A WORD ABOUT YOUR KEYSIt is not recommended to leave the ignition switch in theACC position for extended periods of time. This willdischarge the 12-Volt battery and may degrade the bat-tery life and/or prevent the vehicle from starting. Forinformation on using the vehicles accessories (radio, video system or power outlets) refer to “Electrical PowerOutlets” in Section 3 of this supplement.

HYBRID SYSTEM OPERATIONYour Hybrid vehicle combines the power of a gasolineengine and electric motors to minimize fuel consumptionand emissions. This vehicle requires no special fuels andnever has to be plugged in to recharge. Understandingthe unique characteristics of your vehicle will help ensuremaximum performance and best fuel economy from yourvehicle.

Your Hybrid vehicle is also equipped with two electricalvoltage systems. A 12-Volt system which is used to powerthe conventional electrical system and a high voltagesystem which is used to power the motors in the 2-ModeHybrid Transmission as well as other high voltage sys-tem components.

Hybrid Operation

ShiftingYou must press the brake pedal fully before shifting outof PARK. During this first brake application, the brake

system is undergoing a self-test function. The brake pedaltravel will be longer then usual. This is normal. Pressfirmly on the brake to prevent rolling. Refer to “Regen-erative Braking System” under “Hybrid Vehicle UniqueOperating Characteristics” in this Section for furtherinformation.

DrivingWhen the “READY” light is illuminated the gas enginecan shut off automatically to save on fuel, and startautomatically to provide power when it is needed. Whilecoasting at low speeds, coming to a stop or standing still, the gas engine will normally shut off and the vehicle willoperate on electric power only. Conditions that maycause the gas engine to start up or remain runninginclude:

• Moderate or rapid acceleration

• Vehicle speed

• Climbing a hill

• Charge level of high voltage battery

• Engine temperature, transmission temperature orcoolant temperature

• Hybrid System malfunction (Hybrid service lamp on)

• Tow/Haul activated

• Hood is ajar

• Shift lever position 2 or 1

NOTE: The gas engine can also automatically shut offwith the shift lever in PARK, REVERSE, DRIVE orNEUTRAL.

Stopping In Traffic With Auto Stop/Start FunctionThe gas engine may shut off as you decelerate to a stop, this is normal and will conserve fuel at idle. Restartingthe vehicle is not necessary.

When you desire to move forward with traffic flow, simply press the accelerator pedal and continue acceler-ating from idle up to your cruising speed. The gas enginewill restart and shut down again automatically whencommanded by the Hybrid System. Shutting down andrestarting (cycling) of the gas engine during low speedtraffic conditions less than 30 mph (48 km/h) is normal.

Re-Starting A Warm EngineYour Hybrid vehicle is equipped with Silent Start fuelsaving technology. The decision to enable the gas engineon a restart is automatically determined by the HybridSystem.

Under certain conditions, the gas engine will not start(usually when restarting a warmed-up engine that hasrecently been parked) when the ignition key is insertedand turned to the START position. This is normal and isconsidered a Silent Start. When the ignition key isreleased to the ON/RUN position you will observe the

green READY light illuminated in the instrument clus-ter, but, again, the gas engine is not running. When youexperience a “Silent Start” leave the key in the ON/RUNposition, then simply place your foot on the brake pedal, move the shift lever into REVERSE or DRIVE and pressthe accelerator pedal to drive the Hybrid vehicle in theelectric mode.

2-Mode Hybrid Transmission OperationThe 2-Mode Hybrid Transmission combines two electricmotors with four fixed gear ratios within a single trans-mission housing. The electric motors can be used forelectric-only propulsion, boosting the internal combus-tion engine or providing regenerative braking.

The 2-Mode Hybrid Transmission will select one of thefour fixed gear ratios, or operate as an electrically vari-able transmission (variable ratio or EVT) depending ondriver input, vehicle speed and loading.

Unlike a conventional transmission, the 2-Mode HybridTransmission can propel the vehicle without the enginerunning during low speed, light load operation (electriconly mode).

NOTE: Your Hybrid vehicle can be run through typicalcommercial car wash facilities. There are some precau-tions that you should keep in mind.

• When entering an automatic/conveyor style car washfacility, it is important that the driver follow theattendant’s or posted instructions and that your shiftlever is shifted to NEUTRAL when instructed.

