Apprenticeship information New videos – Employer Stories The central role that employers play in creating Australian Apprenticeships is highlighted in a new series of videos focussing on the construction industry in the ACT. These videos will interest students and jobseekers as they provide an employer’s perspective on Australian Apprenticeships, job hunting and job interviewing. Australian Apprenticeships Construction Pathways – Employer Stories is a project developed and delivered by the Australian Apprenticeships and Traineeships Information Service, working with partners including the Canberra Institute of Technology and the Housing Industry Association Apprenticeships Centre. The videos are published on the Australian Apprenticeships – My Gain YouTube channel (www.mygain.com.au) which also has a range of apprentice job hunting stories.

Online Portfolio – the BOSTES up2now website The up2now website allows you to create an online portfolio of your Results, Awards and Achievements. You can add a personal description, upload supporting evidence (documents, images and websites), and organise what you have done into customised portfolios that can be shared with prospective employers or education providers. There are four ways you can add to your portfolio: Results include school reports or your RoSA student eRecord. Awards include publicly recognised, formal accreditation provided by an organisation upon successful completion, such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award or St John Ambulance First Aid certificate. Achievements may not necessarily come with any official certificate, but are just as important to acknowledge and share. Achievements are organised into seven areas: Academic, Performance, Work Skills and Career Development, Leadership, Service, Sustained Participation, and Creative Development. Examples of achievements are provided for each area. Portfolios include an overview where you can provide a summary of your portfolio and a personal description. You can also select a background theme for each portfolio. Multiple portfolios can be created with a customised personal overview and selected list of Results, Awards and Achievements. Each portfolio has a unique website address that can be shared and reset to a new address at any time. The up2now website lets you generate a PDF file of your portfolios as a backup of your up2now entries or to produce a more traditional print portfolio. If you would like to develop your own online portfolio using this BOSTES facility, please see Mr Russell so he can forward your details (name, year and email address) to the BOSTES so they can invite you into the up2now program by creating an account for you and providing logon details to you.
