When children are active participants in their development from an early age, when their natural needs and tendencies are recognized and addressed, when choice is allowed and guided, when responsibility is expected and nurtured, a child emerges whose characteristics are concentration, self-discipline, love of learning, joy, and respect for others and for the world. This child is our hope for a better future, for global understanding, for peace.

2015-2016 was such an exciting and productive year.

We started off our school year with a summer of great classes for both Primary and Elementary children. Our property lends itself to exploration and summer fun, and our outdoor environments yield delicious produce and fragrant flowers all summer long.

In September, we reconnected with families during our Back-to-School and Parent Events. We find our social life so important in maintaining a vibrant and engaged community.

In the Fall, we celebrated our community of friends and families by hosting our 2nd Annual Fall Festival. While Mother Nature offered a hearty rainfall (with a smattering of hail), our true Northwest families were undaunted and enjoyed hayrides, hot apple cider and a pumpkin hunt around our gorgeous property.

As always, we welcomed guests from around the world, hosted observers and practice teachers from MNW, our local teacher-training center, and offered Open Houses to help parents better understand Montessori Education and what is especially unique about MSB.

In December we gathered for a winter sing-along before we went on winter break. Our annual Auction was themed Peace, Love, Party and we demonstrated just that! For our paddle raise, we funded the purchase of a school van, much needed for our Elementary practice of going out into the world to see subjects of study first-hand. The proceeds from the auction exceeded $100,000 and for this we are extremely grateful!

We welcomed two new beautiful babies to our staff family, and continue to celebrate our exceptional staff, both the young and the young-at-heart!

At the end of the school year we had the bittersweet privilege of bidding farewell to our

graduates. We are sad to see them go, yet so proud to be a significant part of their path to adulthood.

We are grateful for our strong, happy community of children, staff, friends and families!

The MSB Board of Directors is responsible for the financial stability of the school. With a Board-approved budget, MSB operates with predictable revenue and well-managed expenses. The Administration maintains a conservative fiscal agenda with our primary focus being exceptional childhood development and education. As a non-profit organization, MSB’s continued success depends on maintaining a strong fiscal foundation, and philanthropy plays a significant role. Our tight-knit community’s contributions to our Annual Fund and Auction, coupled with a disciplined operating budget, ensure a solid fiscal reserve that can weather an unpredictable economic climate.

Thank you, MSB community - families, staff and board - who together contributed to our Annual Appeal! Your support demonstrates an understanding and endorsement of MSB and its mission. Thank you to Annual Appeal chair Eric Thompson for his dedication and inspiration. Our 29th Annual Auction was one fine party! Co-chairs Jacqueline Holden and Ciza Srivatsa herded our many volunteers and created a groovy atmosphere for Peace, Love & Party at the MAC. Proceeds support our ongoing financial aid, professional development and a healthy capital reserve. This amazing event is a cornerstone of our community. As always, a heartfelt ‘thank you’ goes to all of you who have volunteered in so many ways, large and small. Your talents, care and generosity are greatly appreciated and valued. Thank you one and all.