• A Hybrid vehicle that is in REVERSE or DRIVE withthe “READY” light illuminated and gas enginestopped, is NOT a substitute for the NEUTRALposition.

CAUTION!

Car wash equipment damage, vehicle damage or apotential accident event could result if the car washfacility instructions for PARK, NEUTRAL, DRIVEand REVERSE are not followed.

Hybrid Vehicle Operating CharacteristicsYour Hybrid vehicle operates differently compared to aNon-Hybrid vehicle. The following is a description of themajor differences:

Regenerative BrakingYour Hybrid vehicle has a Regenerative Braking System(RBS). The RBS increases the fuel economy of the vehicle, particularly in stop-and-go city traffic. The electric mo-tors which propel the vehicle forward can operate asgenerators when braking. The RBS recharges the highvoltage battery under certain braking conditions by re-capturing energy that would otherwise be lost while

braking. The electric power that is generated goes backinto the high voltage battery for later use, for examplewhen acceleration is desired.

The RBS uses conventional hydraulic friction brakes, regenerative braking, or a combination to slow the ve-hicle. The Hybrid power gauge indicates the amount ofregenerative braking. If the system detects slippery con-ditions while braking, mainly friction is used to slow thevehicle. The RBS can result in extended life of thehydraulic service brakes; however, all inspection, sched-uled maintenance, and service intervals for the vehicleservice brakes must be followed.

NOTE: Lighter brake pedal efforts and longer brakepedal travel are normal Hybrid brake operations duringthe first brake application. After start-up, during the firstbrake application, the brake system undergoes a self-test

function. The brake pedal has a lighter effort (longertravel) than during normal driving but provides fullpower assist.

Climate Control (HVAC System)Your Hybrid vehicle uses automatic temperature control(ATC) HVAC system with specialized components. ThisHVAC system utilizes a humidity sensor, cabin infrared(IR) sensor, sun sensor, and ambient temperature sensorto choose operation mode and control cabin comfort.Your Hybrid vehicle also uses a heater auxiliary pump toprovide heat to the cabin while the vehicle is in electricmode. The electrically driven AC compressor is notconnected to the engine like a standard gas vehicle. Thesecomponents allow the control to operate the HVACsystem in a very efficient manner to save fuel.

NOTE: It is recommended the vehicle be operated withthe air conditioning (AC) on in high ambient tempera-tures as the high voltage battery is cooled by the cabin air.

Driving To Achieve Maximum Fuel EconomyYour fuel economy should improve throughout yourHybrid vehicle’s break-in period. As with any vehicle, fuel economy can be significantly impacted by yourdriving style and accessory usage. For best results, keepin mind the following:

Tire InflationKeep tires properly inflated and only use the recom-mended size. Refer to “Tire and Loading InformationPlacard” under “Tires Safety Information” in Section 5 ofyour Owner’s Manual.

Driving StyleAggressive driving increases the amount of energy re-quired to move your vehicle. In general, better fueleconomy is achieved with mild to moderate accelerationand deceleration.

ELECTRICAL POWER OUTLETSUsing the vehicles accessories (radio, video system orpower outlets) can discharge the 12-Volt battery, degradethe battery life and/or prevent the vehicle from starting. It is recommended to limit the use of the ACC mode toapproximately 15 minutes to avoid discharging the 12-Volt battery. Refer to “Electric Power Outlets” in Section 3of the Owner’s Manual for more information on using theElectrical Power Outlets.

NOTE:• If the voltage light (located in the instrument cluster)

illuminates when using the accessories, the vehicleshould be started and driven to recharge the 12-Voltbattery. Refer to “Starting and Operating” in Section 5of this Supplement for further information.

• All accessories connected to these outlets should beremoved or turned off when the vehicle is not in use toprotect the 12-Volt battery against discharge.

CAUTION!

• Many accessories that can be plugged in drawpower from the vehicle’s 12-Volt battery, evenwhen not in use (i.e., cellular phones, etc.). Even-tually, if plugged in long enough, the vehicle’sbattery will discharge sufficiently to degrade bat-tery life and/or prevent engine starting.

• Accessories that draw higher power (i.e., coolers, vacuum cleaners, lights, etc.) will discharge the12-Volt battery even more quickly. Only use theseintermittently and with greater caution.

