About DowlingFounded in 1955 as part of Adelphi University’s Suffolk Campus, the college purchased the former W.K. Vanderbilt estate in Oakdale in 1962. In 1968 the college was renamed after its chief benefactor, Robert Dowling, a noted city planner and aviator.

Situated on the banks of the Connetquot River on a former Vanderbilt estate, Dowling’s Rudolph Cam-pus in Oakdale is among the nation’s most beautiful. The 105-acre Brookhaven Center is located on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley and features high-tech learning facilities for a broad range of under-graduate and graduate courses. Located within walking distance to the Long Island Rail Road and fea-turing free parking and shuttle bus service, Dowling is easily accessible from both Suffolk and Nassau counties, as well as the five boroughs of New York City.
