December 2011
Is it really that time already?
This past year has flown by, and like most of
you, I find myself thinking back on all the things
that have changed in the last 12 months. The
biggest change for me was made by all of YOU!
Your support and feedback allowed me to grow
and accomplish things I never thought possible.
I hope that all of you got back from the Club as
much as you gave. That was the goal! This year
was meant to be all about YOU…the members.
Our circle is expanding and I am excited to see
what next year will bring. You have a lot to look
forward to with our new Board of Directors.
Debb Porath is going to make a Great President
and I’m sure her Board is going to plant a lot of
educational seeds in 2012.
You, as members, are really what this is all
about. You are the ones who determine what is
happening in our club; from the guest speakers
and field trips to how and where our business is
handled. Your opinions and ideas matter! Take
this opportunity to get involved; you have the
added bonus this upcoming year of learning
about and participating in the planning of a
Regional Meeting. It will be an experience you
will never forget and never regret!
Thank you for making this year GREAT for me! I
will cherish my memories always!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank
the 2011 Board Members – Roseline Cyr, Debb
Porath, Theresa Schultz, Linda Wright, Marilyn
Carter, Linda Topolinsky and Mary Alice Rooney,
Ronda Cornell and Brigitte Shaw, Tracy Fillmore,
Sharon Grocutt and Sharon McClare. You all
embraced the Circle and worked hard to make
our meetings so successful.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of
you! May next year be all that you want it to
be. You all deserve it!

Question of the Month
Congratulations to Sharon McClare for
answering November’s question. “What is
mixed with the MFT to speed up drying in the
TRO process??” Her answer was: “Polymer
flocculent.” Sharon wins a $5.00 gift card from
Tim Horton’s. A draw was made from all
correct answers received in the first 48 hours
after delivery of the bulletin.
Member Changes All member information is for our members’
only and not to be shared outside of Desk and

Membership renewal forms will be handed out
at the December meeting or mailed to
members during December.
Send your Membership changes to Tracy
Fillmore, Membership Chairman or email Tracy
Please refer to the Address Change Form at the
back of this bulletin.
Interesting fact I found out a few weeks ago.
Most MS programs are defaulted to the Arial
font. Arial is also one of the fonts to use the
most ink. There is now a font that is called
EcoFont. It looks like Arial, but has small holes
punched in the lines of the font, thereby using
less ink. The true winner
though is Century Gothic.
If you need to step away
from a document but want to have your cursor
sitting right where you left it in the middle of
your work when you return, you don’t have to
leave your document open. Go ahead and save
and close it. When you reopen it to resume
editing, hit [Shift][F5] to take your cursor back
to precisely where you were when you closed it.
Ever tried to place a tab in a table in Word? If
you need to put a tab, say after the province
and before the postal code in an address,
simply do the following: After the province hit
[Ctrl][Tab] then type your postal code as usual.
Works every time!
Shortcut Fever:
Are you tired of hitting backspace over and over
again to get rid of spelling errors? Pressing
[Ctrl][Backspace] will delete a whole word at a
time and will be much quicker.
If you want to select a whole document with a
couple keystrokes, try [Ctrl][A]. This will select
all the text and you can then format it anyway
you like. Want to delete all your emails in your
Delete or Sent folders? Open the folder and the
hit [Ctrl][A]. Presto Chango, the emails are
highlighted and you can delete them.
It has been a pleasure sharing with you some of
my tricks for working in MS Office. I hope you
have picked something up from this and are
enjoying work a little more!

