Before the exams

Make sure that you have a copy of the exam timetable.

Mark your exams clearly on this timetable.

Write them out, pin them up somewhere!! Be here for your exam, on time (8.40am

or 1.10pm) and on the right day – this is excellent training for the end of the year.

Exam day: Arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the start of an exam ie

8.40am, 1.10pm For the larger/more complicated exams eg Maths Studies &

Accounting, arrive 30 minutes before the start of the exam. Late? You are allowed to enter the exam room up to 40 minutes

after the start of the exam (ie 9.40am or 2.10pm). However, you will NOT be allowed extra time at the end except for cases of misadventure.

However, if you miss the exam, you may be able to do the exam at a later date if you have a good reason and if there is a time available. Remember - this option is NOT available at the end of the year!!!!

Have all your pens, pencils, spare batteries etc organised beforehand.

You are not permitted to take spare paper or notes of any form into the exam - EXCEPT Mathematics & Info Tech exams.

the exam room so have them open and ready. Do not take a mobile phone into the exam room unless

you are prepared to turn it off and HAND IT UP. Consequence – zero for exam!

You can not have any device on you that can store or transmit information. This is a breach of rules – at the end of the year a report will be sent to the SACE Board – and you WILL receive zero for the exam.

No student is to leave before the end of the exam. Ensure you wear correct school uniform. Assemble on the landing outside of the T Open

area (at the top of the central stairs) before the start of each exam.

In the exam - Check: That you have all the required booklets etc for the exam. Your full name and teacher’s name is on the exam

booklets. You know who your teacher is and how to spell their

name. You are aware of the sections/requirements of the exam

you are sitting ie using blue or black pens, when to use pencil, how to fill in multiple choice answer sheets etc.

Ask your teacher beforehand about the structure of the exam – where you will be writing answers, in the exam booklet, in script booklets etc.

Also - If you would like a dictionary, put your hand up and

ask. One will be delivered to you. If you need more scribble paper, another script booklet,

a pen (if yours runs out) etc, put your hand up and ask. If you wish to go to the toilet, put your hand up and ask.

You will be required to sign out and then back into the exam room on the sheet on the desk at the front of T Open or on the supervisor’s desk in the corridor.

Once you are seated in the exam room you are expected to stay where you are, with out talking until told otherwise.

Illness on the Day If you are ill and are unable to attend the exam,

you MUST – 1. ring the school before 9am on the day of the exam; 2. GO TO THE DOCTOR that day and get a certificate;

Contact me asap (that day) so that we can discuss alternatives. Remember - this option is NOTavailable at the end of the year.

HOWEVER, it is always recommended that, if at all possible, you come to school and sit the exam. See me before the exam to inform me of your illness and then go to the doctor afterwards.

It is very important that we know before hand if you are unwell. At the end of the year we need to observe you in the exam to support Special Provisions.

We will even provide a bucket and your own room if required!!

Remember – at the end of the year, once the exam has been presented and sat by students, there is NO other opportunity to do it other than the next year!!!

Now is the time to get this right!!

Misadventure This is where there are genuine circumstances beyond your

control that prevents you from attending an exam on time or at all.

You will need to provide a statement of the circumstances leading to this situation eg medical certificate or you may be required to organise a Statutory Declaration.

Car accident/Bus Break down – get details on the spot –names, times, registration numbers etc as too difficult to get these later.

This is not for those who are late because the car wouldn’t start or who slept in or got the time wrong!!

As before, contact the school as soon as this occurs so that we can help you.

Special Provisions

Those of you who have applied for SP and returned your forms, you will be notified of the outcome asap.

Those who have not returned the forms need to do so asap – no forms, no Special Provisions.

Those with SP will have an orange note on their desk in the exam room to inform staff of what has been approved.
