We look forward to having Dean Grant lead Jorgensen and the School of Fine Arts into the future, and hope you will take the opportunity to welcome her at one of our many upcoming performances.

“Her background and talent are of the highest caliber and we’re thrilled that she will be she joining us. And given her heritage and life spent outside the U.S., she will also bring an international vision and sensibility to the UConn leadership team. I believe she will be a dynamic, bold leader for the School in the coming years.” – UConn President Susan Herbst

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Dear Friends,

In with the old… and in with the new! That’s the theme for our 2012/2013 Season at Jorgensen. While you’ve been busy with your summer plans, we’ve been busier than ever planning a new season featuring some incredible artists and ensembles that have graced the Jorgensen stage in the recent and the distant past, as well as some of the brightest new entertainers on the horizon. Whether your interest lies with the old or the new, our impressive 2012/2013 Season line-up is sure to include many favorites that you would love to see again, or for the very first time.

And speaking of new… we’re delighted to welcome Brid Grant, the new dean of the University of Connecticut’s School of Fine Arts. A pianist by training with a long career in higher education in Ireland, Brid Grant is the former Dean and Director of the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) College of Arts

format has been discontinued due to financial consideration. In addition, except for the Popovich Pet Theater, the 1 and 3 pm Children’s Series events have been combined into a single 2 pm performance.

What hasn’t changed is the fact that Jorgensen is still presenting top quality entertainment at the most competitive prices in the state. It’s no wonder that Jorgensen was recently named the Best College/University Performing Arts Center by the Hartford Advocate Best of Hartford Readers’ Poll for 2012.

So come on out and join us as we celebrate the best of the old… and the new.

Sincerely,

magnetic vocalists bring their unique blend of tight harmonies and slick dance moves to your favorite Doo-Wop, Motown, and old time Rock ‘n’ Roll hits from The Drifters, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Four Seasons, and more. Exuding the irresistible rapport of a modern day Rat Pack, Under the Streetlamp proves why retro never sounded so now!

PILOBOLUSPilobolus amazes audiences by blending gymnastics, dance, striking imagery, and humor with a dance vocabulary all its own. Their dreamy choreography often blurs the lines between individual dancers, creating an illusion of one undulating being, and a world where “acrobatics are liquefied into poetry” (The New York Times). Their Jorgensen performance will feature both new and classic works for an evening of dance that promises to be both thrilling and fun.

Renowned Polish conductor, Antoni Wit will then lead Poland’s leading orchestra in Dvořák’s tuneful and sunny Symphony No. 8, which is nearest in spirit to his colorful Slavonic Dances.
