Implant overdenture therapy has enhanced the quality of life for fully edentulous patients significantly. The rapid
increase of the aging population and fully edentulous patients has placed the implant overdenture at the forefront of
implant dentistry. However, achieving a long-term cost-effective successful treatment outcome requires complete
understanding of different treatment plans and designs. Both surgeons and restorative dentists should know about the
principles of attachment assembly design supported by traditional implants, as well as treatment guidelines for treating
patients with specially designed overdenture implants. Incorporating this treatment modality in everyday practice has
become a necessary rather than optional treatment.
Points of Discussion:
• The relationship between numbers and the location of traditional implants and each attachment assembly
design in mandibular and maxillary cases
• Case design criteria for an implant-supported overdenture based on height, width and quality of available
bone, as well as level of desirable resiliency
• Treatment guideline for immediate load or delayed load overdenture therapy utilizing two-piece Locator
Overdenture Implant
• Suitable occlusal scheme for Implant Overdenture therapy
• Case plan design and device choices to make today’s treatment options less invasive and more affordable
for the patient
• Risk management and trouble-shooting

This course is designed to teach general practitioners about rhBMP-2 and associated bone grafting techniques. Many
general practitioners are still unaware of the new developments in hard tissue engineering utilizing biologics. BMPs
now enable practitioners to perform bone graft procedures without relying on aggressive irreversible techniques,
such as onlay block grafts. Sparing patients from a secondary surgical site can often lead to an increase in implant
case acceptance. Implant site development has now become a crucial aspect of treatment planning for all general
practitioners who want to stay competitive in the dynamic implant market.
Points of Discussion:
• Overview of BMPs and their mechanism of action
• Specific indications and dosing
• Use of supporting grafting materials
• Application techniques and principles
• Avoiding the pitfalls of BMP
• Discussion of BMP complications and their management

Treatment planning is the most important aspect of implant dentistry. Radiography is a vital part of the planning
process and new technology has made this planning process much more accurate.
2-dimensional (2D) images have inherent limitations that can result in incorrect and/or incomplete diagnosis and
treatment planning. Using a 2D image will increase the risk factor of violating opposing anatomical landmarks near the
implant site. Cone Beam CT technology has brought the power of 3-dimensional (3D) imaging to the dental office.
With the rapid growth of 3D Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), dentists now have tools available for more
accurate diagnosis and treatment. CT-Guided dental implant planning and surgical techniques are far superior to
traditional 2-dimensional imaging and “freehand” placement of dental implants. This results in a less invasive surgical
procedure, minimizes surgical risk factors by having awareness of anatomical challenges ahead of time, increases
precision of implant placement, reduces surgical time, and enhances patient recovery.
Points of Discussion:
• Understand the basic fundamentals and application of cone-beam CT
• Identify clinically significant anatomy and pathology
• Discuss the shortcomings of traditional implant planning and surgical guides
• Introduce 3D CT volumetric implant treatment planning
• Identify the hardware and software component variables in applying CT technology
• Make practical choices for implementing CT in private practice
Hands-On Training:
Selected implant planning cases will be provided to demonstrate application of the above fundamentals with
emphasis on visualization strategies and radiologic interpretation.
Course attendees will also beam provided sample cases to demonstrate their understanding and proficiency
and to simulate guided navigation virtually. Participants will have the opportunity to see and observe opera-
tion of an onsite CBCT unit at the Institute.

Lean management is an innovative system designed to enhance productivity by eliminating waste. The current implant
practice model offers many opportunities for improving efficiency. Implementation of lean thinking in an implant practice
will drastically reduce the non-value adding activities between processes, which will lead to higher quality services,
shorter waiting times, lower overhead costs for the practice, fewer errors in documentation, as well as healthy stress-
free work environments for surgeons and their staff.
In this course, surgeons/implantologists will learn a framework to diagnose, improve and design effective and efficient
operational systems within their implant practice. This framework will help them identify leverage points with the
greatest impact on their bottom line.
Points of Discussion:
• Introduction to why lean methodology should be used in an implant practice
• Description of key lean methods and tools
• Analysis of cost management approach versus traditional revenue management
• Explanation of how to establish a thriving implant practice, particularly by reducing the cost of
the average patient visit and general overhead
• Examples of application of lean concepts in specific focus areas
• Recommendations of key metrics for each focus area
• Case studies of lean improvements within the oral surgery and implant practice
• Discussion of how to integrate lean into surgical and prosthetic best practices
Hands-On Training:
Participants will understand the lean principles using a simulation. Within small teams, participants will op-
timize a test environment from a classical Push approach to a Pull and Flow oriented system to experience
the impact of lean principles.

