards.

Bar signage – including bar name, competing cocktail name, mixologist name.

2- 6ft skirted tables.

Plastic tasting cups for 400 guests (maximum of 3 oz each).

Garbage and recycling receptacles.

Most Congenial Mixologist tip jar.

Volunteer to assist with tasting.

Recognition! Hiawatha Homes Foundation will give recognition as much as possible. This event

is highly anticipated and your contribution helps continue this tradition in Rochester. All

contestant and sponsor logos will be included in all event promotions as is possible.

COCKTAIL PRESENTATION

Judging will begin at 4 p.m. – prior to event doors opening.

Order of judging will be drawn at random.

Each mixologist will have 10 minutes to present the feature cocktail to the roaming judges’

panel.

Judging criteria will include: presentation, creativity & taste. More details will be provided.

CASH BAR

All contestants will be invited to operate a cash bar during Festive Mixology. Each cash bar

menu will be limited to five (5) items.

If all event tickets are sold, contestants are invited to sell individual tasting samples or full size

versions of the tasting to guests. We will discuss this at the final planning meeting.

AWARDS

Festive Mixology Cocktail Winner.

o Plaque naming business & individual.

o Two tickets to the Festival of Trees Opening Night Gala on November 24.

o Verbal recognition and live interview during the 2016 Festival of Trees Opening Night

Gala.

o Recognition in the Festival of Trees Opening Night Gala program.

Most Congenial Mixologist- plaque awarded for most donations collected during the event for

Hiawatha Homes.

People’s Choice- awarded to mixologist with the most cocktail votes from event guests.

Best Mocktail- awarded to the mixologist with the most mocktail votes from event guests.

WINNING MIXOLOGIST

Think you’ll win? If you do, you will be asked to:

Work with Mayo Civic Center Hospitality to mix batches of the cocktail to be served. They will

purchase all ingredients and receive all proceeds from the cocktail sales at the Opening Night

Gala.

Attend the Opening Night Gala to relish in the glory of being the best mixologist in Rochester!

Add the delicious cocktail to your menu following the Festival of Trees.

OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS

Weather Backup Plan

If necessary, use of back up plan will be decided at 12 p.m. on event day. You will be notified

immediately.

Rochester Downtown Alliance (RDA) Rules

Participating bars are responsible for providing their own liquor liability insurance showing

coverage for the Peace Plaza to the Rochester Downtown Alliance. The liquor liability insurance

certificate must be provided (30) days prior to the event and include the following wording:

o Description: “Event: Festive Mixology, September 8, 2016; Peace Plaza. The Rochester

Downtown Alliance and the City of Rochester are listed as additional insured with

respect to the General Liability policy when requested by a written contract.”

All bars are required to provide a copy of their liquor license to the Rochester Downtown

Alliance thirty (30) days prior the event in order to participate. Hiawatha Homes Foundation

(HHF) will forward this to RDA on your behalf upon receipt.

No smoking by any vendors/employees. This is a Health Department rule and will be strictly

enforced for all event vendors. By law, smoking is prohibited on the Peace Plaza.

The RDA is requiring all vendors to sell or promote product within their assigned bar space only.

This includes promotional materials. Bar personnel are not permitted to walk through the crowd

handing out promotional materials, flyers, etc.

Please note it is the participating bar’s responsibility to ensure no serving of alcohol to underage

customers. HHF will check IDs at the event entrance and provide an event wrist band.

The RDA, HHF, or any associated businesses or sponsors are not responsible for any accidents

that take place as a result of your vending at the event.

OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS (cont.)

The RDA or HHF is not responsible for any goods that you sell that in any way cause harm to

the purchaser of your goods or services provided at the event.

All authorized vendors participating in the event shall be individually and severally responsible

to the RDA or HHF for any loss, personal injury, deaths, and/or any other damage that may

occur as a result of the vendor’s negligence or that of its servants, agents, and employees, and all

vendors hereby agree to indemnify and save the RDA and HHF harmless from any loss, cost,

damages, and other expenses, including attorneys’ fees, suffered or incurred by the RDA or HHF

by reasons of the vendors’ negligence or that of its servants, agents, and employees; provided

that the vendors shall not be responsible nor required to indemnify the RDA or HHF for

negligence of the City, its servants, agents, or employees. No insurance is provided by the RDA

or HHF to participants in events.
