Reno Rumble Low Point Tournament August 21-23
Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center
The City of Reno Adaptive Recreation Program will
host their annual low point wheelchair rugby
tournament. Teams from the United States Quad Rugby
Association (USQRA) will join the Sierra Storm in a
fun filled and competitive weekend of wheelchair
rugby. For game schedules and more information

City of Reno Military Sports Camp September 16-20
The City of Reno with the generous support of its
presenting sponsors, and local adaptive sports programs
plan to once again host 15 disabled veterans and injured
service members and their spouse/guest for a multiday
Military Sports Camp. All skill levels are welcome.
This program is not just about sports; it’s also about
attitude, camaraderie and promoting healthy, active
lifestyles. There is no cost to Military Service Men or
Women and their guest. Registration preference will be
given to Nevada Service Members and Residents.

Volunteer Opportunities Volunteers are a vital part of the City of Reno Inclusion/Adaptive Recreation program. Volunteers will gain
rewarding experiences through assisting Parks and Recreation staff with a variety of programs or providing
additional support for participants. We are currently seeking volunteers for our upcoming programs! For more

City of Reno to host Fitness Classes for Individuals
with Spinal Cord Injury: Sponsored by Renown Health Project Fit Reno, sponsored by Renown Health, provides weekly fitness classes and an all inclusive facility
membership pass to promote a continuum of service, transitioning individuals living with Spinal Cord Injury
from the hospital to their home communities to continue to work on their home rehabilitation program and per-
sonal fitness goals. Classes are taught by a Renown Rehabilitation Hospital Physical Therapist and a City of
Reno fitness instructor. Individuals living with spinal cord injury will be required to participate in a minimum
of 4 structured classes. The class facilitator will cover the following topics throughout the duration of the pro-
gram: orientation to equipment, assessment of fitness level, proper technique to develop strength, endurance
and flexibility, and discussion of fitness goals. After the minimum requirement of fitness classes is completed,
participants will be eligible for a FREE all inclusive facility membership good for one year.

Mark Wellman’s Adventure Day at the Sparks Marina June 7 @ 10am-2pm

All people with disabilities are invited to attend Mark Wellman's Adventure Day. A
kayaking seminar will be featured, adaptive rock climbing, adaptive sailing, and
handcycles will be available to

Looking to Stay Cool this Summer? City of Reno Pools
All City of Reno pools have lifts, slow lap lanes and therapeutic
steps to make swimming more accessible for all users. The PAL
(Portable Aquatic Lift), available at Idlewild Pool, can be set up
anywhere on the pool deck so people with disabilities or those
who cannot enter the pool through traditional means can be
gently lowered into the water.
Truckee River Whitewater Park at Wingfield Park
Enjoy rafting, tubing, kayaking, fishing or just the sights and
sounds of the river at the fully accessible Whitewater Park in
downtown Reno. This one of a kind facility provides ramped
access to the river at Barbara Bennett Park and from the river at
the east end of Wingfield Park.

Northern California Junior Sports Camp July 5-11
The 32nd annual camp will be themed “History of Sport.” There are many exciting
activities planned, including a kayak trip on the San Francisco Bay. This camp is
designed to allow youth with physical disabilities ages 5-21 to experience personal
growth, enhanced self esteem, and increased independence. The camp provides
introductory and intermediate instruction in both recreational and competitive
wheelchair sports. World-class wheelchair athletes serve as role models and provide
instruction in archery, basketball, table tennis, track & field, tennis, swimming, etc.
This summer will include sea kayaking in Sausilito. Space is limited to the first
30 registrants. Registration and payments are due by Friday June 5th 2015.

Goalball July 10-August 14 | 7-8pm
Fridays @ Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center
City of Reno, funded by a grant from the United States
Association of Blind Athletes (USABA), will be hosting a six-
week introduction to Goalball program. Goalball is a fun and
exciting game developed for individuals that are blind or have low vision. Goalball is a paralympic sport and
can be played at a competitive level, or for fun and fitness. The City of Reno welcomes all skill levels!

Adaptive Equipment Rental Program What do you do when you want to play but don’t have the toys? YOU RENT! Our adaptive recreation
equipment is available to rent (sport wheelchairs, roller sleds, handcycles, etc.). Renting makes it affordable for
participants to try before they buy, be a weekend warrior, gain skills, and be involved in more than one sport.

Wheelchair Rugby July-December
Tuesday and Thursday 2-5pm - $50
Saturday 12-3pm - $25
Wheelchair or Quad Rugby is a fast paced and competitive
sport for individuals with physical disabilities that affect all
four extremities. Players use special “Rugby Wheelchairs” to
play the sport. These chairs are very maneuverable and can
take a hit or two. Rugby players must be able to push their own

Reno Area Disabled Veterans Represent at Valor Games May 29-June 1
Reno area Disabled Veterans participated in the Valor Games Far West competition in Alameda, CA. Compe-
tition for Disabled Veterans was offered in archery, biathlon, cycling, field events, power lifting and swim-
ming. There were many medals claimed throughout the weekend and we are excited to congratulate our local

Team River Runner It's time to start paddling again. Team River
Runner (TRR), established in August 2004 in the
Washington, DC area, is an all-volunteer
organization run by kayakers. Through whitewater
kayaking on various rivers, lakes, and the ocean,
TRR promotes health, healing, and new challenges
for healing Veterans and their families. Team
River Runner Reno is looking for Veterans and
disabled active duty members to participate in
weekly pool sessions.

