DISEO La pgina est dividida en 2 tablas de 2 columnas cada una de igual ancho y 14 filas cada una. • ACTIVITY: Contractions dominoes Groupwork: speaking TIME: 30 min AIM: To practise the contracted and complete forms of verb to be by playing a dominoes game LANGUAGE: Function 1.1 Introducing oneself and other people and 1.2 Asking for and giving personal details Grammar: Present simple tense of verb to be

PROCEDURE Before class: Make one copy of the worksheet for each group of four students. Cut them up into dominoes as indicated. In class: 1. Write on the board Youre not in third grade and ask the students if that sentence is correct for them. Now, erase You so that only re not in third grade appears on the board and ask students if there is another pronoun that can grammatically fit whats written on the bard to make a correct sentence. They should mention we and they. 2. Elicit the rules to play dominoes. Tell them this time they are going to play in pairs and each pair will draw 6 dominoes. 3. If students make mistakes, for example: *Ire not in third grade, write the sentences anyway. Ask other students if those sentences are correct. Encourage them to give you the grammar that supports their opinions. 4. Get students into pairs and ask them to sit opposite another pair (they may do so on the floor). Explain to students they are going to play dominoes by matching pronouns with the correspondent contracted or complete form of verb to be. As in regular dominoes, the winner will be the first one to finish up all dominoes. 5. Monitor the groups and be ready to clarify any doubts students may have.

REFLECTION ON LANGUAGE: Students notice the use of the apostrophe to indicate contraction (e.g. I am Martha Im Martha, etc.) and use such language features appropriately.

POSSIBLE FOLLOW UP: You can ask students to leave their dominoes on the table/floor once they finish the game and use some of the matching parts to write sentences giving personal details about the 4 people in the team. For example: Im Daniel; He is Tony, Theyre in the volley ball team, etc,

IDEAS FOR EVALUATION: Give students the following table with some spaces for them to complete. Check answers on the board eliciting answers form students.

Affirmative Negative I am Im I am not Im not --------- You are Youre You are not Youre not Your arent He is Hes He is not Hes not He isnt She is Shes She is not Shes not She isnt It is Its It is not Its not It isnt We are Were We are not Were not We arent You are Youre You are not Youre not Your arent They are Theyre They are not Theyre not They arent

OPTION: If you have a multiple of 3 class size, for example, 42 students, you can divide them into groups of three and have the dominoes left as stock.
