ADVOCACY

Advocating for a More Inclusive Worldfor All People Is at the Core of What We Do

Raising awareness for people with disabilities is key to ouradvocacy efforts. UCP of NYC self-advocates participated inthe 2016 NYC Disability Pride Parade. UCP of NYC also hostedits yearly Family Connect Summit that drew hundreds ofpractitioners and families seeking the latest information andresources available. In order to widen our borough-basedoutreach to parents, we organized multiple parent forums,workshops and webinars on topics ranging from Conflict FreeCase Management to Helping Your Child with Autism Copewith Anxiety. UCP of NYC also increased visibility for disabilityissues through positive media placements in the local press.

IMPACT:

We reached over 3,000 parents citywidethrough our Family Connect Summit,

parent forums, workshops, and webinars.

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

Building Bridges andPartnerships for Brighter Futures

IMPACT:UCP of NYC’s individuals became changeagents teaching hundreds of students

and community members about disabilityand assistive technology at New York’s

top educational institutions.

Our individuals increased their presence in New York Cityneighborhoods by teaching students and the community atlarge about disability at New York’s most prestigious educa-tional and arts institutions. Some of these partnerships includedan on-going collaboration with New York University’s TandonSchool of Engineering’s Disabilities Course, where our indi-viduals partner with students to create assistive technologyprojects. Our individuals also continued to partner with theMOUSE Design League, a national organization that offers ayear-long after school design and technology program forhigh school students who learn about applied design, tech-nology and leadership.

ADAPT Is the Leader in Providing High QualityEducation for Special Needs Children

IMPACT:

Our universal pre-kindergartenand integrated preschool programs

offered families a high-quality,family friendly learning environment,

educating nearly 2,000 childrenof all developmental levels throughout

the five boroughs of New York City.

New York League for Early Learning (NYLEL) joined UCP of NYC.This expanded our educational services to children withspecial needs to 14 schools, making our preschool networkthe largest for children with special needs in New York City.

Our Philanthropic Endeavors AreSupported by Loyal Donors Like You

IMPACT:

The Women Who Care Luncheonsraised a total of nine million dollars

in the course of 15 years forNew Yorkers with disabilities.

UCP of NYC celebrated its 15th and final Women Who CareLuncheon with a special tribute to Loreen Arbus, Founderand Chair who has carried on her parents’ legacy throughthis event with many high-profile female trail blazers andleaders as guests and honorees through the 15 years. Thisyear’s luncheon raised nearly $610,000 to support ourmany programs. Honorees were: Beverly Bond, Jenny Long,Northwell Health, Deborah Norville, and Ellyn Shook.

QUALITY OF LIFE INITIATIVES

Living with Disability Doesn’t Mean Inability

IMPACT:

Our Recreational Program grew to enablemore individuals to experience a wider

choice of activities, guided byour dynamic team of Program Specialists.

Our individuals engaged in a wide array of adaptive sports,such as skiing, surfing, sailing, skydiving, and ballroom dancing,in addition to a robust arts and digital media program. Ourrecreational and leisure activities, sports and arts programsincluded trips to New York City’s beaches, parks, and museumsas well as out of state excursions to Washington, DC.

We are a Leader in Providing AssistiveTechnologies to Families in New York City

IMPACT:

In 2016, UCP of NYC was again chosen to be the statewideprovider for Assistive Technology by the New York State AssistiveTechnology Act Program (TRAID). We are the leading providerof state-of-the-art low and high-tech assistive technologiesto children and adults in New York City.

Our commitment to providing cutting edgeassistive technology for adults and childrenin our programs and in the wider communityenabled thousands of people with disabilities

to increase their independence in a moreadaptable world.

We joined with PARTNERS HEALTH PLAN (PHP) and createda vision for coordinated health and long term supports forpeople with intellectual and developmental disabilities thatis the most unique in the U.S. The partnership is owned andoperated by nonprofit agencies already providing services toindividuals and families throughout New York State. As weprepare for services to be funded from a Managed Care insur-ance platform and delivered in more individualized ways, wewill ensure that everyone who receives services from us willobtain the care they need to lead independent, productiveand healthy lives.

EXPANSION OF OUR NETWORK AND NEW INITIATIVES

Our partnership with New York League for Early Learning (NYLEL)makes us the leading provider of preschool educational servicesand other early childhood programs to children throughoutthe city in a wide variety of integrated and specialized settings.It is the largest program of its kind in NY State.

Human First joined our network as a quality organizationthat offers a variety of residential and programming options,including supported housing to adults with a variety of chall-enging conditions, especially in the boroughs where we addedadditional outreach to communities in need.

WOMEN WHO CARE LUNCHEON 2016

We celebrated the 15th and final Women Who Care Luncheon benefiting United Cerebral Palsy of New York City (UCP of NYC). This event was held at Cipriani42nd Street on May 9, 2016 and celebrated the accomplish-ments and philanthropy of many female leaders across theglobe. It was also a special tribute to Loreen Arbus, Founderand Chair of the luncheon, who carried on her parents’ legacy,which began 70 years ago. The final event raised over $600,000dollars for over 18,000 children and adults with disabilitiesthroughout New York City. The presenting sponsors wereHearst Corporation and Loreen Arbus Foundation.

The 15th Annual UCP of NYC Golf Tournament was heldSeptember 19, 2016 at Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase,New York. This popular event raised $250,000 for our vitalprogram and services and attracted over 150 golfers andguests from the tri-state area for a day of golf and entertainment.

The tournament was co-hosted by Teresa Priolo, three-timeEmmy-nominated reporter, Fox 5 News & Good Day New York,and Erika Wachter, sports host and reporter for Fox 5 News.This year the event included a presentation of the UCP of NYCCorporate Champion Award, which was presented to one ofour generous supporters, Michael Berger, Senior ManagingDirector of Colliers International. The award recognizes individ-uals who demonstrate the power to inspire and lead as rolemodels for people with and without disabilities.
