This initial University of Kentucky College of Nursing conference is designed specifically for

faculty who teach in Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs. The target audiences are DNP

program leaders and faculty who wish to enhance teaching strategies, student projects and solve

programmatic issues. This conference will feature several national speakers as well as four

concurrent sessions offered on both days. This allows participant attendance at all four sessions.

The sessions will include leadership and practice projects, the role of the portfolio, and strategies

for successful practice placements.

Purpose and Learner Outcomes:

Participants will use educational strategies to improve professional behaviors and leadership skills

in evidence based practice to enhance the competency of the DNP graduate.

Conference Objectives:

Examine DNP education and practice models to determine strategies to improve nursing practice

Compare National Organization guidelines for application in DNP education and practice

Appraise the collaboration between academic and practice partners

Assess strategies for developing DNP student leadership skills in practice

This session will focus on issues related to state authorization and

regulations for distance education programs, particularly clinical placements.

Participants will also explore strategies for complying with state authorization

and regulations to meet the needs of students and the program

Clinical Practice Projects: What They Are and What They Are Not

Much variation exists among DNP programs across the country in terms

of requirements for the clinical project. This presentation will

1) illuminate some of the variation, 2) provide rationale for the

differences where available, and 3) provide a forum to discuss the ideal

DNP project.

“Successful DNP Clinical Leadership Projects”