Typically, surgeons use surgical burs during conventional oral and maxillofacial or implant surgeries to cut or split
the bone. No matter how accurate a surgeon can be, there is always the risk of damaging the surrounding soft
tissue and opposing anatomical landmarks such as inferior alveolar nerve or Schneiderian membrane in maxillary
sinuses. Piezosurgery is one of the newest technologies for cutting bone. The Piezosurgery unit generates ultrasonic
microvibrations, which is only effective on bone but it has no effect on the surrounding soft tissues such as nerves,
periosteum or the Schneiderian membrane of the maxillary sinus. Because of its highly selective and accurate nature,
it is an ideal technology for implant site preparation, sinus lift and ridge split surgeries. In addition, piezosurgery
reduces the healing time of the patient to a great extent.
Points of Discussion:
• Historical background of the ultrasonic bone surgery
• Indications in oral & maxillofacial surgery
• Specific applications in implant dentistry
• Advantages of piezosurgery technique compared to conventional surgical methods
• Surgical steps for implant site preparation, sinus lift technique and ridge expansion technique
• Harvesting of bone block and autogenous bone chips utilizing piezoelectric technology
• Identifying and minimizing risk and failure
• Post-surgical care and evaluation
Hands-On Training:
Participants will have the opportunity to use the piezosurgery unit, perform bone surgery procedures and
gain access to the Schneiderian membrane by performing piezosurgery.

Successful oral rehabilitation often requires hard and soft tissue regeneration for optimal functional and esthetic
outcomes. As implant dentistry evolves to become the standard of care, education on the maintenance of bone and
soft tissue after tooth extraction is essential. Today’s clinicians are achieving predictable results by grafting extraction
sockets for ridge preservation, utilizing the latest membranes and bone scaffolds. Socket grafting following tooth
removal is proven to reduce bone loss, maintain ridge proportion, enhance esthetic and post-operative outcomes, and
satisfy patient expectations.
This course will review practical application of extraction socket grafting and ridge preservation. Clinical experience and
scientific evidence will be presented to support the materials and techniques demonstrated. This course will provide
you with the knowledge and skills to successfully incorporate new procedures into your daily practice with confidence
and predictability. Following the presentation a hands-on workshop will be provided where you will perform the surgical
procedures discussed on special models designed to simulate actual clinical conditions.
Points of Discussion:
• Rationale for socket and ridge preservation procedures
• Examination of donor sources available for hard tissue for dental procedures and their
advantages/disadvantages
• Principles of successful hard tissue augmentation
• Minimally invasive surgical techniques
• Microsurgical instrumentation and specialized suturing techniques
• Socket grafting for predictable implant placement
• Particulate bone grafting for ridge augmentation
• Management of complications
• Timing of implant placement-immediate versus delayed
• Implant surface design
• Current clinical research findings

The predictability of dental implants using the traditional Branemark two-stage protocol has been well-documented.
However, prolonged treatment time and multiple surgeries have been disadvantages of this protocol. Managing ideal
esthetic in the anterior region is an additional challenge for clinicians who are using two-stage protocol.
Today, immediate loaded implant treatment modality can be considered a viable option, which decreases treatment
time, minimizes the number of surgical procedures, and maximizes esthetic outcomes.
Clinicians and researchers have documented that the immediate loading of implants placed in the esthetic zone is a
very reliable treatment option to preserve the ideal gingival architecture, in addition to all of the benefits of immediate
implant therapy. Immediate load protocol has been developed after introducing the new generation of dental implants,
which have suitable geometry and topography for immediate therapy by major implant companies.
The advantages of immediate restoration are obvious; however, the application of immediate or early load may pose
an increased risk of implant failure in single-tooth situations if clinicians are not familiar with the prerequisites for
achieving and maintaining acceptable treatment outcome.
Points of Discussion:
• Case selection criteria of immediate implant placement and loading in the esthetic zone
• Modified surgical techniques for immediate implant placement
• Prosthetic steps for fabricating same-day transitional crowns
• Bone grafting techniques and materials in conjunction with immediate implant placement
