Women in Leadership DevelopmentEveryone has leadership potential, but for most it needs to be encouraged, nurtured, and

practiced. Women in Leadership Development (WILD) is an intensive four-year program that

helps you discover the confi dence, poise, and trust in yourself that you need to shine.

You’ll start with personal exploration exercises and activities to understand the choices you

make—personally, academically, and professionally. Making these important choices in an

informed and thoughtful way is the key to becoming the woman you want to be.

Once you know more about yourself and who you really are, you’ll focus on where you

want to go and who you want to be. You’ll work with our Career Services team and

network with accomplished women from an array of professional fi elds. You’ll discover all

that is out there, just waiting for you.

The School of Arts and Sciences is a diverse

learning community of faculty and students

who engage in scholarly, creative, and

professional programs that challenge

the mind, touch the soul, and lift

the spirit. Experiences in the humanities,

visual and performing arts, natural sciences,

social sciences, and mathematics offered in

a student-focused environment let students

develop as active learners and leaders.

Service learning is integrated into selected

courses, and students have numerous

opportunities to participate in internships

and research experiences. Students are

involved in their education not only in the

classroom, studio, and laboratory, but also

in co-curricular experiences such as living-

learning communities, honor societies and

clubs, student government, and cultural

and service-oriented activities.

Athletics & Wellness

A passion for the game… a passion for lifeThe GCU Lions are fi erce competitors in eight NCAA Division II and CACC sports—

basketball, softball, soccer, tennis, lacrosse, cross country, track and fi eld, and

volleyball. GCU offers merit-based athletic awards in all sports, but what truly

distinguishes our program is our commitment to building well-rounded student-

athletes. GCU student-athletes maintain an above-average GPA, participate regularly in

community service projects, and take on active leadership roles throughout the campus.

GCU is committed to your development

as a “whole student”—mind, body, and

spirit— and the new Wellness Center

honors this commitment from ceiling

to fl oor. The spectacular 67,000-square-

foot Wellness Center buidling is eco-

friendly— incorporating water, material,

and energy effi ciency throughout—and

houses professional dance studios, a

fully-loaded fi tness center, a 1,200-

seat arena, and an exercise science

lab. In addition to the Wellness Center, the

complex includes state-of-the-art fi elds for

softball, soccer, and lacrosse, and a six-

court tennis center with viewing area.

New Programs in Arts & Sciences

Projected increases in school enrollment make

early childhood development (P–3) one of the fastest-growing and in-demand

areas in education. This program examines

the needs of young learners and explores

best practices for achieving necessary content

knowledge. Teacher candidates learn to create

effective and developmentally appropriate

learning environments that will have a positive

impact on a young learner’s readiness for

school and overall psychosocial and cognitive

development.

The minor and concentration in sports management take passion for the

game to a new level, exploring everything

from what it takes to keep fans happy to the

complex fi nances that fuel the $560-billion-

a-year sports industry. The fi eld is steadily

growing, and the number of jobs in sports

and sports tourism is expected to grow

23 percent by 2018.

• Developed in partnership with Meridian Health—one of the area’s largest employers—the B.S.N. in Nursing directly addresses the shortage of health care workers.

• As more people and organizations spend time and money on health and fi tness programs, the demand for professionals with a B.S. in Exercise Science, Wellness, and Sports will increase faster than average through 2018.

• The B.A. in Dance/Minor in Dance Therapy is perfect for students who aspire to perform on stage or explore increasing opportunities for dance teachers and dance therapists.

• The concentration in homeland security prepares students to meet the growing demand for law enforcement professionals with specialized knowledge in areas such as immigration enforcement, information analysis, criminal investigation, information security, and more.

• The B.S. in Psychiatric Rehabilitation & Psychology—a joint program with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey—addresses the ongoing need for dedicated mental health professionals to help patients restore their well-being and realize functionality and productivity.

Accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC), the School of

Education at Georgian Court University is legendary for preparing outstanding

teacher candidates who are sought after by school districts across the state and

nation. GCU teacher candidates grow their skills in a dynamic and comprehensive

preparation program that is fueled by a shared passion for the power of education.

Our programs are designed around the New Jersey Professional Standards for Teachers

and include 150 hours of fi eld experience prior to student teaching. This careful and

gradual preparation ensures that each GCU teacher candidate demonstrates care,

competence, and confi dence when they take the lead in their own classroom.
