COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER ‘Our Buildings’ Launch Night with Bampton Slide Show Friday 28 th September at Riverside Hall FREE event with refreshments from 6pm All welcome! This summer we’re starting on a new project to find out more about our local buildings. From the oldest properties like Castle Grove and the Old Vicarage to the wealthy wool-merchants' Georgian town houses in Luke Street and Castle Street, to the 19th century terraces and pre-war Nissen houses in Frog Street, the changes in housing and businesses illustrate the changes in the town over five centuries. We are going to learn more about why and for whom these buildings were built and how local and national political and industrial events changed life here in Bampton. please turn over........ Serving the town During April, we reached the 10,000 visitors milestone! As a community organisation run solely by volunteers, we’re delighted to be able to greet visitors with a warm Bampton welcome; we promote the town, its history, its shops and services and add a little personal attention to their experience here. If you love Bampton, can spare a couple of hours a month and might like to volunteer with like-minded people, then just enquire at the centre or give Judi Thomas a call on 01398 332020 (evenings) to find out more.

Serving the town During April, we reached the 10,000 visitors milestone! As a community organisation run solely by volunteers, we’re delighted to be able to greet visitors with a warm Bampton welcome; we promote the town, its history, its shops and services and add a little personal attention to their experience here. So many of our town’s buildings have changed use and we want to record this and preserve your memories for future generations. In addition to the properties chosen for our research based on criteria of age, architectural, industrial, commercial or social interest within the main town area, we hope that residents might want to join us and carry out research into their own homes. We’ll be offering training and support to help you do this.

We invite you to join us for our project launch night on Friday 28th September in the Riverside Hall when we’ll be hoping to spark interest and jog memories of Bampton's homes, shops and businesses. Well known Bampton residents Brian Seward and Bruce Benton will be presenting a slide show of old Bampton photographs. The photos of street scenes, buildings and people, many of which come from the Reg Kingdom collection, date from the late 1800's to the 1960's. The doors and refreshments bar will open at 6pm. During this open session, our volunteers would love to have a chat with you and see or hear about what photos or objects you have which might relate to our town’s buildings. The slide show will start at 7pm after an introduction to the new project. Call LIiz on 07966 260058 if you would like to arrange a lift to or from the hall. If you have a story to share, or perhaps an old photo, document or object that might interest us, please do try and come along. If you can’t make it then please drop into the centre and talk to one of our volunteers or phone Katrina on 07967 277738 (evenings).

We’re delighted to have secured £3,600 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to help pay for the ‘Our Buildings’ project, which will culminate with a parish wide exhibition in Spring next year.