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DESCRIPTION

1. Fuel GaugeThe fuel gauge shows the level of fuel in the tank whenignition switch is in the ON position.

2. Temperature GaugeThe temperature gauge indicates engine coolant tem-perature. Any reading within the normal range indicatesthat the cooling system is operating satisfactory. Thetemperature gauge will likely indicate a high tempera-ture when driving in hot weather, up mountain grades, inheavy traffic or when towing a trailer. If the temperaturegauge rises to the “H” mark, stop the vehicle, and shiftinto NEUTRAL, press the TOW/HAUL button and in-crease engine speed for two to three minutes. If thetemperature reading does not return to normal, see yourauthorized dealer for service immediately.

CAUTION!

Do not leave your vehicle unattended with the en-gine running as you would not be able to react to thetemperature reading if the engine overheats.

The temperature gauge will remain near its last readingwhen the ignition is turned OFF. It will return to a truereading when the engine is restarted.

3. Turn Signal IndicatorsWhen a turn signal is activated, right-pointing or left-pointing arrows illuminate and flash to indicate thedirection of the turn. These indicators also indicateproper operation of the front and rear turn signal lights. If either indicator flashes at a faster rate than normal, check for a defective bulb. If either indicator fails to lightup when the multifunction lever is moved, check for adefective fuse or turn signal LED. A single chime is

26. Tire Pressure Monitoring Telltale LightEach tire, including the spare (if provided),should be checked monthly when cold andinflated to the inflation pressure recommendedby the vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle

placard or tire inflation pressure label. (If your vehiclehas tires of a different size than the size indicated on thevehicle placard or tire inflation pressure label, you shoulddetermine the proper tire inflation pressure for thosetires.)

As an added safety feature, your vehicle has beenequipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System(TPMS) that illuminates a low tire pressure telltale whenone or more of your tires are significantly under-inflated.Accordingly, when the low tire pressure telltale illumi-nates, you should stop and check your tires as soon aspossible, and inflate them to the proper pressure. Drivingon a significantly under-inflated tire causes the tire tooverheat and can lead to tire failure. Under-inflation also

reduces fuel efficiency and tire tread life, and may affectthe vehicle’s handling and stopping ability.

Please note that the TPMS is not a substitute for propertire maintenance, and it is the driver’s responsibility tomaintain correct tire pressure, even if under-inflation hasnot reached the level to trigger illumination of the TPMSlow tire pressure telltale.

Your vehicle has also been equipped with a TPMSmalfunction indicator to indicate when the system is notoperating properly. The TPMS malfunction indicator iscombined with the low tire pressure telltale. When thesystem detects a malfunction, the telltale will flash for

approximately one minute and then remain continuouslyilluminated. This sequence will continue upon subse-quent vehicle start-ups as long as the malfunction exists. When the malfunction indicator is illuminated, the sys-tem may not be able to detect or signal low tire pressureas intended. TPMS malfunctions may occur for a varietyof reasons, including the installation of replacement oralternate tires or wheels on the vehicle that prevent theTPMS from functioning properly. Always check theTPMS malfunction telltale after replacing one or moretires or wheels on your vehicle to ensure that the replace-ment or alternate tires and wheels allow the TPMS tocontinue to function properly.

press the Snowflake button to turn on the air condition-ing, and drive with the windows open for the first fewminutes. Once the hot air has been expelled, close thewindows and set the mode selector to the Recirculationpanel or Recirculation Bi-level position. When a comfort-able condition has been reached, choose a mode positionand adjust the temperature control and blower speed asnecessary to maintain comfort.

Window FoggingWindows will fog on the inside when the humidity insidethe vehicle is high. This often occurs in mild or cooltemperatures when it’s rainy or humid. In most cases, turning on the air conditioning (pressing the snowflakebutton) will clear the fog. Adjust the temperature control, air direction and blower speed to maintain comfort. When the control is in Auto mode the humidity sensorwill monitor cabin conditions and reduce interior fog-ging.

As the temperature gets colder it may be necessary todirect air onto the windshield by using Mix Modeposition on the control. Adjust the temperature controland blower speed to maintain comfort. Interior foggingon the windshield can be quickly removed by selectingthe defrost mode.

Regular cleaning of the inside of the windows with anon-filming cleaning solution (vinegar and water worksvery well) will help prevent contaminants (cigarettesmoke, perfumes, etc.) from sticking to the windows.Contaminants increase the rate of window fogging.

Summer OperationAir conditioned vehicles must be protected with a highquality antifreeze coolant during Summer to provideproper corrosion protection and to raise the boiling pointof the coolant for protection against overheating. A 50%concentration is recommended.