At the November Dinner Meeting, our guest
speakers were Lenore Summers and Deborah
Porath. They spoke on the past ADDC
Convention as well as try to pique
memberships’ interest in upcoming
conventions.
Lenore opened the presentation by discussing
the places the convention has been held in the
past. These have included: Houston, San
Antonio, New Orleans, Long Beach, San
Francisco, Minneapolis, Seattle, Anchorage and
Washington, DC. She also spoke to the last
convention which was held in St. Louis, MO
from September 21st through the 24th. This was
the 60th Annual Convention, so quite a
milestone for the Association. The convention
was held at the
Hyatt at the Arch, in
downtown St. Louis
and conveniently
located across from
the Arch and the
Mississippi River. It
was close to
everything, including
Busch Stadium, home to the St. Louis Cardinals.
It was amazing to see the sea of red on game
day as everyone was hopping the transit on
their way to the Stadium. The learning that is
offered at convention is amazing in its variety
and she touched briefly on the topics. While
Lenore spoke of the past convention, there
were a myriad of pictures showing on the
screen which hopefully whetted members
appetites for future conventions.
Lenore then spoke
about the next
convention. The
Crossroads of
Energy 2012 - Sept.
19 – 22 to be held
in Oklahoma City,
OK.
The video from the convention website
(http://2012addcconvention.com/) was shown.
This convention will be hosted at The Skirvin
Hilton, which is reputed to have a ghost walking
the halls. Not to worry, we’ve heard he’s
friendly! The GAC has put together the 10 Top
Reasons to Attend and they are:
10) Historic Hotel Accommodations at the
Hilton Skirvin Hotel
9) World's Largest Oil Storage Facility and the
Drumright Oil Museum Tours
8) Chesapeake Energy - Seismic 3-D and Core
Lab Tours
7) Connect with Your Inner spirit - Chickasaw
Cultural Center
6) Educational Seminar - Compressed Natural
Gas Vehicles
5) Murder Mystery Dinner - "Will It be you?"
4) Mark Fischer from Chaparral Energy speaking
on CO2 Injection Enhanced Oil Recovery
3) Friday Night – ‘Ragtime Dancin' Good Time’
theme night
2) Saturday Night - "Drums of Story's Past"

Convention
The convention in 2013 will be held in
Charleston, WV where we will spend “Autumn
in Appalachia”.
This convention
will be held at the
Charleston Town
Center Marriott
from September 25
– 29. They have
promised that the field trips and seminars will
be very informative, entertaining and
educational. They have a link on upcoming

The 63rd Annual ADDC
Convention will be held
September 24 – 28, 2014
in Lafayette, LA. The
order of the day will be
Laissez le Bon Temps
Rouler! I believe this will also be an exceptional
convention. The GAC is busy planning and they
haven’t released a lot of details yet, but from
their presentation at this past convention, we
know that they are taking, very seriously, the
educational portion of the planning with plenty
of fun being thrown in.

Desk and Derrick Orientation
(Part 2)
Roseline Cyr
Who? What? When? Where and Why? These are the questions that I wrote about in the May bulletin.
In that article I touched upon:
o WHO this organization is for: It is for men and women who are employed in the petroleum,
energy, and allied industries
o WHAT Desk and Derrick is all about: “Greater Knowledge – Greater Service”
o WHEN it all began: A bit of history - highlights of dates and events
o WHERE we fit in: Association of Desk and Derrick Clubs (“ADDC”), Region VII and our club,
Alberta Foothills Desk and Derrick Club (“ABFDDC”)
o WHY I (you) should become a member: To learn about the energy industry and for personal and
professional development.
The history of the organization is very important but there is so much to know, so where do we begin.
For all who are interested, further details on the history of the organization can be found on the
association’s website at: www.addc.org and for history on our own club please visit our website at:
www.abfddc.com
As mentioned, there is so much history, so in this article I decided that it would be interesting to know
more about the history of our own members. Wouldn’t you like to know what inspired our members to
join this wonderful club, why they remain members for so many years, where they have traveled to and
what they have learned? These are the people with the real history so I have asked a few of our
members to share some of their thoughts and special moments with us.
Thank you to each of you who have agreed to share your testimonials with us. You are our inspiration!

“I have been a member since 1982 and I joined to become more educated about the energy industry. I have chaired all positions (except Vice President) since I have been a member of (3 clubs) Grande Prairie, Calgary, and Alberta Foothills. My favourite is Field Trip/Education. My greatest experience is being involved in making the International Energy Excursions a reality- travelling to China, Australia/New Zealand and Scotland/England/Ireland. These places are the farthest I have travelled to get educated. My favourite memory is Alberta Foothills receiving their charter in Grande Prairie in 2002, being Regional Director in 2005 and having the awesome meeting in Canmore, but over the 30 years I have so many. Desk and Derrick has been a whole lot of experiences and I will treasure them all.”

