Zumba Gold Want to try Zumba? This class is for the active ‘slightly older’ adult who is looking for a great fitness program in a fun, relaxed atmosphere, or students just starting their journey to a fit and healthy lifestyle. The class will contain all the elements the Zumba Fitness-Party is known for: the zesty Latin music, like salsa, merengue, cumbia and reggaeton; the exhilarating, easy-to-follow moves; and the invigorat-ing, party-like atmosphere. It’s a dance-fitness class that feels friendly, and most of all, fun. Led by our famous McMaster employee, Sheilah Laffan, winner of the 2011 Healthy Workplace Ambassador Award, the class addresses the anatomical, physiological and psychological needs specific to this population. You will love the enthusiasm Sheilah brings and her ‘fitness for life’ approach.

BODY COMPOSITION TESTFast and accurate determination of fat and fat-free mass by means of air displace-ment (BOD POD). The simple test consists of measuring a person’s body mass, using a very accurate electronic scale, and body volume, which is determined by sitting inside the BOD POD chamber. The BOD POD also provides information on resting metabolic rate and an estimate of a person’s daily energy (calorie) require-ment. Fee: $58 (including hst)

MAXIMAL AEROBIC POWER OR VO2MAX TESTMaximal Oxygen Uptake: Determination of the maximal amount of oxygen that can be utilized by the body (VO2max), which is considered the “gold standard” measure of cardiorespiratory fitness. It is the most commonly used test of perfor-mance for athletes who compete in endurance sports (e.g., running, cycling). The test involves exercising at progressively higher workloads on a stationary cycle or treadmill while breath samples are collected through a mouthpiece. A VO2max test also provides information regarding your anacrobic threshold and your maxi-mal heart rate. Fee: $130 (including hst)

SUB-MAXIMAL CARDIORESPIRATORY TESTINGAstrand Test of Aerobic Fitness: Prediction of maximal oxygen uptake based on the heart rate response to a submaximal exercise test. The Astrand Test is depen-dent on several assumptions and is not as precise as the direct measurement of VO2max. However, it provides a reasonably accurate reflection of an individual’s fitness at a lower cost and reduced risk, and requires less time and effort on the part of the subject.Fee: $79 (including hst)

WINGATE TESTDetermination of maximal power output during a 30 second “all out” sprint on a specialized cycle ergometer. The Wingate Test is extremely demanding and maxi-mally stresses the body’s aerobic and anaerobic energy systems. It is the most commonly used test of performance for athletes who compete in strength/power sports, or those who perform short repeated bursts of activity (e.g., hockey, rugby, soccer). Fee: $53 (including hst)