NOTE: Towing the vehicle (except as specified under“Towing A Disabled Vehicle”), coasting, or otherwisedriving the vehicle while in NEUTRAL can cause severetransmission damage.

DRIVEFor most city and highway driving. This is the preferredoperating mode for this vehicle. The best fuel economy isachieved by operating the vehicle in DRIVE.

“2” SECONDFor driving on mountain roads where more precise speedcontrol is desirable. Use it also when climbing longgrades, and for engine braking when descending moder-ately steep grades. To prevent excessive engine speed donot exceed 45 mph (72 km/h) in this range.

NOTE: When operating in “2” SECOND the gasolineengine will start and/or remain running.

“1” FIRSTFor driving up very steep hills and for engine braking atlow speeds 25 mph (40 km/h) or less when goingdownhill. To prevent excessive engine speed do notexceed 25 mph (40 km/h) in this range.

NOTE: When operating in “1” FIRST the gasolineengine will start and/or remain running.

Drive OperationThe 2-Mode Hybrid Transmission will select one of fourfixed gear ratios to maximize fuel economy. However, thebest fuel economy savings will be when the following isconditions are met:

• the shift lever is in DRIVE.

• the engine coolant has reached normal operating tem-perature.

• the TOW/HAUL switch has not been activated.

FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE OPERATION

MP 3010 “Active On Demand” Transfer CaseThe MP 3010 is a single speed (4 HI range only) transfercase which provides convenient full-time four-wheeldrive. No driver interaction is required.

Proper operation of four-wheel drive vehicles dependson tires of equal size, type and circumference on eachwheel. Any difference in tire size can cause damage to thetransfer case.

Because four-wheel drive provides improved traction, there is a tendency to exceed safe turning and stoppingspeeds. Do not go faster than road conditions permit.

This four-wheel drive (4WD) system allows the front andrear wheels to rotate at different speeds when required bythe road condition or road surface.

The “SVC 4WD” warning light monitors the electric shift4WD system. If this light remains on after engine start upor illuminates during driving, it means that the 4WDsystem is not functioning properly and that service isrequired. See your authorized dealer for immediate ser-vice.

WARNING!

Always engage the parking brake when poweringdown the vehicle if the SVC 4WD light is illumi-nated. Not engaging the parking brake may allow thevehicle to roll, which may cause personal injury.

POWER STEERINGYour vehicle is equipped with an electro-hydraulic powersteering system that will give you good vehicle responseand increased ease of maneuverability in tight spaces. The system will vary its assist to provide light effortswhile parking and good feel while driving. If the electro-hydraulic power steering system experiences a fault thatprevents it from providing power steering assist, thesystem will provide mechanical steering capability.

CAUTION!

Operation in very high temperatures with a highlevel of steering activity may cause the electricallydriven pump to reduce or stop assist in order toprevent damage to the system. Normal operation willresume once the system is allowed to cool.

If for some reason the power assist is interrupted, it willstill be possible to steer your vehicle. Under these condi-tions you will observe a substantial increase in steeringeffort, especially at very low vehicle speeds and duringparking maneuvers.

NOTE: Increased noise levels at the end of the steeringwheel travel are considered normal and does not indicatethat there is a problem with the power steering system.

Upon initial start-up in cold weather, the power steeringpump may make noise for a short period of time. Thisnoise should be considered normal, and does not in anyway damage the steering system.

WARNING!

Continued operation with reduced power steeringassist could pose a safety risk to yourself and others.Service should be obtained as soon as possible.

CAUTION!

Prolonged operation of the steering system at the endof the steering wheel travel will increase the steeringfluid temperature and should be avoided when pos-sible. Damage to the power steering pump may occur.

ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEMYour vehicle is equipped with an advanced electronicbrake control system that includes Anti-Lock Brake Sys-tem (ABS), Brake Assist System (BAS), Traction ControlSystem (TCS), Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM), Elec-tronic Stability Program (ESP), Trailer Sway Control(TSC) and Hill Start Assist (HSA). All seven systemswork together to enhance vehicle stability and control invarious driving conditions, and are commonly referred toas ESP.