Disabled Sports: Military Summer Camp

The City of Reno is proud to offer our disabled veterans weekly fitness classes in
our facility weight room. Classes will cover orientation to equipment, assessment of
fitness level, proper technique to develop strength, endurance and flexibility and
discuss fitness goals. Upon completion of four classes participants will be eligible
for a FREE all inclusive facility membership good for one year.
Project Hero Ride 2 Recovery’s Project HERO (Healing Exercise Rehabilitation
Opportunity) provides training and supports cycling programs at military
hospitals, Army Warrior Transitions Units, Marine Wounded Warrior Units
and VA locations to help Healing Heroes overcome obstacles they face. Begun
in November 2010 at Bethesda Naval Medical Center (now Walter Reed
National Military Medical Center), Project HERO has proven the effectives of group riding in the
rehabilitation of injured servicemen and women. Cycling is important part of the recovery and rehabilitation.

Damonte Ranch High School - 10500 Rio Wrangler Pkwy
Cost $10
Riders new to adaptive cycling will have an opportunity to
sample a range of adaptive cycles on the Damonte Ranch
Wetlands Loop. Intermediate and advanced riders will start their ride from the same location but can travel up
to 20 miles on the Damonte Ranch lanes. Friends and family members are welcome to ride but are also re-
quired to register. Lunch will be provided through a generous donation from Nevada Paralyzed Veterans of

Northern California/Nevada Adaptive Cycling Series Continued Join us while we cycle various locations in Northern California and Nevada throughout the summer/fall. There
will be a series of organized rides in the Bay Area, Sacramento, Chico, Monterey, and Reno. Each ride will
offer routes of varying distances for beginner to advanced cyclists.

4th Annual Hangtown Cranker Classic Join Access Leisure, Sacramento fir their 4th annual ride in
Placerville, CA on June 27, 2015. This is a handcycle and bicycle
charity ride. There will be optional distances of 5, 10, or more miles.

iCan Bike Camp: June 22-26, 2015 The Down Syndrome Network of Northern Nevada is proud to present the 3rd
Annual iCan Bike Camp! The iCan Bike program has an 80% success rate and
teaches individuals with any disability ages 8 and up how to ride a two-
wheeled bike independently. Riders attend the same 75-minute session each
day for five consecutive days (Monday through Friday) and they are
physically assisted and encouraged by two volunteer spotters.

Arts and Crafts Class We've teamed up with Arts for all Nevada to provide Weekly Wonders, a craft/art workshop held
on Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Larry D. Johnson Community Center, 1200 12th Street. Par-
ticipants (16 yrs. or older) will develop their artistic abilities through a variety of fun projects. Cost: $5 per

Bowling Bring your friends and come out to practice your game and have a great time too - every Wednesday at 2:45
p.m. at Coconut Bowl! We keep track of scores to average for the Special Olympics tournaments. Cost: $2 per

Leisure Without Limits People with disabilities who wish to meet new friends through recreational activities will enjoy taking part in
our Leisure Without Limits Program.
Camp Lotsafun This year’s camp is 6 days and 5 nights with so much more fun! Each camp
will be filled with new and exciting opportunities for all of our campers to
experience. We are looking to make this summer the best EVER! The week
will be action packed with activities that will entertain everyone. Big surprises

CHOICES-Art Show June 19 @ 12-5pm
Choices Transitional Services will be hosting an art show and fundraiser at the Granite
Building at the Pioneer Commerce Center in Truckee, CA. This program has been pro-
viding progressive programs and services to adults with developmental disabilities for

Journey of Hope P.A.C.E. (Partnering for Awareness and Community Education) Event June 12 @ 5-8pm
This free, public event will take place in front of
the Student Center at Western Nevada College
in Carson City. Journey of Hope is a cross-
country bicycle trek beginning in San Francisco
and ending in Wahington, D.C. As part of their
tour, Journey of Hope cycling team will be
coming to Carson City to help raise awareness
for people with disabilities! During this time, The Nevada Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities
(NGCDD), WNC, and Down Syndrome Network of Northern Nevada will host a free vendor fair. This event
will educate and inform individuals with intellectual/developmental/physical disabilities, their families, and
professionals about services and supports available in their communities. Vendor space is limited!

Special Olympics Participation in Special Olympics is easy and free. The only require-
ment is the completion of an "Application for Participation in Special
Olympics" form. Once this form is on file in the Special Olympics
office, the athlete may participate in any sport that they choose.
