2.1 Introduction

ABB recommends mounting the TEC unit and sensors on the trans-former before the heat run test and topowertheunitduringthetest.The TEC may also be powered duringtheothertests.

The TEC system should be updat-ed with information from the heat run test to create a more accurate fingerprintofthetransformer.

Checkthatthepackageisfreefromtransportdamage.Openthetransportboxcover.Re-movethewoodblocksupport.TheTECunitispackedinESDplastic.Theunitisprotectedbyitsenclosure,sotheplasticcanberemovedandtheunithandledasanormalelectronicsensor.

Theenclosedaccessoriesarepackagedinaseparatecompartmentinthetransportbox.

CAUTIONDo not remove any boards from the TEC unit.

2.2.2 Inspection on receipt

1. CheckthattheTECunitandaccessoriesareundamaged.

2. Iftransportdamageisfound,adamagereportshouldbesenttotheinsurancecom-pany.Itisalsorecommendedthatphotographsbetakenofthedamagedcomponents.MarkthephotoswithABB’sreferencenumberandtheserialnumberoftheTECunitandsendthemtoABBforcomments.

3. Checkthatthepartsdeliveredandserialnumbersagreewiththepackinglistandorderacknowledgement.

IftheTECunitisnottobemountedimmediately,oncethedeliveryhasbeenapprovedtheunitandaccessoriesshouldbekeptindoorsandleftintheirplasticenclosures.

2.3 Installation on transformer

TheTECsystemcanbepoweredwithoutallsensorsconnected.Ifso,orifasensorisnotconnectedcorrectly,theTECwillgenerateevents.SeeUser’s Manualformoreinformation.Theeventlogcanaidtroubleshooting.

2.3.1 Mounting

TheTECBasicunitismountedonamountingbar.TheTECunitshouldbemountedupright.Checkthattheabsorbersarecorrectlylinedupandproperlytorquedaftermounting.

2.3.2 Connection to terminals

TheSpecificationSheetisplacedontheinsideoftheTECcabinetdoor.

2.5 Data communication setup

TherearetwowaystoconnecttotheTECwebinterface.WitheitherthelocalinterfacecableorEthernetviafiber-opticsandaconverter(TC190).SeeCommunicationchapterformoreinformation.

2.5.1 Hardware for remote data communication

Forremotedatacommunication,includingwithinthestationbuilding,afiber-opticconnec-tionshouldbeused.

Thefiber-opticcableshouldbeconnectedtotheTC190converter.TheTC190convertershouldbeplacedindoorsandrequiresaseparate24VDCpowersupply.

TheRXandTXfiber-opticcableconnectionsmustbeconnectedcorrectly.

Toverifytheconnection:

1. IftheActlightisblinkingtheconnectioniscorrect.

2. PowertheTEC.

3. Connectacrossednetworkcabletoacomputer.

4. ConnecttheotherendofthenetworkcabletotheTC190converter.

Thisshouldresultinthesmall“linklight”glowingandtheupper“Actlight”blink-ingonce.

Ifthe“Actlight”doesnotblink,switchtheRXandTXfiber-opticcables.Thenrepeatstep4.

Ifthelinklightdoesnotlightup,thereisa problem with the network connection betweentheTC190andthePC.

2.5.2 Configuration

Seesection3Communicationforcomputerconfiguration.

2.6 Time synchronization installation

ThetimeintheTECunitshouldbesetatinstallation,seetheMaintenance guide.Ifspeci-fied,itispossibletoconnectrun-timesynchronizationfunctions.

2.6.1 NTP

SettheNTPserverIPaddressfromthewebinterface,seetheMaintenance guide.

IftheTECunitistobeconnectedtoaTECServer,usetheTECServerIPaddressasNTPserverintheTECunit.Itisrecommended,butnotrequired,toconfiguretheTECServertosynchronizewitharealNTPserver.

2.6.2 Synchronization pulse

ConnecttheBNCcontacttotheTC190converter.Checkthatthesyncdiodeblinksatthecorrespondingsynchronizationfrequency.

3.1 Local web through RS232 cable

3.1.1 Overview

TosetupthenetworkforTEC,anRS232portandaTECspecialRS232cableisneeded.ThecableissuppliedwiththeTEC.

MostnewlaptopsdonothaveanRS232port.SometimesthedockingstationhasanRS232portthatcanbeusedinstead.Inordertomakethemwork,thepowersupplyofthelaptopneedstobeconnectedtothedockingstation.

IfthereisnoRS232port,aUSB-to-RS232adaptercanbeusedinstead(therearemanydifferenttypesandtheirfunctionmayvary).BesuretohavetheUSBdeviceinstalledbeforecontinuingthisguide.

HowtocreateastandardmodemandSLIPconnectionforlocalwebbrowsingontheTECthroughanRS232cableonWindowsXP.

3.1.2 Create standard modem
