hobbies to mine. Auburn will definitely be a great school.”

“One thing I like a lot is how much work the teachers put into making our days

“I feel like the whole trajectory of her life (and our whole family’s) has moved

in a very positive direction since September.”

“He is alert, happy and engaged—no dragging or slumping, something that happened

through most of his previous school year. In a word, ‘Yay!’”

“Just when I thought that he would give *on his homework+ up in frustration, he said, ‘Mom, I’ve got it.

I don’t need your help anymore.’ The result was, I think, really terrific. He totally got it!”

Enrichment Activities

Teacher Enrichment takes place as professional development

throughout the year. Beginning with a two week summer institute for

all staff, our teachers are initiated in the “Auburn Way.” Our rigorous

training in August included Great Books, Understanding by Design,

CPR/First Aid, Curriculum Design/Planning, Authentic Assessment

and Collaborative Design.

Further training through the school year included Arts Integration

with Dr. Barbosa, a Social Thinking and Social Learning Workshop led

by Michelle Garcia Winner, as well as our weekly Wednesday

collaborative reflective inquiry, development of Compass documents,

student study team meetings, and perspective integration in the

curriculum.

Clear and consistent communication with parents is essential in any

school environment, but at Auburn we see it as uniquely central to

our mission. The communication skills and strategies we work on

each day are relevant at home in a way that math and science skills

often are not. We strive to keep you as well informed as we can

about what we are doing in the classroom so that improvement at

school translates to improvement at home. Similarly, we want to

keep open lines of communication from the home so that we can

accommodate and be prepared for changes at home that may affect

your children in school.
