The weekend kicked off with the Howl-o-ween party on Saturday. Club members and dogs dressed up in complementary costumes and competed for prizes. of the newsletter, the board is meeting to vote on that membershiponly. Because our bylaws dictate the process of publishing members

in the newsletter and allowing 30 days after publication for member comments, we could not vote on thisapplication in the October board meeting. A special board meeting means there is only one agenda itemand all normal reports are not applicable.

Speaking of board meetings, the board met in October and we accomplished a great deal. At this time ofyear there are so many items requiring our attention (event dates and chairs for instance), that we bookeda follow-up meeting for December 1 in Kenosha, WI. At that meeting, we will address finalizing the calen-dar for 2012. Our by-laws state we must have a quarterly membership and board meetings, nominatingcommittee for officers and many other tasks. We try to avoid conflicts wherever possible but sometimeswe bump up against other member priorities. Once we have completed those tasks, we will publish the2012 calendar of events and give a summary of all appointed committee chairs.

Some of you greatly enjoyed the winter walk held at my house this year. Because of other commitments,I cannot do this again for 2012. If you would like to volunteer to chair this event (find a place and space)for a nice relaxing walk, please let me or anyone on the board know before the December 1st meeting.

Wishing you and your two and four legged families a very happy Thanksgiving, December holidays, and ahappy Newf Year!

North Central Newfoundland ClubTwo-day Water Test, September 17 & 18, 2011

If you didn’t get out to this year’s water test, you missed a wonderful event. This was our third year at the Muskego County Park, Muskego, Wisconsin water test site and our first two-day test. The site is private with a heated shelter for banquet and meals just steps from the beach with camping on the premises. The water is clean and clear. Our weather was cool; the coolest, some would say coldest day, of the summer.

Our judges, Sandee and Mike Lovett, two of the most knowledgeable judges in the NCA, worked to make exhibitors feel comfortable and confident. Judges, committee, and stewards worked together to make this a fun experience for all involved. There was lots of cheering from spectators, exhibitors, judges and stewards.

On Saturday, no junior entrants qualified, one senior entrant qualified as did one senior requalifier. On Sunday, three junior entrants, one senior entrant and one senior requalifier earned titles.

We are very blessed as a club to have so many willing to volunteer and contribute their time to make these events possible and successful. Sadly, this is this committees last water test as the NCNC Board choose not to reappoint this group for another year. It has been a joy and a priviledge to put events such as this together for the past 10 years. Thank you all for being so dedicated to this breed and willing to help others!

Partnering with the OFA, the NCA has launched an online comprehensive breedhealth survey. The purpose of this survey is to confidentially gather data whichwill provide a current base of statistics for making decisions to address diseasesand other health issues which are occurring in the Newfoundland breed.

The Charitable Trust Management Board (CTMB), Research Advisory Committee and Health andLongevity Committee worked together with the OFA to craft this scientific survey based on theonline survey results contributed by over 1000 Newfoundland owners in 2010.

The CTMB is charged with reviewing proposed studies through the Research Advisory Committeeand also funding those studies beneficial to the Newfoundland with funds raised throughNewfoundland Health Challenge. The future health of our breed depends on early identification ofhealth problems and then funding research in those specific areas. Your input is vital to insuringthat our health and research dollars are spent wisely. Thank you for taking this survey!
