Schools are in an ideal position to model sustainability practices that informand influence the broader community. A school can be the catalyst for the
social change that sustainable development calls for. Sustainability Learning
is likely to be far more effective and supportive when the school as a whole
adopts the Compass of Sustainability, develops its own vision for a
sustainable future, and assumes the responsibility for realizing that vision and
modeling education for a sustainable future. Within the classroom, using the
Compass becomes a habit of mind both for yourself and the students you
teach or work with, and as such is consciousness-raising and potentially
transforming.
This workshop will be hosted by Traidhos Three Generation Community for
Learning and Prem Tinsulanonda International School, where Compass
tools have been an asset in organizing, coordinating, articulating and guiding
vision, goals and actions amongst many departments. PTIS will provide us a
working model of Compass application, giving participants the chance to use
the Compass for interviewing key stakeholders, guiding and recording
observations, focusing discussion and providing a framework for whole school
sustainability assessment and planning.

interact in ways that shape the priorities and needs of people at all levels. You will explore how to
implement systems theory and systems thinking approaches in such a way that invites learning and
change at all three levels.
Learning How to Accelerate Institutional Change The AMOEBA is a user-friendly tool that helps
people understand organizational and cultural change process, plan for the introduction of new ideas
into organizational systems, or block undesirable changes.
Experience Sustainability Culture of Traidhos and PTIS This integrative program will provide
participants with opportunity to use and experience the Compass School tools in the context of an

As a former primary teacher, the idea of connecting areas of knowledge was attractive
and the visual links that the compass tool made possible exciting. Now as President at
Traidhos Three Generation Community for Learning, Lynda is part of a group looking
at ways to create a more sustainable campus and work force, while experimenting
with different ways of using Compass in the environmental education setting.