Hill Start Assist (HSA)The HSA system is designed to assist the driver whenstarting a vehicle from a stop on a hill. HSA will maintainthe level of brake pressure the driver applied for a shortperiod of time after the driver takes their foot off of thebrake pedal. If the driver does not apply the throttleduring this short period of time, the system will releasebrake pressure and the vehicle will roll down the hill. The

system will release brake pressure in proportion toamount of throttle applied as the vehicle starts to move inthe intended direction of travel.

HSA ActivationThe following must be met in order for HSA to activate:

• Vehicle must be stopped.

• Vehicle must be on a 8% grade or greater hill.

• Gear selection matches vehicle uphill direction (i.e.,vehicle facing uphill is in forward gear; vehicle back-ing uphill is in REVERSE gear).

HSA will work in REVERSE and all forward gears whenthe activation requirements have been met. The systemwill not activate if the vehicle is placed in NEUTRAL orPARK.

WARNING!

There may be situations on minor hills (i.e., less than8%), with a loaded vehicle, or while pulling a trailer, when the system will not activate and slight rollingmay occur. This could cause a collision with anothervehicle or object. Always remember the driver isresponsible for braking the vehicle.

Towing with HSAHSA will provide assistance when starting on a gradewhen pulling a trailer.

WARNING!

• If you use a trailer brake controller with yourtrailer, your trailer brakes may be activated anddeactivated with the brake switch. If so, when thebrake pedal is released there may not be enoughbrake pressure to hold the vehicle and trailer on ahill and this could cause a collision with anothervehicle or object behind you. In order to avoidrolling down the hill while resuming acceleration, manually activate the trailer brake prior to releas-ing the brake pedal. Always remember the driveris responsible for braking the vehicle.

MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES

WARNING!

Your vehicle has both a high voltage DC and ACsystem as well as a 12-Volt system. DC and AC highvoltage are both extremely dangerous and can causesevere burns, electric shock, serious injury or evendeath. In order to avoid personal injuries:• DO NOT TOUCH THE HIGH VOLTAGE

CABLES (ORANGE COLORED) AND/OR THECONNECTORS.

• Follow all Caution and Warning labels attached tothe high voltage (Hybrid System) components.

• Do not remove or replace any of the HybridSystem components. All replacement or repairs ofHybrid System components should be performedby a factory-trained technician at an authorizeddealer.

The pages that follow contain the required maintenanceservices determined by the engineers who designed yourvehicle.

Besides the maintenance items for which there are fixedmaintenance intervals, there are other items that shouldoperate satisfactorily without periodic maintenance. However, if a malfunction of these items does occur, itcould adversely affect the engine or vehicle performance. These items should be inspected if a malfunction isobserved or suspected.

Traction Power Inverter Module Cooling SystemThe Traction Power Inverter Module (TPIM) coolingsystem is completely separate from the engine coolingsystem and is designed to remove heat away from theTPIM.

WARNING!

• The warning graphic that appears on the coolingsystem pressure cap is a safety precaution for “DONOT OPEN HOT”. Never add coolant (antifreeze)when the engine is overheated. Do not loosen orremove the cap to cool an overheated engine. Heatcauses pressure to build up in the cooling system. Toprevent scalding or injury, do not remove the pres-sure cap while the system is hot or under pressure.

• Do not use a pressure cap other than the onespecified for your vehicle. Personal injury or en-gine damage may result.

Maintain coolant (antifreeze) concentration at a mini-mum of 50% MOPAR Antifreeze/Coolant 5Year/100,000 Mile Formula HOAT (Hybrid Organic Ad-ditive Technology) and distilled/deionized water forproper corrosion protection.

Check the coolant (antifreeze) level with the engine off. Ifthe coolant (antifreeze) level is below the Cold Fill mark, add coolant until it reaches the MAX level mark.

If the coolant (antifreeze) is dirty or contains a consider-able amount of sediment, clean and flush with a reliablecooling system cleaner. Follow with a thorough rinsing toremove all deposits and chemicals. Properly dispose ofold coolant (antifreeze) solution.

Selection Of CoolantRefer to “Fluids, Lubricants, and Genuine Parts” in thissection for the correct fluid type.

CAUTION!

• Mixing of coolant (antifreeze) other than specifiedHOAT TPIM coolant (antifreeze), may result inengine damage and may decrease corrosion pro-tection. If a non-HOAT coolant (antifreeze) isintroduced into the cooling system in an emer-gency, it should be replaced with the specifiedcoolant (antifreeze) as soon as possible.

