WHAT WE DO

The genesis of the organization has been a defining moment in our journey. Jyothy

Laboratories Limited has ensured that the founding principles remain as relevant as they did a

quarter of a century ago.

In keeping with the tenet of offering a solution rather than a mere product, Jyothy

Laboratories Limited has consciously ventured into product categories that provide simple

but tangible benefits to consumers through a portfolio of value for money brands.

Starting from the momentous launch of Ujala – carving out a new product category of liquid

fabric whitener - Jyothy Laboratories Limited today manufactures and distributes brands

across product categories as diverse as Fabric Care, Household Insecticide, Utensil Cleaners,

Fragrances, Personal Care, besides marketing tea and coffee brands.

At Jyothy Laboratories Limited, we act on key insights from consumers, market research and

sustained in-house analytical processes. Combined with continuous research & development,

these insights help us in offering innovative products while ensuring enhanced value from

existing brands.

In addition to our own brands, Jyothy Laboratories Limited has ventured into the business of

coffee, tea and spiritual / astrological dhoops . The company has also inked a MoU to

establish a joint venture in Bangladesh to manufacture and market Ujala and Maxo.

Incisive insights into consumer preferences, market dynamics and distribution, winning

Page 10: 2007-2009...encouragement and motivation. I take this opportunity to thank Mr Russel Peter Director K S M, for giving this opportunity and experiencing the work environment by the

marketing strategies and focused product positioning, combined with sustained R & D have

ensured expansion of the product portfolio and consistent growth.

The fact that each brand from the Jyothy portfolio makes a positive difference to the lives of

millions is our greatest inspiration – egging us to do more.

also understand whether the traders are happy with the schemes and the overall service

offered to them by the company as traders can create wonders in selling the product and can

help the company in understanding the exact position of the product in the market.

Trader satisfaction

Significance of Traders

In today’s economy most producers do not sell their goods directly to final users. Between

them and final users stand a host of marketing intermediaries performing a variety of

functions.

Traders are marketing intermediaries who buy, take title to and sell to the ultimate

consumers. Traders over come the time, place and possession gap that separate goods and

services from those who would use them.

Decision regarding the traders is the most critical decision facing the management. These

decisions intimately affect all other marketing decision.

Traders are the pivots in the marketing effort. A dealer is a force to reckon with. A trader

significantly influences the decision making process of local customers. A trader is also well

Page 30: 2007-2009...encouragement and motivation. I take this opportunity to thank Mr Russel Peter Director K S M, for giving this opportunity and experiencing the work environment by the

www.techshristi.com

aware of the customer needs and wants. Thus the marketing success or failure in many

businesses is made at the trader level.

The trader can build a great deal of goodwill for the firm, carry its message to all pockets

and win over new customers. He can also be a source of strength to the firm in all its efforts

at sales promotion and publicity.

A progressive firm would assign to the trader a pivot role in market penetration, development

and sales promotion if it always remembers that its marketing strength depends on the

strength of the traders.

Significance of knowing the Traders Attitude

The Traders attitude is studied for the following reasons.

1. To know whether the Traders are satisfied with the products they deal.

2. To motivate the Traders.

3. Traders provide vital information regarding customers needs and wants and also

about the competitors.

4. Traders could easily forecast trends or changes in the market and inform the

company.

5. To make necessary modifications in product appearance and packing.

6. To understand how the traders perceive about their relationship with the company

7. Necessary modifications or changes could be made is sales promotion activities as

per traders’s suggestion

NEED FOR THE STUDY

In today’s competitive market Traders plays a vital role, which decides the

existence of the company. Traders are the only persons who have direct contact with the

customers. They can increase the goodwill of the company, they can create demand for the

product and they can even increase the sales all the factors depend upon the level of

satisfaction. So better understanding of Traders is necessary. The present study was

undertaken for giving valuable input for that.

INTRODUCTION TO CHEMICAL INDUSTRY

Chemicals are essential components of manufacturing, vital to industries such as

construction, automobile, paper, electronic, transportation, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals.