“My Mother was a member of the Calgary Club for a number of years. I had heard about it and all the education & fun she had. When I started working in the oil industry many years ago she said I should join right away, which I did. The club then had over 400 members. I have learned so much from being a member thru field trips, seminars, working on various committees, and it has also given me some great friendships over the years. Lots of fun too! I will continue to be a long term member of Desk & Derrick and will also encourage many others working in the industry to join and help get the message out about its benefits.”
Theresa SchultzTheresa SchultzTheresa SchultzTheresa Schultz
“I joined in 2008. At least once a month I listened to co-workers discuss the excellent speaker at the dinner meeting or the fabulous time they had on a field trip. And then there was the attraction of regional meetings for more fun and don’t forget the education. Well I just had to join this extraordinary group of energy industry related people. “Energy” the key word, is the best reason to join this club. After 2 years I decided to jump in with more commitment by volunteering to take on the role of Treasurer on the Board of Directors and have not looked back. Being a member of the board offers many more learning opportunities and the support received from all the members is amazing.”

“I cannot begin to tell you how many ways
Desk and Derrick has helped me to grow this
year. I have learned more about the inner
workings of our club, region and association. I
have learned more about our club members –
who you are, what you do and what matters to
you. I have learned more about areas of our
industry that I never knew existed, and would
not learn about in my position. I have learned
how a few people can make a big difference.”

“Roseline Cyr told me about Desk & Derrick just after I started working at
Suncor in 2008. This was my first job with an energy company and D&D
sounded like a good way to learn something about the industry.
I attended most of the Fundamentals of Petroleum sessions, which were
a very helpful introduction for me.
Attending my first Regional Conference (Estevan) and my first
Convention (St. Louis), both in 2011, was a great way to get involved,
get educated, and get to know some of my fellow club members
better.
Marilyn CarterMarilyn CarterMarilyn CarterMarilyn Carter
“I joined the Calgary Club back in 1985 when I first started working in
the oil & gas industry. I had moved out to Alberta from Ontario, so I
was pretty green and Kathi DesChene invited me to a meeting.
From the beginning, I was impressed with the professionalism and
dedication of the members and immediately recognized the
educational opportunities. In 2002, I became a charter member of
the Alberta Foothills Club.
Becoming involved with the committees and later serving on the
Board is what has kept me coming back year after year. Desk and
Derrick has been my support group, my travel companion, and my
teacher for over 27 years.
I have reaped the benefits in my professional life and my personal
life. I have made life-long friendships in both Canada and the U.S.
and have travelled to many places I would likely never have seen.
In addition, I will treasure the memories that we have created
together.”