(Continued)

CAUTION! (Continued)• Do not use plain water alone or alcohol-base

coolant (antifreeze) products. Do not use addi-tional rust inhibitors or antirust products, as theymay not be compatible with the TPIM coolant andmay plug the TPIM cooler.

• This vehicle has not been designed for use withPropylene Glycol based coolant (antifreeze). Useof Propylene Glycol based coolant (antifreeze) isnot recommended.

Adding CoolantYour vehicle has been built with an improved TPIMcoolant (antifreeze) that allows extended maintenanceintervals. This coolant (antifreeze) can be used up to 5Years or 102,000 miles (170 000 km) before replacement. To prevent reducing this extended maintenance period, itis important that you use the same coolant (antifreeze)throughout the life of your vehicle.

Please review these recommendations for using HybridOrganic Additive Technology (HOAT) coolant (anti-freeze).

When adding coolant (antifreeze):

• The manufacturer recommends using MOPARAntifreeze/Coolant 5 Year/100,000 Mile FormulaHOAT (Hybrid Organic Additive Technology).

• Mix a minimum solution of 50% HOAT coolant (anti-freeze) and distilled water. Use higher concentrations(not to exceed 70%) if temperatures below -34°F(-37°C) are anticipated.

• Use only high purity water such as distilled or deion-ized water when mixing the water/TPIM coolant(antifreeze) solution. The use of lower quality waterwill reduce the amount of corrosion protection in theengine cooling system.

Please note that it is the owner’s responsibility to main-tain the proper level of protection against freezing ac-cording to the temperatures occurring in the area wherethe vehicle is operated.

NOTE: Mixing coolant (antifreeze) types will decreasethe life of the TPIM coolant (antifreeze) and will requiremore frequent coolant (antifreeze) changes.

TPIM Cooling System Pressure CapThe cap must be fully tightened to prevent loss ofcoolant.

The cap should be inspected and cleaned if there is anyaccumulation of foreign material on the sealing surfaces.

MAINTENANCE SCHEDULEThe oil change indicator system will remind you that it istime to take your vehicle in for scheduled maintenance.

On Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC)equipped vehicle’s “Oil Change Required” will be dis-played in the EVIC and a single chime will sound, indicating that an oil change is necessary.

On non-EVIC equipped vehicle’s “Change Oil” will flashin the instrument cluster odometer and a single chimewill sound, indicating that an oil change is necessary.

Based on engine operation conditions the oil changeindicator message will illuminate, this means that serviceis required for your vehicle. Have your vehicle servicedas soon as possible, within the next 500 miles (805 km).

NOTE:• The oil change indicator message will not monitor the

time since the last oil change. Change your vehicle’s

oil if it has been 6 months since your last oil changeeven if the oil change indicator message is NOTilluminated.

• Change your engine oil more often if you drive yourvehicle off-road for an extended period of time.

• Under no circumstances should oil change intervalsexceed 6,000 miles (10 000 km) or 6 months, whichevercomes first.

Your authorized dealer will reset the oil change indicatormessage after completing the scheduled oil change. If thisscheduled oil change is performed by someone otherthan your authorized dealer the message can be reset byreferring to the steps described in “Oil Change Required— If Equipped” under “System Status (EVIC Displays)”of the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) — IfEquipped” in Section 4 of the Owner’s Manual or under“Odometer/Trip Odometer” in the “Instrument ClusterDescriptions” section of this supplement.

INSTALLATION OF RADIO TRANSMITTINGEQUIPMENTSpecial design considerations are incorporated into thisvehicle’s electronic system to provide immunity to radiofrequency signals. Mobile two-way radios and telephoneequipment must be installed properly by trained person-nel. The following must be observed during installation.

The positive power connection should be made directlyto the battery and fused as close to the battery as possible. The negative power connection should be made to bodysheet metal adjacent to the negative battery connection. This connection should not be fused.

Antennas for two-way radios should be mounted on theroof or the rear area of the vehicle. Care should be usedin mounting antennas with magnet bases. Magnets mayaffect the accuracy or operation of the compass onvehicles so equipped.

The antenna cable should be as short as practical androuted away from the vehicle wiring when possible. Useonly fully shielded coaxial cable.

Carefully match the antenna and cable to the radio toensure a low Standing Wave Ratio (SWR).

Mobile radio equipment with output power greater thannormal may require special precautions.

All installations should be checked for possible interfer-ence between the communications equipment and thevehicle’s electronic systems.
