Page 44 Global Awareness & Travel Pathway global awareness “We’re proud to say that we worked together to plan until we couldn’t plan anymore,” said Erin Chant, Girl Scout Ambassador and member of the Girls’ World Forum Girl Planning Team. “We discussed, sometimes we argued, and we worked on it until even the smallest of details was covered.”  In March 2011, 18 local teens began work to develop, organize and host the Girls’ World Forum, an event for Girl Scouts and Girl Guides from 80 countries and 86 US councils. The delegations spent the week of July 12 - 16 discussing three UN Millennium Development Goals that focused on ending extreme poverty, promoting environmental sustain- ability and establishing gender equity. Forum workshops also focused on self-esteem, advocacy and other issues facing teen girls today. Each delegation, made up of two girls and a young adult chaperone, worked together throughout the week to build a “Take Action” plan for their return home. Many of the attend- ees used this international gathering of to collaborate with young women from other countries and communities so they could take action together. While they were busy finding solutions to some of the most trying issues facing our world today, the girls did not miss the opportunity to make global connections that could last a lifetime, learning some- thing in the process. “The first day of this international forum was nothing less than amazing,” Begin exploring the world with adventures in your own backyard. said Mandy Ehlert, also a member of the Girl Planning Team. “I was blown away by the incredible interactions between delegates from across the planet!” Attendees spent the week sharing their cultures with each other.
