Dear Director,
ChildrenareimportanttoGodandyouhavetheprivilegeofhelpingchildrenlearnmoreaboutGodanddevelopapersonalrelationshipwithHim.
Inthiscoursewewilluseavarietyofmethodstoaccomplishthisincludingmusic,Biblememorization,storytime,gamesandcrafts.
Thefollowingsuggestionsshouldhelpyouhaveasuccessfulyear.Pleasereadthroughthemprayerfullyandcarefully.Itisnotnecessarytofolloweverydetail.Usethesuggestionsandthedailylessonsasaspringboardforyourownideas.
MayGodrichlyblessyouandgiveyougoodsuccess.
Areas of Responsibility: Althoughonepersonmayberesponsibleforallormanyoftheseareas,itismuch
easierfortheresponsibilitiestobesharedamongseveralpeople.Thedivisionofrespon-sibilitiesshouldbedeterminedbytheabilityandavailabilityofthevolunteers.Responsi-bilitiesmaybeassignedfortheentireyearorrotatedonaweeklyorquarterlybasis.
Havingadultspresentintheclassroomhelpsyoungchildrenstayfocusedandincontrolofthemselves.Theidealsituationistohaveatleast�adultorresponsibleteen-agerforevery5children.

2.Decorationsmaybeassimpleoraselaborateasyourbudgetallows.PicturesofBiblecharactersorChristianemblemsmaybepurchasedatmostChristianBookstores.Youmayalsochoosetodecoratebulletinboardswithseasonalcolorsandpictures.Keepthemesbright,cheerfulandhappy.Avoidwitches,monsters,etc.duringthefallseasons;insteadyoucanfocusonThanksgivingandallGodhasgivenus.
3.Asturdytableandchairswillbeneededforcrafttimeandcanbeusedforsnacktime.Keepcraftsuppliesandsnacksoutofreachandpreferablyoutofsightuntiltheiras-signedtime.
4.Gametimemaybeconductedoutsideiftheweatherpermits.Ifgamesmustbeplayedinsideclearaslargeanareaaspossible.Tableandchairscanbereplacedwhengametimeiscompleted.
• Teacherisresponsibleforteachingthelesson.Oneteachermaybeassignedfortheentireyearorrotatedonaweekly,monthlyorquarterlybasis.�. Inpreparationforthelesson,readthroughthescripturepassagethoughtfullyandprayerfully,askingGodtohelpyouunderstandandapplythescripturetoyourownlifeandtoprovideaclearwaytoexplaintheconceptstothechildren.
2.UseyourBiblewhenteachingthelesson.HoldyourBibleinyourhandandbegineachlessonremindingthechildrenthatwhatyouareteachingthemisfromGod’sWord,theBible.
3.Familiarizeyourselfwith thestory.Ifpossible, tell thestoryrather thanreadingthestory.Ifitisnecessarytoreadthestory,putyourpageinyourBiblesotheywillseeyoureadingfromyourBible.
4.MakeplentyofeyecontactwiththechildrenandbeenthusiasticaboutwhattheWordofGodsays.ThechildrenwillcatchyourexcitementforGod’sWord.

• Song Leaderisresponsibleforleadingthechildreninsinging.SuggestedsongsarefromthereproducibleCD,“Sing-AlongSongsforYoungChildren”whichmaybepurchasedfrom Joy of Living.TheCDisdividedintotwocategories:Biblesongstobeusedduring“SongTime”andactivitysongswhichcanbeusedduring“GameTime.”Forthosewhoareunsureoftheirmusicalability,manyofthetunesin“Sing-AlongSongsforYoungChildren”arefamiliarfolksongs.Otherappropriatesongsmaybesubstituted.
Itisimportanttoknowthesongsbeforetryingtosingthemwiththechildren.Anddon’tforget to usemotions to accompany the songs. If none are indicated–make themup!Motionswillhelpthechildrenlearnthesongsmorequicklyandaddfuntosingingtime.Don’tbeafraidtobe“silly”andexaggeratethemotions,itwillhelpthechildrenloosenupanddothemotions.Smilealot!
Musicisawonderfulteachingtool.Selectsongstoreinforcethetruthsbeingtaughtinthelesson.Youngchildrenenjoyrepetitionandwhatisfamiliar.Usethesamesongsforseveralweeksandgraduallyintroducenewones.
Musiccanserveasaneffectivetoolinclassroommanagement.Certainsongsmaybeusedconsistentlytosignaltransitionsfromoneactivitytoanother.“WhenWeAllWorkTogether”or“NowIt’sTime”wouldattractthechildren’sattentionandsignalthatit’stimetoputawaythetoys.Itisgoodtoendthesingingtimewithaquietsong(e.g.“Oh,HowIloveJesus”).Thiswillpreparethechildrentositquietlyandlistentothestory.
• Bible Memorization Leaderteachesthememoryverse.BiblememorizationisVERYimportant.ThescripturetellsustohideHisWordinourheartsthatwemightnotsinagainstHim.Thescripturesyouhelpthesechildrenmemorizewillbethere,readyfortheHolySpirittomakealiveintheheartsofthesechildrenthroughouttheirlives. TherearemanycreativewaystoteachaBibleverse.Listedbelowareafewsugges-tions:
• Puttheversetomusic....everyonetendstorememberthewordstoasong. • Saytheversealoud.Makecertaintosaythe“address”(e.g.John3:�6)beforeyou saytheverseandthenafterit.Thenaskthechildrentorepeatafteryou,sayingthe verseinphrases.
• Assigneachchildaphraseorwordoftheverse.Tellthemthatwhenyoupointto themtheyaretostandupandsaytheirportionoftheverse.
Youmaydecidetokeepachartofwholearnsthememoryverses.Youmaychoosetogiveasimplereward(i.e.sticker,pencil,balloon)toeachchildastheysuccessfullylearneachverse.Wewilltakeseveralweekstomemorizeeachverse.
