UK leaned on veteran leaders Thom-asson and Morgan Bergren, while Mack and freshman Brooke Morgan paced the offensive attack to its first win over the Gators in six tries and the first win over a top-five opponent since the Wildcats took down the No. 4 Minnesota Gophers, 3-2, in 2013. Mack charted a team-best 15 kills, marking the second-consecutive match she has led the team in that category. She also contributed eight digs in the win. The Reb-els loss to Mississippi State snapped a six-match win streak in the series. The Rebels return to action Friday, hosting South Carolina before traveling to College Sta-tion to face Texas A&M Sunday.

Mississippi State: With a successful preseason in the books, the Mississippi State Bulldogs (11-4, 1-1 SEC) kicked off the 2015 SEC season with a tough loss at Alabama, but rebounded with an impressive win at Ole Miss on Sunday. The Bulldogs were able to take the first set against Alabama, thanks to 12 kills in the frame from senior Alex Warren. However, the Crimson Tide took control in the second and third and fended off State’s furious rally in the fourth to secure a 3-1 victory. Despite the loss, Warren was by far the most impressive player on the court, tallying a career-high 23 kills. State rebounded in tremendous fashion on Sunday, traveling to in-state rival Ole Miss and captur-ing a straight-sets victory. The win is the first against UM since 2011, snapping a six-match losing streak. The sweep was only State’s third all-time in Oxford and was the first since 2005. Head coach David McFatrich and the Bulldogs return next weekend for an away-home slate. State travels to Kentucky on Friday, Oct. 2 (6 p.m. CT) and then returns home on Sunday, Oct. 4 (11 a.m. CT) against South Carolina. Both matches will be broadcasted on the SEC Network.

Team NotesMissouri: Mizzou Volleyball dropped its first match of the season Wednesday inside Chaifetz Pavilion as they fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-19) to Saint Louis. Ju-nior Carly Kan had a team-leading 12 kills for Mizzou, while sophomore Courtney Eckenrode paced the team with 21 assists. The Tigers begin SEC play Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Hearnes Center against No. 9 Florida. Mizzou’s conference opener will be televised on SEC Network with first serve scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.

South Carolina: The Gamecocks closed out the non-conference season Tuesday night, welcoming in anoth-er tough test with Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers, a NCAA tournament team from a year ago, claimed the 3-1 victory over South Carolina, 25-15, 17-25, 25-15, 25-23. Dessaa Legros led the team with 13 kills. In Fri-day night’s loss to No. 24 Kentucky, Jacqy Angermiller led the offense with 10 kills in just 20 swings, a new season high for the junior middle blocker. South Caro-lina closed its first weekend of SEC competition Sun-day afternoon, losing at LSU 3-0. Sarah Blomgren led Carolina with eight kills, marking the second time all season that the team’s leading attacker finished with single-digit kills. The conference season continues on the road this weekend as the team travels to the Mag-nolia State for two matches. First up is Ole Miss on Fri-day at 7:30 p.m., followed by Mississippi State Sunday for a noon match that will air on the SEC Network.

Tennessee: The Tennessee Volunteers (15-2, 1-1 SEC) opened SEC play on the road last weekend, losing to Auburn 3-1 before sweeping Georgia 3-0. Senior set-ter Lexi Dempsey recorded double-doubles in both matches, giving her a team-leading eight this year. Sophomore Kanisha Jimenez had a double-double in the Auburn loss. Sophomore Kendra Turner played her first two matches of the season, collecting seven kills against Georgia. Freshman Erica Treiber had 10 blocks against Georgia, the most by a Tennessee player this season. After three weekends on the road, the Vols are back at home to host Auburn on Friday. They will play at Missouri on Sunday.

Texas A&M: In its only match of the week, Texas A&M suffered a 3-1 (21-25, 25-13, 27-25, 25-22) home loss to Arkansas in its SEC opener. It was the first-ever SEC

season opening loss by the Aggies, who joined the league in 2012. It also marked the first home loss of the season for the Aggies, who entered the match 4-0 at Reed Arena. As had been the case in four of the previous five all-time meetings between A&M and Ar-kansas, the team that lost the first set came back to win the match. It was the first time in eight matches this season that A&M did not win the match after win-ning the opening set. Sophomore outside hitter Kiara McGee led A&M with 14 kills while hitting .314, and junior outside hitter Emily Hardesty recorded her third double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs against the Razorbacks. Sophomore setter Stephanie Aiple returned to the lineup midway through the sec-ond set. She had missed the previous two matches after suffering a foot injury in the win against No. 15 Colorado State on Sept. 15. Junior middle blocker Jazz-min Babers, who has started every match of her career (73), led A&M in blocks with five. She ranks ninth in the A&M career records with 296 block assists and needs only three more to move ahead of both Tara Pulaski (1999-03) and Sherri Brinkman (1983-85), who are tied for seventh with 298 career block assists. Freshman defensive specialist Paige Panter made her first career start. A&M opens the road portion of its SEC slate on Wednesday as the Aggies take on the Auburn Tigers in Auburn, Ala. The match begins at 8 p.m. at Auburn Arena, and it will be televised by ESPNU.
