Welcome Cub Scout Leaders, Boy Scout Leaders, Venture Leaders and Commissioners of Westark Area Council. Our Fifth Baden Powell University is one of the most exciting new training programs that our council has ever offered. It is complete with a degree program and patch recognition. There is something for everyone from the first time trainee (new Scouter) to the seasoned veteran. New scouting requirements and major changes have occurred for this year. These changes will be part of the programming at the University. We hope that you will find a new twist to some old tricks that you can take home and use with the youth in your unit. The sessions are 45 minutes long and provide you with the latest and newest information that can be found. Your trainers have had Trainers Development Conference/and or Edge and most are Wood Badge Trained so you know they are the best qualified. Most have been preparing extensively for this training, so many hours of work have gone into developing, planning and implementing this program for you. So enjoy, learn as much as you can and take it back to your youth to Deliver that most important Promise. Register Early by October 28, 2011 and save $15.00. REGISTRATION INFORMATION

1. Read the entire catalog carefully. Each College offers numerous courses.

Please read and understand the degree requirements for the College you

choose as your primary before completing the Registration Form.

2. Note that the length of some courses may span more than one period.

3. All participants may attend courses offered by any College; however, each

College requires completion of a specific number of courses in that College to

earn a degree. Courses are kept small to facilitate learning and class

participation. Courses required for degrees in any College will be filled on a

first come, first serve basis for Scouters pre-registering by October 28, 2011

or as a walk-in at the Baden Powell University will be placed into unfilled

courses on an availability basis. If early participant registrations warrant,

additional courses may be scheduled for “popular” courses.

4. All courses are suitable for all Scouters unless the course description

specifically defines the target audience. Read the description carefully to

evaluate course content in light of your needs and desires.

5. The University reserves the right to cancel courses or make appropriate

changes in order to accommodate the largest number of Scouters.

6. To select courses, prioritize your top 9 choices in the spaces provided on the

Registration Form. We will make every effort to accommodate your top 6

choices. Courses designated with ‘‘(requires 2 periods)” count as two course

credits. Although you will be listing your course choices in preferential order,

keep in mind that courses are assigned to particular class periods (see

schedule), so you must include at least one course from each period in order to

achieve a complete schedule.

7. You must select a College as your primary College of registration. If you

choose to earn a degree, the University needs you to identify your primary

College.

8. Instructors or University Staff who are also taking courses should list the

course (s) they are teaching as well as the period (s) that course (e.g.

BSC201-Instructor, Period 3) and then list the courses they would like to take.

Staff members who are not taking courses should list the course they are

teaching (e.g. BSC201-Instructor. Period 3) or their staff position in the

university (e.g. registrar).
