JULY 9-10, 2016
TransitionsAs we are transitioning this year with our new festival chairs, Joy and Doug Kornish, we are starting fresh on other new adventures, as well. The last couple weekends, I have been transitioning as pastor of three parishes instead of one. I’ve started doing the weekend Masses. Last week I was at St. Anthony, and next week it’s St. Margaret-St. John. I am grateful for the help of Fr. Jason, Msgr. Lane and Fr. Dave Sunberg and that the archbishop allowed all of us to be involved in our region.
There are so many things that are new to us this year, and the festival chairs and I realize we couldn’t get by without the support and help of the parishioners. Thank you all for volunteering in all the many ways it takes to keep our parish family thriving.
If you are unable to make it the festival, don’t forget to patronize us by buying or selling your raffle tickets, donating a bid-and-buy item, or making a donation to support the parish festival.
See you next weekend at the festival!

Luke 10:25-37
“Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the man who fell in with the robbers?” –Luke 10:36
Life is not just a matter of loving God but of loving the Lord our God with all our hearts, all our souls,
all our strength, and all our minds (Lk 10:27).How do we know whether we are loving God with
all our being? A good indication is whether or not we are loving our neighbors as ourselves (Lk 10:27). “One who has no love for the brother he has seen cannot love the God he has not seen” (1 Jn 4:20).
How do we know whether we love our neigh-bors? We love our neighbors if we are willing to give hands-on, sacrificial service to them, as did the Good Samaritan (Lk 10:33-35). We love our neighbors if we are willing to lay down our lives for them (1 Jn 3:16), even if they are our enemies (see Rm 5:8). We love our neighbors if we love as the crucified Jesus loves. Con-sequently, we love our neighbors by grace, not by any power of our own.
If you love as Jesus loves, you love your neighbor and you love God with all your heart. Live a life of love in Jesus.
“Praise Him with sounding cymbals, praise Him with clanging cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise
the Lord! Alleluia” –Palms 150:5-6

The Kyrie Eleison is still frequently prayed in Greek.
It originated in Greek liturgies and became part of the Latin
Rite in the fifth century. It is essentially a response to a litany.
The Trinitarian interpretation (Lord… Christ … Lord) was a
later development. Until 1969, each line was prayed or sung
three times; after 1969 each line was sung or prayed (by a
leader or choir) and then repeated (by the assembly). While
the prayer can be included in the penitential rite, since it
implores the Lord’s mercy, it is above all a prayer of praise to
the Risen Christ in litany form.

God Speaks in WhispersHearing God’s voice amidst the noise and busy-ness of our
lives can be difficult. But He is always there to guide and help
us, and He has given us other people and resources to help
us, as well. If you think God may be calling you to reli-
gious life and you need someone to talk to, give us a call at 421.3131, ext. 2890.

St. Francis Solano (1549 - 1610) Francis came from a leading family in Andalusia, Spain. Perhaps it was his popularity as a student that enabled Francis in his teens to stop two duelists. He entered the Friars Minor in 1570, and after ordination enthusiastically sacrificed himself for others. His care for the sick during an epidemic drew so much admiration that he became embarrassed and asked to be sent to the African missions. Instead he was sent to South America in 1589.
While working in what is now Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay, Francis quickly learned the local languages and was well received by the indigenous peoples. His visits to
the sick often included playing a song on his violin.
Around 1601 he was called to Lima, Peru, where he tried to recall the Spanish colonists to their baptismal integrity. Francis also worked to defend the indigenous peoples from oppression. He died in Lima and was canonized in 1726. – www.americancatholic.org

PA S T O R’ S R A M B L I N G S1 PARISHIONER IN MILITARY SERVICE: There was a nice write-up about one of our parishioners in the Norwood Star (photo, left). Timmy Peddicord, a longtime altar server and parishioner of St. Cecilia, recently graduated from boot camp. His parents are parishioners Dave and Carolyn Peddicord. They have had several family members join the military. We are all so thankful for their service, and it was nice that Norwood was able to recognize one of the families in their city. 1 BID-AND-BUY: I put together a beach/pool chair gift package (photo, left) for bid-and-buy this year. It was fun collecting all of the items you might need for a beach
vacation. The package includes tall, colorful citronella candles, a cooler shaped like a fishing bobber, a beach blanket made to be a carryall. There are also fun plates that will hold your beer in the center and food around it--and the plates float! Beach
cups, towel, chair with pillow, umbrella and more complete the package! 1 ROSARY SCROLL: I came across this Rosary scroll at an antique shop recently (photo, bottom left). It’s very unique. While you pray each bead, you look at the beautiful illustration that goes with it. I took one pic with the scroll opened so you can see the interesting concept of the scroll. It would be so nice to still have something like this around for young children to pray along with the family. 1 EYE INJURY: I wanted to let everyone know that I had to leave the parish picnic early because I had hurt my eye before I arrived,
and the irritation got worse as the day went on. I’m sorry if I missed talking to any of you. Every time I was in the sun, it made my eye water and hurt, and I ended up at urgent care to get it looked at. Special eye drops and eye patch later (photo, left), I was ready to go. 1 CANOE TRIP: Seventeen men from St. Cecilia, St. Margaret-St. John, and St. Anthony came together
for the first pastoral region men’s ministry canoe outing (photo, above). They had a wonderful time canoeing and kayaking down the Little Miami River. They started 5 miles north of Loveland and finished the trip with lunch at The Works in Loveland. Thanks to Cody Egner and Rob Brock for organizing this wonderful opportunity for fraternity among the three parishes of our region. We hope to organize a hiking or whitewater rafting trip next. 1 WELCOME, CHILDREN OF GOD: Welcome to our newly baptized—Hadley James, daughter of Michael and Caroline Gregoire (photo, above left), and Danielle Elizabeth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Frey (photo, left).

Parish Excursion to the Jubilee MuseumJoin us on Sunday, August 7, as we travel to the Jubilee Museum in Columbus, Ohio. We will depart from Saint Cecilia at 12:30 PM. The cost is $10—a suggested donation to the museum.
The Jubilee Museum was established in 1998 by Fr. Kevin F. Lutz. Its purpose is to preserve the Catholic mind and memory as it is represented in art. The museum embraces liturgical art and secondarily any art that in some way tells the story directly or indirectly of Christ, Mary, the saints, and the history of the Catholic Church. The museum also embraces art that helps reference Christian history and the congregations of The Reformation. The museum holds in high esteem the Jewish faith and preserves a significant collection of Jewish art and history. This Museum has a unique collection of beautiful vessels and vestments for the Roman Catholic liturgy as well as many collections of ancient missals and bibles.
Archives on the WebIf you are ever unable to make it to Mass at St. Cecilia and would like to catch up on what you missed, you can find weekend homilies and past bulletins archived on our website. Both can be found under the MEDIA tab at www. stceciliacincinnati.org.
