What is Dying?

A ship sails and I stand watching till she fades on the horizon

and someone at my side says, ‘she is gone’.

Gone where? Gone from my sight, that is all; she is just as

large as when I saw her. The diminished size, and total loss of sight is in me, not in her,

and just at the moment when someone at my side says, ‘she is gone’.

There are others who are watching her coming, and other voices take up a glad

shout, “Here she comes!” and this is dying. (Bishop Brent)

La nave parte ed io rimango li a guardarla e piano piano si allontana verso l’orrizzonte

e qualcuno accanto a me disse “È andata via dov’è andata?”

Io risposi “È solo sparita dalla mia visione, ecco tutto. È ancora grande come quando la vedevo.

Prayer of Commendation ~ Father Mike

Father, into your hands, we commend Angela. We are confident that with all who have died in Christ, she will be raised to life on the last day and live with Christ forever. We thank you for the blessings you have given her in this life to show your Fatherly care for all of us and the fellowship which is ours with all the saints in Jesus Christ. Lord, hear our prayer; welcome Angela to paradise and help us to comfort one another with the assurance of our faith until we all meet in Christ to be with you and with Angela forever. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

He accepted them as a holocaust. The souls of the virtuous are in the hands of God, no torment shall ever touch them. Prayers of Final Farewell and Commendation Invitation to Prayer ~ Father Mike

With faith in Jesus Christ, we reverently bring the body of Angela to be buried in its human imperfection. Let us pray with confidence to God, who gives life to all things, that he will raise up this mortal body to the perfection and the company of the saints. May God give her a merciful judgement and forgive her sins. May Christ the Good Shepherd, lead her safely home to be at peace with God our Father, and may she be happy forever with all the saints.

What is seen is transitory; what is unseen is eternal. We know that he who raised the Lord Jesus to life will raise us with Jesus in our turn, and put us by his side and you with us. You see, all this is for your benefit, so that the more grace is multiplied among people, the more thanksgiving there will be, to the glory of God. That is why there is no weakening on our part, and instead, though this outer man of ours may be falling into decay, the inner man is renewed day by day. My dear friends, we thank God for the gift of Angela’s life and for the dedication and love she has shown to all whose lives she has touched. We turn to our loving God and place our needs before him.
