Lost people matter to God. “For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him, would not perish, but have eter-nal life.” Jn. 3:16. Jesus said in Luke 19:10, “The son of man came to seek and save that which was lost.” If we are going to follow Him, we need to be fishing! March 3-5, we will be host-ing a DCPI (Dynamic Church Planting International) train-ing event. We will be offering CPC(Churches Planting Churches), and CPE (Church Planting Essentials). There will also be CT (Certified Training) offered as well, on Monday afternoon, March 2, and Friday morning, March 6. You can learn valuable in-formation about DCPI, Dy-namic Church Planting Inter-national, on their website, DCPI.org.

I encourage all pastors to attend the CPC event and en-courage any potential church planters to attend the CPE event.

We will meet for this event at Hutchinson First Church of the Nazarene at no cost to our district team, with lunch included. I en-courage you to attend if at all possible. You can sign up for this event by going to the Nazarene website at www.nazarene.org and click-ing on the USA/Canada but-ton. Then click on the events button and scroll down to the Kansas DCPI event. I am making the registration free to any of our Kansas pastors or leaders that would like to

attend. When you get to the payment portion of the event, click on pay with a check, which will allow us to waive that registration fee when you arrive in Hutchinson for the conference.

Church planter C. B. Jerni-gan, and early district superin-tendent on the Kansas/Oklahoma District said this, “Oh, brother, let us return to pioneers days and ways, and go to places where they do not want us, and stay until they think they cannot get along without us, and plant things for God. There is plenty of room ‘out under the stars’. Do not wait for a call, God gave you that.” Sounds like good marching orders for us today!!

In His Grip,

Pastor Jim

what the authors of the research said about that: The authors cite "lack of interest" as the predominating factor in the high attrition rate, a finding con-sistent with earlier studies. What does this have to do with SDMI?

Well, think about the most famous per-

son you know. Someone known in al-

most every nation. Someone

who is a hero, who gave his life

to save many lives. Who do you

know that is a King? (Hint: Re-

member early Sunday School

lessons where “Jesus” was al-

most always the right answer.)

Well, if you personally know

Jesus, the King of Kings, and Lord of

Lords, you are a winner. But, if you don’t

know him, you are only just a few people

away from asking the right questions to

get to know him. On the other side of

the equation, you know somebody that

needs to know Jesus. Don’t let lack of

interest keep you from making disciples.

Let’s continue doing the job Jesus gave

us. That is to lead people to Jesus, bap-

tize them as new believers, then teach

them to be like Him in all ways of life.

“Everybody ought to know who Jesus is.”

Do you personally know anyone that is famous? Right now Chris Kyle is well known, Tom Brady is talked about a lot, and we’re hearing names like Huckabee, Rand Paul, Rubio, Romney, Bush … quite a few people whose names we know. But do you really know, first person, anyone that is famous? Do you know someone whose names and lives are likely to be found in future history books?

The idea called Six Degrees of Separation came about in a play by John Guare, who used the theory of Milgran’s Small World Experiment, to demon-strate that each of us knows someone that knows someone who is famous, or someone specifically at some point on this planet. The theory was doubted because someone said, “Well what about the Koruboand Tribe, or other “lost tribes” in Brazil?“ Well, I guess that just goes to show we need more missionaries!

Nevertheless, in continued research, it has been shown that given internet con-nectivity, we know an awful lot of peo-ple. I am, for example, only three people away from personally knowing Benjamin Netanyahu, and I’d love to visit with him!

An interesting study came out of Colum-bia University in 2003, in which 100,000 people volunteered for this kind of a connectivity study, but only 384 (3%) of them reached 18 of their targets spread across 13 different countries. The rest of the volunteers appear to have failed and/or quit the experiment and read

approach and feed fish. Those who taught had doctorates in fishology, but the teachers did not fish. They only taught fishing. Year after year, after tedious training, many were graduated and were given fishing licenses. They were sent to do full-time fishing, some to distant waters, which were filled with fish. Many who felt the call to be fishermen responded. They were commis-sioned and sent to fish. But like the fishermen back home, they never fished.

They engaged in all kinds of other occupations. … Some felt their job was to relate to the fish in a good way so the fish would know the difference between good and bad fishermen. Others felt that simply letting the fish know they were nice, land-loving neighbors and how loving and kind they were was enough. Now it’s true that many of the fishermen sacrificed and put up with all kinds of difficul-ties. Some lived near the water and bore the smell of dead fish every day. They received the ridicule of some who made fun of their fisher-men’s clubs and the fact that they claimed to be fishermen yet never fished.

Imagine how hurt some were when one day a person suggested that those who don’t fish were real-ly not fishermen, no matter how much they claimed to be. Yet it did sound correct. Is a person a fisher-man if, year after year, he never fishes?”

Jesus said, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19. Which begs the question, If you’re not fishing are you truly following?

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Jim

I ran across this modern day parable in Church Leader magazine. I thought I would pass it along: “Now it came to pass that a group existed who called them-selves fishermen. And lo, there were many fish in the waters all around. In fact, the whole area was sur-rounded by streams and lakes filled with fish. And the fish were hungry.

Week after week, month after month, and year after year, these who called themselves fishermen met in meetings and talked about their call to fish, the abundance of fish, and how they might go about fishing. Year after year they care-fully defined what fishing means, defended fishing as an occupation, and declared that fishing is always to be a primary task of fishermen.

Continually, they searched for new and better methods of fishing and for new and better definitions of fishing. They created witty slo-gans and displayed them on big beautiful banners. These fishermen built large, beautiful buildings called “Fishing Headquarters.” The plea was that everyone should be a fisherman and every fisherman should fish. One thing they didn’t do, however: They did not fish. In addition to meeting regularly, they organized a board to send out fishermen to other places where there were many fish. The board hired staffs and appointed commit-tees and held many meetings to define fishing, to defend fishing, and to decide what new streams should be thought about. But the staff and committee members did not fish.

Large, elaborate, and expensive training centers were built whose original and primary purpose was to teach fishermen how to fish. Over the years courses were offered on the needs of fish, the nature of fish, where to find fish, the psycho-logical reactions of fish, and how to
