PEF transforms public education in Hamilton County schools to

impact the lives of students, and the city we call home.

For over 25 years, we have leveraged strong community partnerships and relationships with

school leaders, teachers, and students to drive transformation in our public schools.

Our aim is that the next 25 years and beyond will bring profound change to Chattanooga. It’s only

together that we continue to rise, in our schools, and in our city.

three avenues of changeWe focus on 3 ways to empower educators to be agents of change in our schools:

Leadership Pipeline

The Leadership Pipeline supports aspiring leaders and new and veteran principals in Hamilton

County schools. The goal of the pipeline is to create systemic change in school-level leadership

through support for all aspiring leaders and principals. The Leadership Pipeline includes:

Leadership Fellows

Year-long program designed to give emerging school leaders in Hamilton County the skills and

knowledge needed to participate in decision-making and school improvement.

the leadership pipeline supports educators to create system-wide impact.

Principal Leadership Academy

Prepares assistant principals to take over the job principal through an intensive year- long

training program. HCDE, PEF, the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, and UTC are partners.

New Principal Support

All first, second, and third year

principals in the school district receive

ongoing, real-time, intensive coaching

from a successful, retired principal.

Principal and Assistant Principal Networks

Led by HCDE, these ongoing learning network meetings focus on the ability of assistant principals

to impact teaching and learning with a focus on quality instruction and the school structures

needed to support an environment of improvement and innovation.

the Principal Leadership Academy has graduated 52 aspiring principals

nearly half of these graduates have served in a Hamilton County school

in Vanderbilt University’s recent evaluation of the pipeline, almost all new principals said:

in a recent external evaluation conducted by Vanderbilt University, assistant principals and principals asked for even more opportunities for network meetings to learn from each other

teacher leadership: great teachers make the greatest impact

Leadership Fellows

The most effective way to increase student learning is to improve teachers. This year-long program

focuses on instructional leadership. In a survey of over 1,000 HCDE educators, Leadership Fellows

was cited more often than any other learning opportunity as positively impacting careers.

Teacherpreneur Incubator

We are devoted to bringing teachers and community members together to launch transformative

ideas. Teacherpreneur offers teachers support, time and space to incubate big ideas and execute

them in the best interests of their students, schools, community, and their profession.

in the inaugural year, 28 individuals and teams of teachers pitched their ideas

15 ideas were funded for a total of $100,000, including a Maker Space in an urban school, a student leadership Think Tank, and a virtual book club

support to six schools around creating technology-infused learning environments which

empower students to be critical-thinkers, collaborators, innovators, and self-sufficient learners.

iPLCThe iProfessional Learning Community is a monthly collaborative network designed to help

teachers use technology in the classroom in authentic and effective ways.

Dev DevConnects teachers and industry professionals to

ensure all students have access, opportunity and

equity to become digitally literate.

Fund for Teachers

Through this partnership, PEF offers teachers fellowships to travel in the U.S. or across the globe in

search of cultural enrichment, new teaching methods and fun and exciting ideas for the classroom.

Project Inspire STEM Teacher Residency

Project Inspire residents work alongside veteran educators while simultaneously earning their

Master’s degree and teaching license. A year later, they’re ready to take on a four-year commitment

in a high needs school.

Southeast Tennessee STEM Innovation Hub

The STEM Hub has successfully launched over 10 initiatives designed to disseminate innovative

teaching practices and accelerate STEM learning in schools and communities throughout

southeast Tennessee.