“The lady who got me started in Desk and Derrick was Helen Turgeon. When I first started attending the dinner meetings Helen was already on the board. I admired her public speaking ability. The thought of getting up in front of an audience and speaking absolutely terrified me. Every meeting I would hear her speak and say to myself, there is no way you'll ever catch me up there!
Move forward 25 years and I am amazed at how far I have come since I joined Desk and Derrick. Not only was I encouraged by Edith McMinn to join the public speaking committee (called CTC - Communications Training Committee) I ended up chairing that same committee for several years. Since then I have been a chair or member of every committee in our Club. I have even served on Association Committees. I am no longer afraid to speak in public. The funniest thing is no one believes I used to be a shy little mouse back in the 1980's. Desk and Derrick has improved my self-esteem, self-confidence and knowledge of this amazing industry we work in. By attending Region Meetings and Conventions I have had the opportunity to see how the industry operates in other parts of North America. No where else would I have been given that opportunity. Two of my "bucket list" items have been achieved because of Desk and Derrick. I visited an offshore drilling platform and visited Ft. McMurray and toured the oil sands plant.
I always encourage friends and colleagues to join Desk and Derrick. I have also made life-long friends across North America through this dynamic organization.”
Roseline CyrRoseline CyrRoseline CyrRoseline Cyr
“I first heard about Desk and Derrick in 1980 and actually became a member of the Desk and Derrick Club of Calgary, but due to health related circumstances I could not continue at that time. I was quite excited to hear about it again in 2006 and immediately became a member of the Alberta Foothills Desk and Derrick Club. I was aware that it would offer me many learning opportunities and I was right. Desk and Derrick has provided me with: energy industry knowledge; personal development, leadership skills, networking opportunities, travel and many many new friends. I learned all of these things by participating as a member and by being on the Board of Directors over the last 4 years. What a fun way to get an education!”
Now that’s history in the making! I hope that you have enjoyed these testimonials as much as I have.
Let’s all continue to have fun learning about our energy and affiliated industries
and live the Desk and Derrick motto:
GREATER KNOWLEDGE, GREATER SERVICE!
Page 13
December 2011 Dear Members, It is hard to believe that this year is coming to a close. The next board meeting will be the 2012 Budget and Planning Meeting. I want to encourage you to send any questions, concerns, or suggestions to your 2012 Region Director so they can be brought before your Board for discussion. The deadline for submitting changes for any proposed amendments to the Association Bylaws and Standing Rules is due to the Rules Committee Chairman by February 10, 2012. The last issue of the Desk and Derrick Journal is currently at the printers, and should be mailed out shortly. I hope you have enjoyed reading about our Association’s beginnings and look forward to future issues. At the Pre-Convention Meeting, a suggestion was made regarding Desk and Derrick Business Cards, the board approved the request and a Business Card Templet for Members (ADDC 10) is now available on the web site for you to download and input your personal information. The minutes from the 60th
Annual Convention will be posted soon. I also want to remind all Club Presidents to complete form ADO-031 as soon as your club officers have been elected so
this information can be updated in a timely manner. Since this is my last letter, I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made this year a success: my fellow board members, ADDC Committee Chairmen and Region Reps, Club Presidents, and You, the member for your support and willingness to serve this great organization. I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year and thank you once again for coming along with me through the Gateway of Growth and Opportunity.

Letter No. 12 - December 2011 Aloha Region VII Members As I sit on the balcony at our resort in Maui overlooking the ocean, not a pumpjack or rig in sight, I find myself reflecting back on the year as your Region VII Director. It has been an honour and a privilege to represent Region VII and be your voice to the Association. Thank you for the opportunity. I have gained so much personally, making new friendships and rebuilding old; plus what I have taken out of this experience educationally is greater than I ever dreamed. Iencourage everyone to get out of your comfort zone and become involved in your Region. I’ve learned that you only get out what you put in to something and with Desk and Derrick consider contributing on the Association level by becoming an ADDC Region Committee Representative or let your name stand for 2013 Region VII Director nominations. It’s all a win, win situation. As we are about to begin a new year, I would like to welcome 2012 Region VII Director Jerry Rasmussen; I know she will be a wonderful representative and has a big job ahead starting with the Budget and Planning Meeting in January; if there are issues you would like her to bring to the Board, now is the time to contact her so she will be prepared to speak for you. I wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Take time for yourself and loved ones over the holidays. Aloha!

November 10, 2011 Public Relations Review Clubs around the Association work hard to bring new members into their clubs. This is a great start, but it’s only the beginning. Once you have members, how do you deliver on your promises? And how do you keep them coming back when their needs change? Retaining your Member’s takes greater effort than recruiting them, and it all begins with the club experience. The first thing to remember for a successful meeting is to keep it fun and respectful for all participants. Learning should be fun! While most members join to improve their speaking and leadership skills, they will grow more rapidly if they’re enjoying their time spent in a club. Encourage speeches that share humorous stories, and make sure that observations always recognize what people do well. Some members hesitate to try PR because they’re afraid of being rejected by a member of the news media. But getting the buzz started means the member needs to step out of that comfort zone and contact people — especially those who don’t know about Desk and Derrick — such as reporters and bloggers. News happens fast and the news media is always looking for a good story. Reporters and editors don’t always have the resources to find you, so you need to help them. This is especially true of your local press. Offer them your club website or our association website. One of the top reasons members don’t renew their membership in any season is lack of time. It’s important to be sensitive to your members’ needs. For example, are members having trouble with the meeting time or duration? Does the meeting run too long? Are members unable to get to work on time after a meeting? Are they having trouble with evening hours or lunchtime on Tuesdays? Or is it something else? Find out and consider adjusting the club’s schedule or tone accordingly if necessary. Of course, you can’t please everyone, but if you’re losing a lot of members, it’s important to take note and act. Remember to focus your club’s educational program on meeting the members’ needs. Those who benefit from an optimal experience in the club will return to build more skills, enjoy the camaraderie and find the success you all deserve.
I wish you all the best! Ieasha Stewart ADDC Public Relations Committee Chairman