Although some Chemicals manufacturers produce and sell consumer product such as soap,

bleach, and cosmetics, most chemical products are used as intermediate products for other

goods.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Manufacturing chemicals usually is a continuous process; this means that, once a

process has begun, it cannot be stopped when it is time for workers to go home. Split,

weekend, and night shifts are common, and workers on such schedules usually are

compensated with higher rates of pay. As a result, the average workweek in the chemical

industries was 42.1 hour in 2002, 2.0 hours longer than the average for non-durable

manufacturing industries, and 8.4 hour longer than the average for all private industries. The

industry employs relatively few part-time workers.

Page 32: 2007-2009...encouragement and motivation. I take this opportunity to thank Mr Russel Peter Director K S M, for giving this opportunity and experiencing the work environment by the

www.techshristi.com

Most jobs in chemicals manufacturing, except drugs, are in large establishments. The

largest 20 percent of establishments that employed 50 or more workers in 2002 had over 80

percent of the industry’s jobs. The plants usually are clean, although the continually running

machines sometimes are loud and the interior of many plants can be hot. Hardhats and safety

goggles are mandatory and throughout the plant. Hazard in the chemicals industry can be

substantial, but they are generally avoided through strict safety procedures. Workers require

protective gear and extensive knowledge of the dangers associated with the chemicals being

handled. Body suits with breathing devices designed to filter our any harmful fumes are

mandatory for work in dangerous environments.

In spite of the hazards of working with chemicals, extensive worker training on

handling hazardous chemicals and safety measures have resulted in injury and illness rates

for some segments of the chemical industry that are much lower than the average for the

manufacturing sector. The chemicals industry (including pharmaceuticals) reports just 3.3

cases of work-related injury or illness per 100 workers, compared with an average of 7.2

cases for all manufacturing industries in 2004.

Finding

Majority of shops visited had more than six year association with jyothy labs and

they are active sellers of the products of the company.

The survey was conducted among the shops situated in sub urban as well as rural

areas, as a result, shops in suburban areas was satisfied with the visit of company

executives but rural area shopkeepers says the executives were not coming to the

shops meanwhile they are getting the products from whole sale shops in the town.

From the survey it was found out that the sales of the product have increased and

the retailers are very much satisfied to deal with Exo.

Majority of the respondents are satisfied with the profit margin of Exo but they feel

that the schemes that the company offers are not up to the mark.

The retailers have very less complaints regarding the quality and other features of

the products and they insist that the advertisements are very helpful in boosting the

sales of the product.

Comparing to other dish wash bar the sales was high last year and the major threat is

the competition from vim.

Suggestions

The company should come out with attractive schemes for small traders who are not

able to purchase the product in bulk or in dozen.

Page 49: 2007-2009...encouragement and motivation. I take this opportunity to thank Mr Russel Peter Director K S M, for giving this opportunity and experiencing the work environment by the

www.techshristi.com

Some traders would like the company to increase the quantity of sachet. They say

that the quantity is very less and the customers are not buying it.

The company should also introduce attractive offers for every trader as they can

increase the goodwill of the company, they can create demand for the product and

they can even increase the sales.

Limitations

The study consists of certain limitations, which are as follows..

1. The study is limited to just 100 shops

2. The study is limited to particular areas like chalakudy , koratty etc.

3. The traders were sometimes reluctant to co-operate in the survey.

4. The survey was too time consuming as I had to wait in each shop for at least 10-15

minutes to get a response from them.

5. Only afternoon sessions could be utilized effectively for survey because it was the

only time the traders could stretch their back.

6. As a result sometimes the goal set for the day, for example “10 shops in a day” could

not be achieved.

7. The unavailability of shop owners was also a problem to some extend

as the staff present in the shop were reluctant to reveal information in the absence of

their boss.

Page 50: 2007-2009...encouragement and motivation. I take this opportunity to thank Mr Russel Peter Director K S M, for giving this opportunity and experiencing the work environment by the

Conclusion

The study was conducted to depict the level of trader’s satisfaction in selling the product Exo

dish wash bar. The study was conducted in 100 shops and the study reveals that the

satisfaction level of 86 traders with the overall level of service is 100% .

The remaining 14 traders were of the opinion that the schemes are available only when they

purchase in bulk or in dozen and which they are not capable of. They came out with a

suggestion of introducing some attractive schemes for such small traders.

Thus it was found that a majority of traders are happy and satisfied with the schemes offered

to them by the company. This study will certainly help the company to understand the small

traders and introduce attractive schemes which will help the company to attain 100% trader

satisfaction.
