    Dear L.A. Community,

    .

Yours Sincerely,Andy, FUNG Wa-chauPrincipalELCHK Lutheran Academy

March has been another action-packed month for the LA community.

The secondary students went to Global Classroom at the beginning of the month, with experiential learning taking place at the Multiple Intelligence Training in Hong Kong, service learning in Cambodia and language and Food Technology study in France. I am very much looking forward to the showcase to find out what they have learned!

Moreover, I had been eagerly counting the days till the end of the month. As Rev. YEUNG mentioned in his speech, ELCHK responded to the EDB’s calling for quality education by establishing a through-train DSS school. From having first conceived the idea of Lutheran Acade-my, it took 15 years in the making. The joy to see that the Grand Open-ing has finally come is unspeakable. We were overwhelmed to receive so many honourable guests and faithful parents on the day, and I hope they have enjoyed the programme and got to know the school more.

I wish you all a lovely Easter Holiday.

  • School NewsHKSSF Inter-school badminton competition Feb and Mar 2014

February and March are exciting months with a series of HKSSF inter-school badminton competi-tions. In this year, we have formed the boys and girls team in both B and C Grade (4 teams in total). Students have given their greatest effort in the games and we have gained a lot of experiences through the competition.

For the B Grade Girls team, they have made a remarkable record and achieved the 4th place out of 16 teams. Thank you to all members in the badminton team, well done! Also, thanks should be given to all students and parents who have shown their support during the games with wonderful cheering. Special thanks to Mr. WAN for helping with the coaching as well.

The Boy’s B grade football team dominated the match, and cruised through a convincing 3:0 victory in the finals to claim top spot in the district.

Out of the 32 participating schools, our boys were unde-feated and did not concede a single goal in the knockout stages of the tournament, demonstrating skill, dedica-tion and solid teamwork in the remarkable feat.

Congratulations to the boys and a big thank you to Mr. Keith LAW and the supportive parents. LA is proud of you!

Champion of the Yuen Long District!

Our B Grade Boys table tennis team competed over the weekend of March 22 & 30 at Ping Shan Tin Shui Wai Sports center in the annual HKSSF inter-school table tennis competition. Our boys have done very well and eventually came second in the competition (amongst 32 schools).

Ours boys did a great job in the semi-final where they were down by 1:2 and pulled together a strong came back to beat the opponent 3:2. In the final, we came up against a better team but our boys tried their very best to stay in the match.

Congratulations to all team members for your efforts and commitment over the weekend. Thanks also go to the parents and the coach Mr. LAU for their continu-ous support, as well as the teachers who supported the team over both weekends.

  • School ActivitiesParents’ Day 13 to 14 Mar 2014

After half the year’s teaching and learning, parents were invited to share the fruits of their chil-dren, all condensed and reflected in each student’s report.

It is a valuable opportunity for parents and teachers to know a bit more about how the students is doing, and to work as partners to bring out the best of LA students.

  • School ActivitiesGrand Opening 28 Mar 2014

The long-awaited Grand Opening Ceremony, plus the fact that we are now an authorised IB World School, marks an important milestone for the development of the school. We were hon-oured to have prominent educators in Hong Kong, partner schools, as well as parents to share the joy with us.

  • Road Traffic Seminar 8 March 2014

As the school grows, the increasingly busy traffic conditions on Lam Hau Tsuen Road during rush hour have brought some safety concerns to our students and parents.

In the meeting, parents and staff representatives shared their concerns on the ongoing traffic issue and discussed various possible solutions to ease congestion. As a result of better aware-ness, we have seen a marked improvement on parking outside the front gate, as well as im-proved road safety.

Thank you to all the parents who have helped make contributions to the improvement. More consultative meetings will be held later in the year to further reduce the volume of traffic out-side the school.

    Workshop & SeminarRecruitment Workshop 15 March 2014

Following last months’ recruitment seminar, potential teachers are invited back for more IB-style collaboration and team challenges.

Apart from local talents, and Principal Fung and Deputy Principal Ms. Noel will also go to the UK to seek educators with international teaching experience.
