CLASS FORMAT Fortnightly videoconferencing. The Videoconferencing (VC) sessions are held for 40mins
once every two weeks. The VC sessions start with checking audio/video qualities and PPt slides readiness (5mins). Then, there will be a group presentation by Korean students. Students use Power Point slides for their presentations in order to make it easy for their partner school students to understand details of the presented contents. Korean students will use Korean words as well as English to help Australian students learn more about Korean language and culture in their presentation. Then it will be followed by Q & A about the topic. Students are also encouraged to ask about any other topics of their interest, including personal/social/youth culture issues. The latter half of the VC will be dedicated to interactive language exchange and discussion between students. Power Point slides. Power Point slides must have pictures and/or visual images, and 2) keywords/phrases/sentences so that students of the partner school can understand the presentation contents more easily. PPT slides must be sent to the partner school teacher at least the day before the VC class. Language exchange and discussion (interactive) Guided by the teachers, students will demonstrate to each other the language and social situations of each topic. There will be a greater reliance on live, spontaneous and interactive discussion and less reliance on scripted presentation. The Australian classes are running a compulsory Korean language program, therefore they must use class time for language learning and practice. The Australian classes can make presentations about authentic, natural English use in the Australian setting. Summary. At the end of the VC session, teachers are encouraged to summarize key points learnt in the class. Class format:
■ Checking audio/video qualities and PPt slides (2mins) ■ KOR school’s PPt presentation & AUS school’s Questions (10mins) ■ KOR school’s Questions AUS school’s Questions (10mins) ■ Language exchange and open Discussion, led by teachers & students (15mins): to practice Korean / English in real settings ■ Wrap-up: Teachers summarize key points (3 mins)
