    BBAACCKKGGRROOUUNNDD--On August 6, 1974, the DuSable Museum held its first

    Art Festival just one year after the museum moved to

    its present location in Washington Park. Eight artistsparticipated that year! Key amongst them wereMargaret Burroughs and Sophie Wessel, who came up

    with the idea to organize this event which now eachyear hosts nearly 200 artists and crafts people.

    Today, the festival is known as the DuSable MuseumsArts and Crafts Festival and is in its thirty-ninth year.The Festival is a showcase for local artists, anexhibition of fine art and unique and hand-crafted

    work which features artists working in traditional,ethnic and experimental fine arts and crafts that relate

    to African-American themes, identity, history andculture, and underscores our mission of preserving thehistory and culture of the African-American experience. We also celebrate Dr. Margaret Burroughs (1915-2010), Founderof the DuSable Museum of African American History.

    RRUULLEESS AANNDDSSTTAANNDDAARRDDSS1. Registration is final. NNOO RREEFFUUNNDDSS. There will be no refunds due to bad weather.2. Participant will abide by loading and unloading procedures as prescribed and provided by DuSable Museum. No

    parking on the streets or sidewalks at any time. No loading, unloading, set up or tear down from the streets orsidewalks. The city has strict requirements: participants further agree to park only in authorized areas as assigned byDuSable Museum.

    3. Booths may be left up overnight but at the sole risk and responsibility of the participant. All products should beremoved from booths left overnight. Overnight security will be provided.

    4. Participant agrees to set up booth within restricted boundaries set forth by DuSable Museum. Chairs and portabledisplay items may not extend beyond the booth boundaries. Participant must provide booth, props for display, andcover in case of bad weather (i.e. rain, wind, extreme heat).

    5. All products sold by participant must be handcrafted by the participant. Embellished objects, imported or productionwork is not acceptable. No manufactured work or work from commercial kits or molds. DuSable Museum reservesthe right to ask that questionable items be removed and/or that the participant leave the show.

    6. Artists may only show work in categories submitted. Artists accepted in the jewelry category may exhibit only jewelry.Reproductions must be labeled Reproduction and are not to exceed 40% of all work in the booth. In the case ofPhotographers & Printmakers, 60% of the work displayed must be gallery quality framed work.

    7. A booth must be used by those who register for it, and must be used both days. No portion of your booth may besublet or shared with another person. If two people collaborate to produce original work, each person must beidentified on the application and present at the festival. No work by employees or apprentices will be accepted..TTHHEE

    AARRTTIISSTT((SS)) MMUUSSTT BBEE PPRREESSEENNTT AATT TTHHEE FFEESSTTIIVVAALL BBOOTTHH DDAAYYSS..8. No blue poly tarps shall be used in your booth. Unpainted materials (pegboard, plywood, raw building lumber) will

    not be permitted. Booths must be pre-built and assembled on site.9. Your booth must have sides and a back. Do not depend on your neighbors booth to form your back and side

    boundaries. Rusted or well worn galvanized pipe booths must have pipes covered with fabric covers.10. If your booth is located along the sidewalks of Payne Drive (food vendors and public information participants), the

    city prohibits displaying from the backside of your booth.11. No pets allowed.12. Electricity is not provided.

    To unload, use Payne Dr. (west of DuSable Museum) or Cottage Grove (east of DuSable Museum). Street parking (Cottage Grove Avenue and 57th Street) is on a 1st come, 1st served basis. Parking on Payne Drive will

    be coordinated by DuSable Museum Security, but will have limited parking for vendors. Please do not drive on grass, DuSable Museum Security personnel will direct you should you need to drive onto the

    museum grounds. Upon receipt of your booth numbers, you may go directly to your designated area and unload. DuSable Museum staff

    & volunteers will be available to assist you.

    CCHHEECCKKIINNSSAATTUURRDDAAYY

    Check in officially begins at 7:30 am.The Festival Manager will complete a final walk through.All set ups must be complete by 12:00 noon.

    BBRREEAAKKIINNGGDDOOWWNN

    You may break down no earlier than 7:00 pm, but must be completed by 9:00 pm.A license bonded security service will be provided for Saturday night. Remember to inventory your work.

    You may break down your space beginning at 7:00 pm.You must be completely packed and ready to exit the museum grounds by 9:30 pm.

    SSPPAACCEESS

    Booth spaces cannot be shared, nor can they be resold. ID tags must be worn and displayed on booth at all times. Participation on both days is required. Failure to appear or to set up booth space in a timely manner, due to an act-of God will not affect future participation.Artists will provide all tables, chairs, tents, easels and coverings for inclement weather, etc. NO REFUNDS will be given and SPACES cannot be reassigned. Booths are to be kept attractive and clean throughout the weekend, adding to the aesthetic of the festival. BBEE RREESSPPEECCTTFFUULL OOFF YYOOUURRNNEEIIGGHHBBOORRSS SSPPAACCEE.

    EETTCC..AARRTTIISSTTSS//VVEENNDDOORRSS are not allowed to sell any food or beverages from their booths, nor have anyone acting on their

    behalf walking around and selling to other vendors. There will be Food Vendors at the festival. LLOOUUDDMMUUSSIICC IISSPPRROOHHIIBBIITTEEDD. You will be asked to leave the festival if you play loud music. There is entertainment

    and music throughout the two-day festival