President Lenore Summers Wow, what an exciting year Alberta Foothills
has had; it is hard to believe that it is time to
turn the gavel over to the 2012 President!
We have had a year that has seen our
membership grow by 50%, our members have
been on field trips to Mostar and Opsco,
attended a seminar on Wellheads, visited the
Glenbow Museum and listened to speakers
from across the industry at our monthly dinner
meetings. We attended the Regional meeting
in Estevan, Convention in St. Louis and even had
our members plan and attend an International
Energy Excursion to The British Isles. If that
wasn’t enough, we participated in a Charity
Fashion show that was initiated by one of our
own members and we celebrated Region VII’s
60th anniversary with a commemorative
calendar; and yet another group of members
researched new venues for our 2012 dinner
meetings. Have I missed anything – I am out of
breath just reading all the things we have done
this year!
Our members are a dynamic, diverse group who
not only volunteered at the club level but
participated at the Regional level as well – 7 of
our members were the Region VII
representatives to ADDC, and that number does
not include the 2012 Association President Elect
– Marilyn Carter.
To all of you, I say THANKS for all that you have
done. No one person can do it all, your
thoughts, ideas and participation is what makes
Alberta Foothills a great club to be involved in!
To the 2011 Board of Directors, you were an
incredible group to work with and should be
very proud of yourselves.
To the 2012 Board of Directors, you have a
great leader and I am very excited to learn what
you have in store for us; I am positive we are in
for another great year!
Vice President Deborah Porath As I age, it never ceases to amaze me how fast
the time flies. I have had the extreme great
pleasure to serve on your Board of Directors as
your Vice President for 2011. And a pleasure it
has been. I have had the opportunity to work
with a great bunch, helping to steer our club
toward your goals. It has been a great year and
we should be very proud.
Our membership has increased and let’s hope
that we can continue to make inroads toward
increasing our membership further in 2012. So
let’s all keep planting a seed towards
awareness.
This year I was privileged to serve our
membership in the following ways:
• To represent the Alberta Foothills Club as
the Alternate Delegate at both the Region
VII meeting in Estevan SK and at
Convention in St. Louis, MO.
• To review our By-laws and submit the
changes to our Regional Rep for
submission to ADDC.
• To assist our President in the
performance of her duties and take on
tasks at her request.
• I presented or helped present 3
PowerPoint presentations at monthly
dinner meeting to familiarize our
membership with the ADDC website, our
website and information on upcoming
Conventions.
• I helped our Communications Chair,
Marilyn Carter proof the bulletin each
month.
My thanks go to President Lenore, who capably
chaired each meeting and steered our club to
greater membership under her reign. Thank
you to all the Board members for making this a
great year.
I look forward to serving you all in 2012 and
look forward to your input in the direction of
the Club.

