THREE TIMES A YEAR you shall hold a festival for Me: You shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread- eating unleavened bread for seven days as I have commanded you - at the end of the month of Aviv, for in it you went forth from Egypt; and none shall appear before Me empty handed; and the Feast of the Harvest, of the first fruit of your work, of what you sow in the field; and the Feast of lngathering at the end of the year, when you gather the results of your work from the field.

ONE DOES NOT travel to Jerusalem, one returns, one ascends the road taken by generations, the path of longing on the way to redemption.

One brings rucksacks stuffed with memories to each mountain and each hill. In the cobbled white alleyways one offers a blessing for memories of the past which have been renewed.

MANY GENERATIONS LATER, redeemed from slavery, Abraham and Sarah's descendants stood at Mount Sinai. The ancient promise was to be confirmed, the ancient mandate reasserted and enlarged, the ancient covenant renewed and sealed to bind all future generations.

Festival TJilah

MOWTHIS, that each and every shepherd has a unique melody of his own. Know this, that every blade of grass has a unique song of its own. And from the song of the grass comes the melody of the shepherd.

How beautiful, how beautiful and pleasant it is when one hears their song: it is very good to pray among them, and in joy to serve the Ineffable. And from the song of the grass the heart becomes filled with longing.

And when the heart is filled with song and with longing for Eretz Yisrael, a great light goes forth from the holiness of the land upon it. And from the song of the grass comes the melody of the heart.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He* maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
