Dear Oakridge Parents,Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year.

Whether your family is new to The Oakridge School or returning for another year, we thank you for entrusting your children to our dedicated team.

Since 1979, the Oakridge faculty has inspired bight, college-bound students to seek excellence in academics, arts, and athletics. This mission, along with the partnerships formed between families and the school, serves as the foundation for a successful Oakridge experience.

I trust you will find this “Guide to Getting Involved” to be a helpful resource. The Oakridge Development Office has created it to inform you of the numerous opportunities for parents to engage in our community while simultaneously partnering with the school. By participating in one or more of these capacities, you will assist the school in achieving its goals and have opportunities to establish important parent networks.

Overview

The Oakridge SchoolThe Oakridge School, established in 1979, is an independent, coeducational, college

preparatory school with a total enrollment of approximately 900 students in the Early Childhood Center (ECC) through grade 12.

Located in Arlington, Texas, The Oakridge School attracts students from thirty-two cities and ten foreign countries. The school, with its dedicated and experienced faculty and a superior academic program emphasizing personal development, aims to provide an education of highest quality to academically qualified students, to motivate each student to perform at his or her maximum potential, and to prepare students for a life of achievement and participation in society.

The Oakridge School is a non-profit institution governed by a Board of Regents. The school is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS) and holds membership in the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).

With the acquisition of forty-seven and a half acres adjacent to the school, Oakridge has embarked on a capital campaign to build a first-class state-of-the-art Athletic Complex and has secured the future for Oakridge at its present location.

Getting Involved

How can you get involved? How can you help?

The answer is two-fold. Every school needs an active parent body in order to thrive. The Oakridge School uses an online registration process for our volunteers in order to make our process more efficient, cost effective and timely. Volunteers register online for all Parents’ Club and school-sponsored volunteer opportunities beginning in the late summer and throughout the school year.

Philanthropy at The Oakridge School begins with the Annual Fund

Gifts from all members of our community are significant to The Oakridge School. They support its mission, people and programs. Your contribution to The Oakridge School Annual Fund is key to the school’s current and future success.

The Oakridge School Annual Fund is the FUNDRAISING PRIORITY and plays a critical role in supporting the needs of the students, the campus and its programs. Super Supper & Auction

Saturday, February 28, 2015Omni Hotel Fort Worth

The Super Supper and Auction has been a part of The Oakridge School since it was founded in 1979. This annual event generates funds for campus improvements and educational enhancements across all grade levels. This gala includes a festive dinner and dancing; online, silent, big board and live auctions; a tuition raffle; and much more. Parents, staff, and friends volunteer time and resources to ensure this evening’s success.

This year’s theme, The Disco Ball, will be more exciting than ever. We will kick off the Online Auction in December and offer a “Free Ride” by raffling 2015-2016 tuition for one student.

As you know, the money raised at the annual Super Supper & Auction is an important factor to the top-notch educational experience we have all come to enjoy and expect as part of the Oakridge tradition. We hope that you will become involved on whatever level you can – donate items to the auctions, join one of the numerous committees and give of your time and talents, reserve tables and seats for the ultimate event, or purchase items on-line. The Oakridge Parents’ Club

The purpose of The Oakridge Parents’ Club is to assist the administration, faculty, staff, and Board of Regents in providing for the educational enrichment of the students; to promote the fellowship of the families and staff of The Oakridge School; and to raise funds to accomplish these objectives.

All Oakridge Parents are encouraged to become members of the Parents’ Club. With a membership of $30, parents not only support the activities of the Oakridge Parents’ Club, but parents receive a wealth of information on volunteer opportunities and events allowing parents social opportunities to meet other parents and support their children.

Because of the support from the Oakridge community last year, the OPC was able to allocate $36,000 to the school for the following:

• Fine Arts Performance Hall improvements including wireless microphone and new curtains

• Oakridge Athletic Complex playground equipment and two benches for concession patio

• Learn 21 space on the second floor of library• Middle School Robotics Lab• Furniture for Upper School Commons• Update playground equipment at the Early Childhood Center• Audio/Visual Equipment for student led productions• Website training for campus departments/staff• Owl Angel Fund Financial Aid• Fund Endowment

The Owl Booster Club

The Oakridge Athletic Booster Club, The Owl Club, is made up of individuals and businesses that support the school’s Athletic Programs. The funds raised are used to supplement existing sports programs and benefit all Oakridge athletes, both girls and boys. A group of dedicated volunteers ensures the Booster Club concession stand is open for home games as a service to our athletes, families and the visiting teams. The Owl Club even has a mobile concession cart providing service to the spectators in the bleachers. The “Spirit Shack” is open at each home football game and proceeds of these sales are used to purchase needed equipment and necessities for our athletic teams and physical education programs.

The Owl Club also provides food, volunteers and/or support for:

• Oakridge Homecoming• Alumni Games Day• Lower School Field Day• Dinners for our teams traveling to out of town games• Dinner for Officials for all the home football games• Meet the Coaches night in the fall• Three (3) Athletic Awards Banquets – fall sports, winter sports and one for spring

sports, each year to honor the participating student athletes. The Owl Club welcomes new members and volunteers. Most importantly, we have great

The Owl Club Golf Classic

The Owl Club Golf ClassicMonday, May 18, 2015Waterchase Golf Club

Two Tee Times: 8:00 am & 1:30 pm

Each spring The Owl Club hosts the annual Oakridge Golf Classic. This fundraising event is an annual tradition at Oakridge and helps raise funds for improvements and additions to the athletic programs at the school.

Proceeds from the tournament go to The Owl Booster Club to pay for equipment such as bleachers, scoring tables, goal posts and other items. Because of the success of last year’s tournament, the Booster Club was able to make improvements to the baseball and basketball programs and support the Oakridge Athletic Complex campaign as well as The Oakridge School Endowment fund.

The tournament gives parents and friends of the school an opportunity to support the athletic department, as well as have a good time. Many golfers enjoy a relaxing day of golf, while others are very competitive - hoping for a 1st place win and the chance to have their name engraved on the prestigious Broadus Cup! The event concludes with an Awards Ceremony, dinner and prizes.

The Oakridge Athletic Complex

THE OAKRIDGE ATHLETIC COMPLEXThis is an exciting time in the history of our school. Amazing things have happened

when the Oakridge community has worked together for the good of the children and the mission of the School. In 2011, the Board of Regents adopted a new strategic plan which included a continued commitment to the ongoing development of the Oakridge Athletic Complex. The next phase of the Complex development will be the construction of the new baseball and softball complex which will be built east of the tennis courts. We are embarking on an exciting campaign to “FINISH THE FRONT” and we are counting on YOU for your philanthropic investment!

FINISH THE FRONT CAMPAIGN DETAILSA total investment of approximately $3 million will be required to construct the Baseball/

Softball Complex. The project will include fully equipped baseball and softball facilities and an additional concession stand building with restrooms that will serve both the Tennis Center and the Baseball and Softball Complex. This phase will also include the construction of significant infrastructure consisting of the extension of the utilities: water, sewer, and electricity; the main east and west road with additional parking; an eastern entrance off Pioneer Parkway; and pedestrian walkways.