Leadership Manual (“Club LM”) describes the
roles and responsibilities for each member of
the Board of Directors for our club and as Past
President it was my pleasure to do the
following:
Contributions:
Assist the Vice President with bylaws and
bylaw amendments. Deb Porath and I met
to discuss the 2011 By-law amendments
and related Special Resolutions to be filed
at Alberta Registries this year, as well as the
required filings with the ADDC.
Each year the Past President is responsible
to give a talk or presentation (Orientation)
to acquaint new members with the
workings of the Club, Region and
Association.
Coordinate the entries for the Regional
A.I.M.E.E (Award in Maintaining Energy
Excellence).
Our committee’s selections will be sent to
the Association of Desk and Derrick
(“ADDC”) by December 15th. The results will
be given at the Regional Meeting the
following year. All of the 1st place awards
are then placed at the international level to
compete against the other regions. The
results are given at the convention, in the
fall of each year.
Our club has done very well in many of
these categories over the years and I know
they will do well again this year. Let’s wish
our club the very best!
Support:
Write-up on a combined educational field
trip / program. I attended the Glenbow
Museum field trip on February 9th and
wrote an article for the March bulletin.
This year I felt that it would be interesting
to do some public relations for our club.
Since I had prepared an Orientation Power
Point, I was able to use that as a tool to
present at a Lunch & Learn at Suncor
Energy. Thank you to Linda Topolinsky for
her help.
I assisted with gathering clothing and
modeling at the “Making Changes” charity
fund raiser. Black Gold was the name of our
team and it was a wonderful success for the
organizers and a lot of fun for all who
participated and attended.
 Proof Reading our Mountain Messages
I attended the Region VII Meeting in
Estevan, SK and what a great time I had. I
also provided my Bylaws Review Committee
Report as I was the Region VII
representative on that committee this year.
I volunteered to be a part of the GAC
committee as a chair or co-chair of the
House Committee in preparation for the
2013 Regional Meeting which will be hosted
by our club.
Attended the last meeting of the Desk and
Derrick Club of Calgary – October - An
evening of great memories and sad good-
byes.
Each year we have big plans and dreams of
accomplishing many things. Unfortunately,
many things can get in our way and limit the
amount of energy we can commit to our
volunteer work. I can only hope that my
contributions and my support have benefited
our members and club this year.
I know that I have certainly benefited from my
experience as Past President and I have
definitely learned a lot more about myself and
the Circle of Energy around me.
I wish to thank each member of the Board of
Directors for their contributions and support as
well, as many of them will also form part of my
AIMEE Selection committee. And to you,
members, thank you for all you do for this club.
The time has now come for me to say good-bye
or rather “Ce n’est qu’un au revoir”, “Farewell”.
Page 19
I have thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated my
last year, and every year, as a member of the
Board of Directors. Thank you and “Au Revoir”
Treasurer Theresa Schultz A special thank you and kudos to all the
members of ABFDDC for the year 2011.
Without your commitment to attend our
monthly dinner meetings and bring your guests
we would not have a Club for whom I could
serve as Treasurer. Being Treasurer of this
wonderful Club has been an honor and I
especially enjoyed announcing the cash balance
each month so we could all suggest shopping
trips.
I primarily need to say thank you to Sharon
Grocutt, Reservations Committee Chair, Brigitte
Shaw and Ronda Cornell, Co-Chair of the
Education Committee, Mary Alice Rooney and
Linda Topolinsky, Program Committee Co-Chair,
and Tracy Fillmore, Membership Chair for
providing their efficient deposit reports.
Another special thank you needs to be
extended to all those individuals that were
involved with this year’s fundraising. The
reports all these people provided made my
service to the Club effortless.
In May, as Treasurer on the Board I was
especially happy to announce an amendment to
the Club Budget that represented a more
positive cash flow for the year. I was given
credit for the more promising update but the
credit needs to go to all the Board members for
their collaborative efforts which allowed me to
shine.
On behalf of the members; a huge Thank You
goes to the entire Board for keeping within or
below their budgeted expenses ensuring the
Club completes the year on a high note.
After 2 years of service as your Treasurer I am
stepping down and I know everyone will
support and assist Mandy Olekshy in this role. I
am privileged that the Club has the confidence
in me to assume the role of Vice-President for
2012. I look forward to continuing to serve the
Club in this new role by listening and sharing
your ideas and opinions, supporting and
assisting the President in her role and
mentoring our newly elected Treasurer.
It has been a great year and THANK YOU for all
