Hilton Hotel - EIFS Façade Failure from Hurricane Ike

EIFS was installed via a “panelized” system.

Several panels blown off during hurricane; others were dislodged.

Insured’s Consultant recommended replacement of entire façade.

Thornton Tomasetti recommended an invasive investigation to determine the extent of the issues.

Investigation was jointly performed, and revealed limited number of dislodged panels.

Minimal areas of the façade were replaced.

Water Intrusion Event below Roof Membrane

Building was under construction; nearing completion.

Testing of roof drain riser pipes resulted in water intrusion below roof membrane.

Roof membrane installation not yet complete; also damaged from construction traffic.

Thornton Tomasetti performed invasive and noninvasive testing to separate damage from water intrusion event vs. damage from pre-existing conditions.

Investigation utilized moisture meters, infrared thermography, and core cuts.

Model used to differentiate between wind versus water damage.

Each room was “linked” to photographs, damage reports, lists of contents, and cost estimates.

Our work minimized the disputed areas of the claim and moved the parties toward a settlement.

Sam Houston Race Park – Hurricane Ike Damage

Multidisciplinary review of all buildings and structures at the race park to document hurricane damage.

Thornton Tomasetti’s in-house team consisted of architects, structural engineers, and electrical engineers.

Team’s size and ability to quickly mobilize allowed the on-site review to be completed within two weeks.

Our work reduced the potential BI claim and returned the race park to full functionality quickly.