your guidance and continued encouragement.
Communication Chair Marilyn Carter It was an honour and pleasure to publish the
monthly bulletin this year. However, I could not
have done it without the help of all those who
contributed their time efforts by submitting
articles, stories, and information for it. There
are too many names to mention and I would be
afraid I would miss someone, so just let me say
thank you to all of you (you know who you are).
I will take this opportunity to thank the five
people who contributed their valuable time to
proof the bulletin, usually at short notice, each
month: Debb Porath, Lenore Summers, Brenda
Wyton, Loreen Jensen and Roseline Cyr.
I hope you enjoyed reading all eleven (11)
issues of Mountain Messages this year and that
we provided the education and reflection of our
year in history.
Education Co-chair Brigitte Shaw &
Ronda Cornell This year we had 3 field trips and one seminar,
the recap is as follows:
February 9th
– Glenbow Museum Archives
Host: Doug Cass
Members / Guests in attendance: 27
We joined forces with the Program committee
for this field trip. At the Glenbow, we were able
to see numerous items from the Desk and
Derrick Club of Calgary. These are now
archived, and include records, writings and
photographs dating from 1952-2000. We had a
wonderful dinner catered by Lorna Myers, back
at Suncor’s office where we concluded the
business portion of the meeting.
Page 20
April 20th
- Wellhead 101 Seminar
Presenter: Craig Fisher from Weatherford
Members / Guests in attendance: 15
Through discussion and a very well put together
power point slide presentation, we learned all
about wellheads. It was highly technical but
very informative. Connie MacRae submitted a
speaker review in the April Bulletin, where
wellheads are explained in more laymen terms.
October 20th
– Mostar Directional Drilling
Hosts: Victor Petrovic and John Petrovic
Members / Guests in attendance: 20
This facility tour provided us with much insight
into downhole directional tools and
technological advances made within that area.
We were able to see how such things were
designed, manufactured, and tested. Marilyn
Carter did a full write up on this field trip; it is in
the November Bulletin.
November 17th
– Opsco Energy Industries
Hosts: Sam Savage and Dave Clark
Members / Guests in attendance: 14
This facility tour showed us how some oil and
gas equipment is machined, welded and then
shipped out to site for use. Watch for the
upcoming write up by Linda Wright in the New
Year!
We wish you continued learning adventures in
2012 – Ronda Cornell / Brigitte Shaw
Membership Chair Tracy Fillmore Membership Tally:
• Membership at December 31, 2011 is 67.
• Total new members for 2011 – 19.
Activities:
• Ordered 10 Name tags for New members
for last year
• Need to order 15 more Name tags for the
new members and replacements
• New member and guest packages were
given out at membership meetings
• Birthday Greetings were sent to members
• Board approval letters where issued
It has been a pleasure to serve as the
Membership Chair for 2011, with the awesome
growth of the club. I would like to thank
everyone who helped me fulfill my duties as
membership chair, Lenore Summers, Sharon
Grocutt, Marilyn Carter, Deborah Porath and
the club. I was inspired, by the encouragement
from all the members, in the club. I have
complete confidence that the club will continue
that support to the next membership chair, Lisa
Monague, and wish her all the best in her term
as Membership Chair for 2012.
Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year, to everyone. Cheers!!!
Reservations Chair Sharon Grocutt I would like to say that all went well this year
and it was great to see membership rise from
48 members at the end of 2010 to 67 members
as of December 2011. Great year!!
I would like to thank my committee: Linda
Wright, Loreen Jensen, and Sandy Fitzpatrick for
all their help this past year and trying to keep
me in line. If I have forgotten anyone, please
accept my apologies as it was not intentional.
Reservations is a great committee as you get to
put a name to the many new faces and you get
to interact with members. Every meeting night
is a new experience with great friendship.

LINDA GREEN Sept. 21, 1950 – Sept. 9, 2011
Linda joined the Alberta Foothills Club in 2004 and was a very active member. Although she shied away from standing at the podium, she was always leading and working behind the scenes and helping others fulfill their roles. Linda was a mentor to many. She especially took a leading role in all three of the International Trips to China, Australia and the UK even though her diagnosis prevented her from attending the latest trip.
Joy, Heart, Passion, Strength, Dedication, Caring, Giving
Loving, Inquisitive, Involved, Friend
Linda was all of these things – and so much more
It is impossible to capture everything she was, or how much she accomplished or even how much she meant to all of us. Linda’s spirit will remain in all of us.
For now Linnie – all we can say is LOVE YOU LOTS!!
It is not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells you what kind of life you have lived.
SAYING GOODBYE IS NEVER EASY
